Thank you, Morten! I visited Norway during my military service. Trondheim and Levanger area. A beautiful country! I'll never forget riding a bus through Hell, which was completely frozen over at the time.
I love Vihtavuori powders I use them almost exclusively these days... yes they're expensive but when paired with a good bullet things just fall into place for me. I've never tried these 2 though but normally a good full case is where you find really good ES/SD numbers... Great video as always keepem coming brother!!!
The fact that these bullets keep grouping speaks volumes about its compatibility with your barrel. I’d imagine you’ll get single digit SD by tweaking the load on a narrower charge weight range, along with the fireformed brass being used. Still loving this series and the target camera. I know it’s extra work but it adds charm.
Those as some seriously impressive results. I'm looking forward to seeing how good it gets once you really get it dialed in. I've seen several of the powders that came to mind already mentioned in other comments, but one I haven't seen that might get you closer to the N130 range could be LT-32 if you still have some.
Just watched this one- great as always. I noticed maybe your front scope ring may be misaligned... but based on your results I'm probably wrong. Keep'm comin
I've always favored H322 for precision loads in the .222, 223 and 6mm PPC. It won't necessarily give the highest velocities, but it generally gives outstanding accuracy in a rifle that's capable of it. My .223 Varmint Special liked 24.5 grains of H322 with the 40 grain Ballistic Tip, which is a half grain under maximum but gave bughole groups and 3525 fps from a 26" barrel. That same rifle would shoot the same bullet at 3700 fps with 27.5 grains of H335, but the groups weren't quite so nice and H335 can be touchy in a hot barrel on a hot day with a max load, which that definitely was.
I like H322 for 69grn SMKs, 23.1grn does the trick from 100 to 500 yards holding subMOA. The N133 also shoots very well in varying temps with a low charge of 21.8grn but not tested over 100 yards yet...
I LOVE N-133 its one hole for 52 Eld match and 50 Vmax in my 20 inch ar-15s and my Savage BT 110 competition target model bolt gun,,,, OH,,,, with CCI 400 primers......N-133 has become my favorite powder for my varmit guns....
Also, you should try some ramshot tac, with a 53 grain vmax. I'm using cci Magnum primers an Lapua brass. Shots incredible in my Savage 110. Consistent 1/4min groups @100 yards.
Hey Johnny, your grandpa liked the collet dies because back then folks thought only neck-sizing was how to get accuracy. Use good dies and proper shoulder bump and you’ll see better everything!
SO STOKED! Once Torts left I started getting bored with hockey. Only watched a few games this past season. This has DEFINITELY pulled me back in. I think I'm going to get a big wall sticker of his face and put it right behind my dies. I could even claim that I am a time traveler and this is why I named my channel JRB. You can't prove that I'm not.
This seems like one of those rifles where half the fun might be seeing how *bad* it can shoot, because that might be more of a challenge than seeing how well it can shoot - it seems to always be shooting good!
i seen in a speer reloading manual . don't remember which one , that cci 41 primers and magnum primers are the same . and can be interchanged . only difference is the thickness of the cup. 41's having a thicker cup than others . both large and small primers are magnum . can't remember what the large milspec primers are . never used any . but as i thought about it it makes since that milspec primers are ' magnum ' . figured i would pass this on the way primers are right now . and i can find srp in magnum more than regular srp ! keep up the good work shannon !
I just loaded em with h335 cause I ran out of benchmark and wow even better groups from my 16” m&p 15..and on the upper end of 3300fps…imr3031 I had good luck with too…
My old 223 shot the 40gr vmax into little bug holes. Shot great out to 100m. But for out further like 2-300m on kangaroos it lacked a bit of punch compared to the 60gr Vmax
I love this rifle! Is that a stock barrel or custom? Your Sd’s are crazy! Way worse than my AR15. My AR15 load was in the 20’s and I thought that was bad. Strikes me as a primer issue.
Hey johnny, if you get a chance, try out some 77gr tmk loads. 26gr of 2000mr works well for me (0.83" @50yds), but id like to see if you can squeeze any more out of it with a nicer barrel. I have a stainless 18" a2 profile barrel from psa. Would like to grab a white oak barrel at some point but the ol psa works for now.
Great shooting there, Mr. Bench. How many times can you neck size them before having to bump back the shoulder? Looking forward to more of this series👍
It just gets progressively harder to close and open the bolt. I've never gone more than 4 or 5, that I can recall, but I'm sure you could push it way past that if you wanted to. Especially if you got a big custom bolt knob so you could really give it the business.
Overtime the lands will walk back a bit, they take the most friction in the barrel. It's not a bad idea to have it rechecked, just in case the old load data isn't ideal now.
How's the availability of primers in the US? Here in Europe is really crazy. We have nothing available and when you find some the price is 5 times what it was 1 year from now.
i use a col of 2.200 with 40 gr vmax. Good sd and very good groups. Even at 300 meters. I have a very thight lotar Walter barrel. So my maks loads are below most data i find on web and books. But my velocity is usally higher.
...I've got 65grn Sierra GC and 69grn SMKs shooting bug hole 5 shot groups (0.3-0.5") with N133 in 80F down to freezing @100 yards, resizing with a Lee Collet neck sizing die in Sako and Geco brass...
With the 40grain Noslers and Sierras my 22-250 likes 8208xbr. I didn't chronograph the loads.I haven't looked at load data for 223 with that powder but maybe give it a chance.
Just loaded 27gr of h335 under these and was in the 3390-3400fps range from a 16” carbine…ran out of benchmark and tac so I tried h335 ands awsome so far
Think you could try some of the Nosler 40gr BT Varmint in that rifle? Been working up some loads lately for an encore with 26” length and 1-12”twist... it’s been making me scratch my head at times! Just wondering if it’s just me! LOL
Hi, I've been watching your reloading vids for awhile. Helped me get into reloading and what to expect out of reloads. Do you think 223 could be loaded hot with heavier projectiles for a good medium game round and mild for small game/ varmet? In Australia while hunting we can encounter anything from rabbits to large deer (depending where you hunt).
Try the Sierra 65gr Gameking. According to the techs at Sierra (whom I’ve talked with a bunch over the years since they developed it) was specifically designed for medium size game - they mention Roos a few times when talking about this projectile. I have done a fair bit of shooting and have found this particular bullet to be very easy to find a hunting load for. The biggest issue your going to have with mid sized game bullets is barrel twist and velocity! A 9 twist barrel can stabilize most 65-70 gr projectiles, however you CAN easily push the bullets to fast and cause rapid upset and seriously hurt penetration! Finding a balance is VERY IMPORTANT with this small a caliber! The Sierra 65gr Gameking tends to hold together well and isn’t too picky on loading.
Brother I load decently hot loads for such animals. I grew up in the southwest United States. Out there we couldn't use anything smaller than 6 mil for deer, but recently moved to the east coast. I use the 73 ELD-M for antelope out west at about 2830 from a 22 inch barrel. I'm using varget and RL-15 but pushing them in 556 pressure territory. Hope that helped man. 🤘
Almost forgot to mention the 60 grain VMAX has been my favorite for years for an all around varmint bullet ,but haven't used on anything else. That load is with h335 at 3000fps
I got to load more lightweight 223 for my h&r handi rifle I got it threaded so its as quiet as 223 can be suppressed . 1 in 12 twist really limits bullet choice.
i see those extreme spreads with A2230 but i get some decent groups and ive tried changing several components. but im like you it worries me so I dont use it much and i got a bunch of it. id like to do some trading for some A2495 or A2520 lol
I find it beyond interesting that loads with very high SD numbers can be so accurate. I have found that out in some of my reloading. Why do think this is? It should not be that way, yet it happens.
I don't know that it matters that much when you get into these very high velocities. For instance, an SD of 100 is a very high percentage of your total velocity if you're only reaching 1000FPS. The effect of any deviation is much higher b/c you've got less speed to work with from the outset. 10% of your velocity is variable in this situation. At 4000FPS, a 100 SD is a much lower percentage of actual change in velocity. 2.5% of your velocity is variable in this situation. We're talking a 10% change vs a 2.5% change. We'd need to see a 400 SD to equal the same 10% of change as in my first example and that's just very unlikely to happen unless something is seriously wrong. His SD numbers are actually only a 1% or less change of his total velocity. I hope that makes sense to you.
I don't know if it is just the camera angle, but your scope straps look a little strange. I went back and checked the previous video and it doesn't look like the scope moved, but maybe take a look at the mounts and straps.
Might be time for a new firing pin spring. F-Class guys always talk about how they change them before they give issues that old of a gun it might be time for a bolt look over.

That rifle just shoots. What a fabulous gun. Love this series. Keep it up. Semper Fi bud.

Thank you, Morten! I visited Norway during my military service. Trondheim and Levanger area. A beautiful country! I'll never forget riding a bus through Hell, which was completely frozen over at the time.
I've loaded for 223 for many years and found Winchester 748 to be very accurate in my Rem 700 Bdl varmint spc. with this bullet. Great video.
TY for taking the time to explain your process.

My favorite powder in 223 with light bullets is accurate arms 2015 .... always a great performer!
Good stuff. Excellent groups. Like those lower SDs
Really enjoying the bolt-action content.
Awesome rifle. Everything you try turns into a good group. I would never be upset with a .87" if that is the worst it gets.
Those as some seriously impressive results. I'm looking forward to seeing how good it gets once you really get it dialed in. I've seen several of the powders that came to mind already mentioned in other comments, but one I haven't seen that might get you closer to the N130 range could be LT-32 if you still have some.

Currently working on a 4064 load ,with 40gr vmax. All your information is great 👍. PS must use drop funnel to get 27.5 in IMI CASE.
Happy to see you get some really good groups. I think I am more disappointed than you when it doesn’t go well.

Hell yeah, make it go bang!
R-7 and benchmark would be killer with those little 40 grainers! Works great with the 40 varmengedon FBT from my rifle! (Tc compass in 556/223)
Those two are definitely on the list to try.
What about 10x also I got a 5lb keg never been opened

That’s really cool that you have his rifle and reloading notes. I wish I had something like that from my grandfather. How old is the rifle?
I’ve had really good luck with n133. My 18” AR will shoot 1/2” all day with 22.9 grains of n133 pushing 50gr vmax.
My old 223 shot the 40gr vmax into little bug holes. Shot great out to 100m. But for out further like 2-300m on kangaroos it lacked a bit of punch compared to the 60gr Vmax
That light trigger pull is visible in the video.

Johnny how about testing the Hammer bullet in .224 70 grain
Accurate LT 30 works good and IMR 4198 with those 40 greiner's Savage model 10 with a 1 in 9 twist 20 inch barrel
Just because I've never used it, I wonder if Reloader 10x would be a good powder for this weight class?
Forward scope ring looks crooked. Gun shoots great so maybe it's just something with the angle we're seeing it from?
Hello form Italy, what is the twist of your remington?

N120 tested in 300 blackout!
Generally I have found that the standard deviation gets better with higher case fill.
Have you tried putting this bullet into the 5.7x28?
Is your front scope ring on correctly? It looks weird on video.
@8:36 it shows an average of 2899, in the white box beside shot an above standard divation. Is that the velocity down range?
The last two fliers almost dont look round. The rest look round those two just look funny.

I just want to know where the hell your getting rifle Primers!!??
Id like to see Accurate 2015 and varget
Benchmark was my baby with this bullet- and it worked well near max 5.56 pressures I assume.. so it had to be blistering fast.
Just loaded 27gr of h335 under these and was in the 3390-3400fps range from a 16” carbine…ran out of benchmark and tac so I tried h335 ands awsome so far

I've tested them in my AR and they shot amazing. ruclips.net/video/CqsQVRDSogM/видео.html
I might test them in this gun at some point.
I'd be tempted to take the lower SD loads and increase the overall lengths about 10 thousands, 5 off the lands.
When all your groups are an inch or so below the bull, why don't you adjust your scope to move them up a bit??
