- We bought our house in 2018 and wanted to update our bathroom covered in unicorn wallpaper. We made some updates totaling to roughly $1,000. I also share a five-year review of how things are holding up today in 2024. Today we also organize the bathroom with new Homegoods pieces and some pieces I’ve thrifted over the years. If you like thrifted art, Waterford crystal, and seeing a room transform then I think you might enjoy this video. Thank you for watching!

About Melba Makes
This channel focuses on a buy “used” first approach to all things that go into making a home. Buying used as a lifestyle has allowed me to get a better value, save, and reduce waste. I create a variety of videos from interior design to following our home renovation journey. Come along for some fun thrifting for treasures, restoring pieces, decorating, and room makeovers. Also join us as we renovate our mid century California ranch house.
The bathroom looks good. Can’t believe you found the vanity for $100, what a score. Have a great week!
Thank you Roberta! We could not believe it and neither could the person helping us check out! Hope you also have a great week ahead 🤗
Melba you have an amazing knack for finding the perfect thrifted items! And apparently, so does your husband! Really, your house, inside and out is stunning! And I really love that everything doesn’t have to be perfect, you don’t mind cleaning or fixing an item if it has already been well loved. You have a real gift for making a lovely home!
Thank you for the kind words Evan ❤️😊 husband also enjoys a good bargain! 😂 it’s good to hear from you today, have a great week! 🤗
The shelves by the toilet were for magazines!
Thanks for letting me know! I just did a quick search and I see the other little cubby on the top right was likely for a spare toilet paper 🧻
Good call on the leaded containers! No amount of beauty is worth that risk. You’re so creative and energetic! Your renewal is lovely and fresh looking!
You even got your husband into finding deals. LOL! We all must learn everything needs upkeep. Our bodies, minds, cars, homes and furniture.
Love that you shared this type of transformation until it’s time for your full reno. It’s so relatable, not everything can/should be a full renovation. Things take time : ) Amazing job!
Thank you Kimberly! ❤️🏠🛠️
The “shelf” by the toilet paper holder is a magazine holder. Back in the day, men would “do their reading” in the bathroom. 😂
😂 thank you for sharing!
I agree on the amber bottles. Makes a nice trio with the mirror frame and the vanity wood.
I really love your style and how you look for bargains. You really show how to get beautiful things at a low cost. The bathroom is lovely. ❤
Thank you Kerrie-Anne, I'm happy that you enjoy the channel (and the bargains!). Thank you for being a part of the community! Hope you have a great week 🤗💕
Thank you enjoy your week as well 😊
Every other Sunday I say “what is Melba Making this week!?!” Another great video!! 😃
I appreciate that you look forward to the videos! Thank you so much for being here 🤗💕
I love your channel!
It's always a pleasure to hear from you Lillian, I'm glad you enjoy the channel! Thank you for watching and I hope you like the art piece I hung (I thrifted it a while back, I can't tell if it's a print or painted, if you have any tips for identifying the mediums please do share). I hope you are currently enjoying working on one of your art pieces!
Beautiful
If you aren’t confident corking just tape either side & then the excess is taking off by the tape. Great work! 😊
Thank you for the tip! 🙏😊
Magazines were in the shelf. I think they were reading as they were going.
You make everything look so beautiful. I love Waterford and thought I'd prefer the glass dispensers; however, I agree that the amber looked better. I love a good deal, too. Your vanity is perfect. It'll be interesting to see the plans for the remodel. We're living in a small apartment in Houston while my husband's undergoing treatment. It's a challenge having one bathroom, lol. It took a few days to organize everything, but I'm enjoying the small space. Take care, Linda 🦋
Hi Linda, I hope your hubby is okay and that the treatment is going well ❤️ I’m glad you like the Amber dispensers and the vanity deal too! 🤗 I’m sure you are making your housing in Houston cozy while you are there, I hope you and your husband have a good week ahead 💕 always great to hear from you 😊
Excellent job! 😊❤🙋🏻♀️👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you Susan ❤️ It’s getting sunnier here, I hope you are getting some more sunshine up near you too! ☀️ 😊
@@MelbaMakes oh Melba it has been beautiful …..the snow is melting slowly I’m excited it’s been too long of a winter
So glad it’s getting warmer for you too, I’m also ready for spring! 😊
Wouldn’t your home owners insurance pay for the leak!? My nephews insurance did. Your husband got just a deal on the vanity!! Everything looks great! (I like the amber colored glass soap dispensers)
Thank you Susan! Unfortunately we weren’t able to use our homeowners insurance for the leak but I’m glad your nephew was able to! I still get excited when I think about the vanity deal and I’m glad you also like the amber colored soap dispensers 🧼 I hope you have a great week Susan! 🤗
When I did some work in my bathroom, my mother insisted I get a "high-line" toilet--meaning the tall one. I told her I didn't care about that, but she said everyone prefers them as they age. People seem to like it, and I now notice when a bathroom has a taller toilet.
We felt the same and it wasn’t something we were even aware of but now I would always choose the taller one if given the option 😂
@@MelbaMakes It was the same for me. I had never even considered a difference. Glad mothers are pretty smart!
I find your style pleasing and started following you after you did a make over of an apartment with just finds you found in FB marketplace. Im looking for six-burner stove, a Model 182 Garland Commercial Range.
It's always great to hear from you Phil! I wish you luck in finding a deal on the six-burner stove you are looking for (please keep us posted!). I took a quick look online for the model, it looks like a heavy-duty range 💪🏽🙌🏽
@@MelbaMakes Thank you for the kind words. Just a follow-up on my message to you. So that 1959 vintage stove was the same one that Julia Childs had in her home kitchen which she paid $400. Its in the Smithsonian in Washington DC. However, I bought a Viking Professional range about 28 years ago and who ever comes to our home it always a talking point. My Philosophy is I can't afford to live in Beverly Hills but I can my home look like it.
Thanks for sharing that history, so fun! Your Viking sounds like a special stove (so cool to have a professional range at home!) 🤩
i'm pretty sure that shelf thing was for magazines 😂🤣 yes magazines
😅😂
