I've been a fan of Down since 1995 when they released NOLA. Today 3/23/2024 is the first time I heard the acoustic version of this song. Just 100% of fucking awesomeness! I have no ideah how I never heard it before!? Better late then never though! 🍺 I raise my glass to metal, to blues and to Down for bringing the two styles together. Such a great band! 🍻 Cheers!
Same here brother. I never will forget the day I heard Down, my older brother just bought the tape cassette at music biz. On our way home as soon as I heard Phil I looked at the cover saying featuring Phil Anselmo. I was 13 my older brother was 36. We were both blown away! 42 and 65 now and still listening to Nola.
I love the changes to the vocal flow he did for this. Man, just when you thought you heard it all by these guys, you stumble upon something that’s been in my face forever. They (mainly Phil) have so many good demos and low key shit they did back in the day, I love it.....these guys are the real deal and I hope they get their asses back to NY soon

@@JdryBLANKENSHIP he's an idiot for saying idc wtf or this and that. I'm a aboriginal Ojibwe of Ontario Canada who's been listening to DOWN-NOLA since the day one I love this band nd will continue buying the album's 4-Life 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
In the book Precious Metal Masterpieces by Albert Mudrian Jimmy Bower says that they recorded the acoustic version in 2002 but he doesn't say for what purpose, whether it was to be a bonus track for II, a b-side or to participate in a compilation, I hope that one day they will release the acoustic version officially because it's excellent.
Dammit, like several other have commented this is the first time ive heard this too. And cant believe i havent before. I love it its perfection. Wish they would do the whole NOLA album.
I'm a Down lifer for sure. Whoever drew that pic I give them mad props I love it. I would legit pay for that poster. If anyone knows where I can get a pic of it I'd be appreciative
S*hit I wrote a whole nice post and it get deleted. Anyway, bro I can do that for you and Jessy . I just charge for the t-shirt and shipping (I'm in Brooklyn so do your homework) if you sent the T cool but you tell me how much it cost the shipping
If I was in the band Down, I would suggest releasing this as a single in September. To celebrate 25 years to the month it was released. I think it would be an awesome way to honor the band. @Philip Housecore
I absolutely love down, they just bring reality to the table and just fuckn jam, Down are legendary and whoever doesn't give them a chance cause it's a secondary Pantera thing, well shame on you. Down is fuckn a blessing to us hard rockers, metal, blues fans, fuckn Down just cool mother fuckers that love music and jam some great fuckn tunes
I've been a fan of this band and all it's members bands and I feel like a fckin ID10T that lives in a cave. Before today I did not know this version of this song existed. The Metal Gods have smiled upon me
Trying so hard to see something ugly where it lacks , proves an issue within yourself . Phil apologized and defended himself . At this point , the issue is YOU not him. Maybe there’s internalized racism you clearly haven’t addressed and the Phil incident is just an easy cop out.

Wish they did more acoustic versions of songs.
Just now discovered this! ...i was in line the day this was released and still gets heavy rotation, 23 years later
This acoustic version is from 2002 when Rex was in the band

Bro so right love your comment
I feel the same i always seem to uncover more even the demos have a magic
Unfortunately, instead of a long awaited Down return, Phil and Rex decided to foist upon us a phony and illegitimate “Pantera reunion”.
Such bullshit
only louisiana can generate this tone...
Cheers
Down is so bluesy and southern....beautiful...
Thank God for blues, and down for metal blues
Amen
I always thought they should do an acoustic album.
I can't for the life of me figure out why they never officially released this song.
I saw the original (but shortened) version on Rage in Australia not long after NOLA came out
@@Fekalmatta
This was actually the 1st top 40 original "hit" of Philips career in *America.*
So yea they made a cool music video
Can't find it on Spotify, then again maybe it's just me
Given the replies are hidden, neither can I. 😅

This song is amazing, both acoustic and electric renditions are excellent.

It was recorded in 2002 during down II sessions.

Badass PANTERA RULES !
Fuckin outstanding!
This is something you should listen to on acid.
Seriously
Good version! I think the rougher singing on the "normal" version would have suited this very very well
so wait... where has this been this whole time???
Is there a full acoustic live show somewhere?
Damn 😍😍😍
Crazy I just realized the lead singer is Phil Anselmo from Pantera
And for Superjoint Ritual, Phil H. Anselmo & the Illegals, also for Scour
@@lstanley8667 you forgot to mention En Minor too.

I'd be willing to bet that Rex played most of the guitar in this version. Pepper and Kirk can't pick like this.
what?
Pepper can play every way
Pepper can play just shout anything
