Asteroid impact in 4 months?! Worse than Apophis, NASA is powerless to stop these threats!

  • This year, NASA detected two dangerous asteroids that made close approaches to our planet. Had their trajectories been a little different, the consequences would have been disastrous.
And later this year, an asteroid larger than the infamous Apophis may make impact.
And NASA is unprepared to stop it.

Even an angry astronaut should know, to DEFLECT an asteroid requires not only knowing it's precise trajectory, but knowing it at least a decade beforehand.
Even a small one cannot be changed only months in advance.

@@tortysoft It isn't the engineering or production schedule that's important. It is simple physics.
It doesn't matter who is on the problem.
It depends on the size/mass of the object and it's composition.
Big enough, ( and 99.999% of those currently tracked are big enough) and the size of the object we launch just won't have enough effect. Objects small enough to deflect or destroy are usually melted in our atmosphere anyway.
If you are familiar with long range shooting you should have an Idea why.
A sniper a thousand yards from his target must worry about the slightest puff of wind, a tall blade of grass, a fat bumble bee, the smallest irregularities in his ammunition.
The target however, can have the largest Canadian goose fly six feet away take the bullet first and it won't make a damn bit of difference.
Changing a trajectory is a function of distance. Soon enough and a spit-ball does the trick, wait too long and a mountain won't suffice, or a nuke.

I have warned people for years about this. Few people bother to factor in the color or reflectivity of these Asteroids. They very in color and can be very dark or even black. If the reflectivity is low enough or dark, we are unable to even see what is coming until it goes by earth, narrowly missing us or worse hits us. The size and speed are also factors for detection. For those that hit earth, the size, speed, density and composition are all important to consider. A huge, fast, dark one would be the worst case scenario. Frequently they can also come in pairs or families too. Coming from the same mother chunk on the same path. Collisions between two main ones in the asteroid belt can cause this. There is a lot to consider but basically it is just a matter of time before Earth is hit again. It can really happen any day with no warning. These are all the true facts to consider.
