The stone restoration is looking so marvelous. I know, it felt really overwhelming when we were renovating our old home (we nick-named ours "The Money Pit", from a 1986 Tom Hanks Comedy film) 😂It takes time, hard work, and money, but it's so worth it. 'One stone at time' and you'll get there. Merry Christmas my lovelies xx Teresa❤🇦🇺

Merry Christmas to you and a blessed New Year too. I loved seeing the candle burning on the tree. I have a few candle holders on my tree that were my grandparents. My mom was born in 1925 and remembered how each Christmas Eve, my grandpa would light all the candles on the tree while my grandma would be beside the tree with a milk pail filled with water in case the tree caught fire. As soon as the candles were all lit, they were all blown out.

Wow, I have the remaining 5 Christmas tree candle holders from my Mom's family. She was born in 1926, and I'm pretty sure they were her grandparents.'.. Each year, I light them, turn out the electric tree lights, and for a minute or two delight in just a bit of what my ancestors experienced. It's really magical, isn't it? Imagine a whole tree lit that way...

P.S. if I worked for the BBC, I'd be recommending Katie for 'pause for thought' on radio 4! The occasional more spiritual segments are perfectly weighted and so often rooted in history and prehistory too, which seems to make them especially relevant.

I think the round "hole" in the big stone above the lintel may have been made to hold a spit for roasting meat, or some kind of apparatus for cooking. The clean stones are completely gorgeous! When you see sparks coming from your wire wheel that’s telling you it’s steel and not brass. A lot of places are selling brass plated steel wheels as brass. When In doubt use a magnet,it will not attract copper, brass, aluminum, gold, silver etc. I never travel without a magnet. Keep up the good work. Pam & Jim 🎄

The care you show in the midst of your overwhelm for your restoration process is admirable. I'm afraid such a daunting task might outstrip my skills with anger management let alone my knowledge. While I love trying figure out what forces worked to make and shape the rock, being one of those forces isn't high on my wish list. It looks AMAZING now! I can totally tell the difference between what you've done and what's left. Since I live in an urban area, I admit that my reaction to someone leaving a pick like that in my mailbox would probably be quite different from yours - it's all relative. I find this to be a self-relective time of the year so I appreciate Scott's reflections on the learning curve. I would say that I believe it's in the nature of home repair and improvement of any kind to run out of things, miss deadlines, and readjust expectations. Anyway, thanks so much for sharing your Christmas Eve with us, however non-traditional it may be, and I truly appreciate the window into your world. Merry Christmas!

Cut the two squirt gun guides on the sides and lengthen it by putting a strip in between. Make some holes in the guides of the gun, and use some screws. If you have no metal strips to use for lengthening, you could use tin cans, maybe fold them for strength. Or... shorten the tubes a bit and make a mess... Don't know if you have an angle grinder, but there are knotted brush wheels for that too. Those are way more industrial/professional like and don't wear so easily.

The best way to fill those gaps would be to glue shaved wood slivers into the gaps. Plane, sand and or chisel any high spots. I’ve done this for ceilings, floors and walls. Time consuming but will be much more durable than caulk.

Was wondering if you guys are going to use old traditional types of paint, like linseedoil based?
Personally like the qualities of that paint, biggest downside is the longer drying time, but its not exessive.

caustic soda and wallpaper paste makes a very dangerous but cheap paintstripper, newspaper or clingfilm over it helps it dwell overnight

Have you considered merchandising on your channel. You have produced some wonderful photographs that could be reproduced as calendars and notebooks, mugs and key rings. You could start a collectibles section. It was just a thought that it might generate some revenue for future projects. Love and best wishes to you both this Christmas and New Year.

If you want to clean the outside of the building you can do dustless sandblasting with a pressure washer and a sandblasting attachment. The attachment doesn’t cost all that much.
