Well done, thanks, a new 2007 ML350 3.5l owner and now follower - just replaced my pump after a complete breakdown and tow, based on this and wow - you are a star, thanks! For some reason I did not have any of the bottom hoses or clip to remove/replace, although the pump had all the relevant holes for them, had a quick look around incase they'd been left rattling around, but no, just copied what was already in there and it starts first time! Thanks! 😁👍
You are absolutely brilliant .I like your troubleshooting , you run your test then nail it..keep it up.
Man! You are so good. After I watched your video, I wouldn't be attempted to replace myself my fuel pump
I've been looking for a video this in depth for the last 2 weeks. Thank you. You saved my wallet. 👍
Glad to be able to help
Very DIY oriented. Questions that I had through the process, you addressed. Thank you :)
Good job, man! It's really helped me to fix that problem for my ML350 in Kazakhstan!
Great video man. My sister's ml350 just died. Will troubleshoot the control modules once again before buying the fuel pump but this is most likely the case
Thank you for the clear explanation on changing a mercedes fuel pump. Very useful.
Recently got one of these truck and you videos really do help me a lot if not I would be spending loads of money at the dealership
Awesome. Not only did you get to the cause of the issue. You totally fixed it too. Hoping you the best for your next 200000 miles of motoring..
Thanks bro! Hopefully this will help many a Mercedes owner for years to come.
It amazes me how these auto engineers decided to make it so difficult to get to the fuel pump. Couldn’t they have used crews to fasten the cover with a rubber gasket instead of that adhesive? Also, the use of that plastic ring requiring a special tool is criminal. Simplicity is the way to go Mercedes, geeze.
Great vid! Perfectly detailed diagnoses and repair. Now I know another likely $1k potential problem & repair of a 2007 ML350 I just found for sale, that could possibly strand me on a coast-to-coast drive in the middle of scary nowhere. (Like TX.) T Y!
Great detail. Having this done on my 08 this week
Another fantastic, informative and helpful video. Well Done! I've now sold my ML 320CDI , but I now own a GL320 CDI , which are basically the same car, so will definitely keep watching your videos. Thanks again Keith! Big love
I wish i had a CDI. Great motor. Thanks for watching and the kind words. Love and peace.
@@iRepairAutos Thanks Keith, do they sell the Diesel CDI over in the USA?
Excellent job Keith. You are a surgeon my friend. You were very meticulous and detail oriented. Thx for the tips once again. Glad your vehicle is up and running. Salute!!!
Thanks illwills. I was very nervous the whole time with this repair. I didn't want any sparks or static discharge. She's back on the road. The pump is super quiet now and working like a champ.
Well said I just need to know does it work for 2003
Excellent video. I just successfully replaced my GL450 (X164) fuel pump thanks to your video.
Hey bro can you tell me why did u change fuel pump? What was the reason
@beqapapu541 it started making a lot of noise
@@iRepairAutos can u tell me what this pump makes? Its pumping fuel from tank. To engine or its pumping air from tank to outside when we are filling gas?
@@iRepairAutos i have w211 E class 320 and when i m filling tank with gas sometimes it is stoping and fall ground
I have that problem
(Sry for my English🙂)
Just finished n thanks to this video I achieved it in a few hrs.. floor cover and the cap was the hardest
Excellent work! You got an A++.
Thanks!
Great video, can’t wait to switch our filter out.
hey you are in Boston !!!! Me too. You have the best videos / Your video helped me on my CLK350 and it was the PUMP!!!!
Looks like the only remaining task for me, replace the pump. Thanks for the help. I had done all the troubleshooting, including pressing the needle on the schrader valve without result. Not looking forward to the pump replacement.
Thanks man, Geo
Did you check to see if it's getting 12 volts?
Great video.. I like how you are very detailed in your explanation..! Keep making more videos like this.
Thanks my friend. I'll keep them coming.
Thanks man.....very good.....from Brasil!!!!!
Well done👍Just a kind reminder, the "adjutable workaround" tool is really hard to use. It can easily break the nuts and maybe can not make the cover back tightly, at least in my case until I use the "full size round" tool. In my case, there is lot of gas smell in the car after my fuel pump repairment for the first time and DAS report a carbon canister pressure error. When I resolve this smell issue, I stick the cover fully back. Never mind, I think you can seal the cover tightly 100%. Maybe you can notice if there is some error code. Big fun of you, thanks for your shares.
You're correct. The tool can break the tabs or slip. I wish i had the 4 pronged one. I was careful with the gas as to not spill any in the vehicle. This is a highly dangerous job and would recommend draining all the fuel first.
good work ..thank you man
Muchísimas gracias por tu conocimiento y compartirlo 😊😃
Absolutely fabulous!!!!!
👍 Well done and quickly. Thank you..
Awesome job, Great instructions, Thanks 🙏
Awesome video Kieth. My ml500 fuel pump is going bad so this video is very helpful to me. Thanks again
Thanks Vu. Do it before it fails and leaves you stranded. If you do the job you can drive the vehicle to almost empty and not have to worry with lots of fuel.
iRepair Autos what are the symptoms ?
@@MobilediscowirralCoUk pump fails to spin when brushes get tooo short! All tank pump designed to die that way with a few no start before being dead solid gone.
Well done, good tips.
Man, this is amazing!
you man are like doctors hart surgeons.....god job. I hop my car will never need this . I could never do it , and dealer will charge 5 000
Thanks for the tutorial
Great video. I used it to change my fuel pump and it made the task easy. Now the car shakes a little and I suspect the fuel filter has a problem. I think the procedure to replace the fuel filter is pretty much the same as to access it. Any advice on this subject?
Thank you awesome video
Thanks for your support
Good job 👍🏼 bro thanks for video
Thanks. Hopefully it's useful for those who need it.
Thank you for info
Hi Keith, I'm having a fuel vapors problem in my w211, when I'm driving I smell gas vapors and my eyes get irritated. I took it to my mechanic but he said it was ok but I still have those symptoms. Any ideas?
Thank you
I changed the plugs in mine cause it was surging still doing it while accelerating do you think changing the pump will help with that
Great video and channel!! Can you make a how to video regarding the A/C blender? My GL450 the driver side is warm but the passenger side is cold. I would lie to know how to fix that.
Do you have any videos on how to replace the fuel filter
Hi, Thank for the good step-by-step replacement process. I have a 2014 ML350. Looks like I have same issue. Trying to figure out where the location of fuel pump. Can you help me? It's not under left back seat.
Nice. How did you know it needed replacement ? Is it same procedure for an ML 55 amg - 2000 ?
I have a W164 petrol of the same year, mine tends to have a hard start whenever I don't use it for awhile. Could it be a fuel pump issue or an issue with a non return valve?
Keith, did you use the old gasket? I’ve Ordered my pump. I am ready to install, but there is no gasket with it and wondering if the original would suffice. Thank you! I’ve watched a lot of your videos so far for different things on my car. I greatly appreciate your content 🫡
Any idea about the part number for a replacement metal lid (the one you reused) ?
Do you have a video on how to replace fuel filter for ML550 2008?
I have the same Mercedes ML350 2006. It leaking fuel, I checked the connections from the top of the fuel tank, and it seems like the connections are good from the top. What are the possibilities and how can I fix it?
Awesome tutorial. But I think I’m going to go to the shop for that job! LOL!
Yes. This one is pretty dangerous. Not hard. Just you know.. things could go up in a boom
yep... be sure not to rub on a carpet or leather seat before getting elbow deep in gasoline
@@iRepairAutos I guess not with Diesel , right
Hi
the hot engine of my car starts up for a very long time, on a cold very quickly it ,can be fuel pump?
Thank you for the video
Great video. I have a 2004 ML350 with a P0446 Evap issue? Do you have any video on this issue. Help I'm at a lost. Tested purge valve (ticking) added a missing canister didn't fix issue, check has power at canister. Does the ML350 have a fuel tank pressure sensor? If so can you show me the location..I appreciate any help. Thank You
Extremely well down details video so much appreciate I quickly subscribed to support, is there a different with the ML500 or is everything pretty much the same as far as location part etc?
Exremely similar. Check part with your vin# they variy even in same exact models.
Excellent video but you forgot to show us how to test the fuel pump plug !!!
did you replace the fuel pump relays and fuses too?
Is the fuel pump also located in the rear seats behind the driver side for a Mercedes GLA 45 AMG?
Is the process similar for 2008 R350 FP replacement?
Is your ML350 a PZEV vehicle and if so would'nt it be covered under a warranty? I know my 09 E350 is and I believe anything emission / fuel related is covered under a warranty which IIIRC Mercedes extended. Just curious
Is it safer to do this with a close to full tank of gas to reduce vapors? I see a lot of people do this on an almost empty tank but I would think that is more unsafe.
Is this pzev tank ?( partial zero emision ) ?
I have 2006 e350 pzev
Please let me know.
Thanks
love the cricket noise
Hey man I have a load of codes from abs and esp any pointers ! And the shocks are bad really bad
Who DOESN'T like this? 9! Amazing!
Haters....
Will the r500 Mercedes-Benz fuel pump be located in the same place?
bro. Keith, your daughter now has some serious thanking to do for all the pain and agravation you prevent her getting at the Benz dealer... another $1,500 saved!
Hi bro! I agree. She was quiet upset that it just silently died with her at a traffic light and swore profusely that she did nothing wrong. Over the phone she told me all the wrong things. i.e. ABS light, SRS light, Brake light, on and car doesn't move. She didn't mention that the engine wasn't running or even starting. So i ignored everything said and plugged in the icarsoft scanner when the tow truck brought it home and did a deep dive.
@@iRepairAutos Agreed...
I personally drive along with my scanner stored in the trunk.
My 40kMi E350 always has an interesting collection of faulty modules (RFK:rearCam, DCU:FrtRightDoor, mbrace,...)
I like to enumerate & reset fresh the vehicle while wife is out shopping. Engine runs *smoother* with low-rpm torque when bus is fault free.
Luckily both the Fuel Injection and Tranny Control Modules software have proven *very* stable while most other modules are subject to transient instabilities ("E C O: Engine Cut Off").
Long story short: clear all the faults is a good idea (does *keep* all adaptations).
👍🏻
That's a great idea. I keep that scanner on me as well. I like to look at the various readings while the car is being driven by someone

Hello Sir, I have 2006 Mercedes Benz ML350 4WD 6 Cylinders 3.5L, when I bang under the fuel tank, car starts but poorly. It seems like it has bad fuel pump. But when I start looking to buy fuel pump, it looks like there are 2 fuel pumps for my car. one under passenger side rear seat and other one, under driver side rear seat, is that true? How would I know which one is bad? Thank you very much!!!
Good job Keith. What happens to the system memories with the ground wire off. i have always had the thought that the pump is fuel cooled , so running the tank to low, to often ,would maybe cause a bit of overheat and shorten pump life. Don't know if this is factual though.
All electronics should be off before disconnecting the ground. Then no issues will arise. The pump is indeed cooled by the gasoline. However, the hoses at the top of the pump pulls fuel in from the bottom and drenches the pump from the top. If the tank is extremely low, you do risk heating up the pump and possibly pulling contaminants (dirt) into the pump or at least into the fuel filter which is in the left side of the tank.
Benz is a bit more elaborate than the tradition NA cars with a small rag suction on the bottom. i guess that's where my thoughts lie Take care and keep up the great vids . @@iRepairAutos
Do you know where a fuel pump for a 2012 Mercedes Benz ML350 is.
I think it would have been easier and safer, if you pumped the gasoline out into a container, as soon as you openned the gas tank.
manual siphon pump is less than $10, and once you squeeze the gas through it, then whole thing will drain via gravity, so that you don't have to keep pumping, just have to wait for it to drain.
Why did u put the new gasket on then switch back to the old one?? Did it leak?
Is the ml350 2003 like this
My 2008 ml350 is missing one of those fuel lines I can’t seem to find it
Whats the torque specifications for the fuel pump lid? Thank you so much!
No specific torque just lock it tight enough.Good tightening.
Do you know location of fuel pump switch? I brake too hard and car thinks it got into accident
I have a 2009 Ml320.bluetec. does it use the same fuel pump for diesel?
Send me the last 8 digits of your vin
I'm out of California right now
Nothings wrong with my fuel.pump on my.bluetec. Thank you for answering my question.
What do you think a shop would charge ????
What lights came up? My 2007 mL350 won’t start stalled on me while driving, no throttle response. Mechanic is saying pump is fine, filter?
Hello. How did you fix it? Thank you
Nice video, let me ask you a question, and maybe you can help me, my c300 pump pressure i checked yesterday and shows about 69.85 psi to 71.56 psi, my mpg show between 24 and 25,9 the normal pressure is about 50 psi, should I check my fuel injectors?
What symptoms does the car have?
@@iRepairAutos when I'm at 65mph the cars feel heavy to the engine, to have a good mpg I need to keep at least 75 to 80 mph. and year ago or more I did 29mpg doing the same trip.
Is the check engine light on?
@@iRepairAutos No nothing, just the pressure is high.
@@iRepairAutos the only symptoms its the pump pressure, and sometimes I fell that the car needs to step more on the gas and the has 157k miles.
you can remove fuel pump lock ring with flat blade screwdriver and a mallet. Bypass the special tool.
broke the hose on the tiny metal clip thanks to your idea of just twisting at it with needle nose. You have to cut the clip off at the ear and replace it. new pump usually comes with the hoses anyway
maybe this is why my pump failed 6 months in. getting worse every day. sTarted going from 3 hours runtime, then down to finally 15 minute without stopping dead. finally to die in my driveway lol.
Why were you working with a full tank of fuel? Would it not be safer to run it down and do the work when it's close to empty?
yes - always safer to have as little gas as possible. With a faulty gas float I had no way of knowing how much gas was really in there.
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Do you have one for furl tank removal same vehicle?
No I don’t. Sorry
@@iRepairAutos thank you
What year
Pls for 2015 model
should smell gas if the the lid is not sealed but bolted down??
Yes that’s highly possible
Dude mine is 2014 ml340 can’t access to the fuel filter or to the pump l ended up opening the hood and get everything apart looking for the fuel pump but eventually not located on the front so it could be under the seat or somewhere else? Much appreciate if anyone had replaced the 2013 ml350 and up !
It's inside the gas tank
iRepair Autos thank you for the honest response 👍 do you think the fuel filter is located on the tank too ? Appreciate
iRepair Autos I just got the tank down but still not all the way out because of the middle Barr trying to figure it out hiw to 👍
@@unclesam1707 you should be able to gain access to the filter and pump by removing the seat
iRepair Autos yes l tried and pulled the carpet off wasn’t there the 2014 w166 model is different they have made it when can’t do it yourself ! Have to have the tank down which have to remove the exhaust and plastic sides and the aluminum covers to get to the tank it was hard ah ! Now trying to open both filter and pump on the other side
The 2007 looks completely different because there is a strainer on a metal arm that extends about 12 to 14 inches
Reminds me of my Coupe C230k 2001. Not a fun job.
I am doing this job but all the lines are brittle and we're broke in the tank when I opened it. I just need to know where all the hoses go I know the new sending unit comes with the high pressure line and return line and electrical contractor. But the other two line I have no idea and need help if anybody knows. The on with the metal clip on it and the big one next to it return line I think. Please help?!!??
Hello Michael. So what you did? Thank you
I ended up just buying a new sending unit and pump so both sides got replace and I hooked up the hoses I had and it worked so I think I was over thinking it. But thank you so much for the help
my level on the gas is only going 3/4 full....mercedes told me that i need a fuel sending unit with level sensor and fuel pump.... does that whole assembly you replace containt all what mercedes is telling me?
ML350? then yes.
@@iRepairAutos its ML350 2007..... thanks. the dealer wants $1750. Gas level goes to only 3/4 tank . we plan to sell the car and want everything sorted out.
Hello Sir i did that i replaced the pump but the car still not starting any idea 🙏
What happened did you get it straight
My pump is turning with the screw on lid can i damage something inside or what can i do??
Mines doing the same thing. Did it mess up anything? Appreciate any advice. Thanks
Hello Mr. Gorilla. How did you resolve it? Thank you
Why didn’t, you change the gas filter?
How does the electronics work in petrol 😂
Very dangerously..... lol. No seriously. No sparks from an already connected and grounded system. But yeah. I see and understand the argument.
Freaked me out in the 80's when I first observed this trend. All automakers use this now.. I have pulled charred wires out of gas tank . They were drenched by fuel but no oxygen. No problem.
This was done in hind sight to prevent the thousands of fires caused by people who should not be turning a wrench. No attention to leaks , cross threading fuel lines or failing diaphragm pumps who spit fuel out
See that dirt on the bottom? That’s what caused the pump to fail.
most likely. Gas tank after 15 years....
Dude no gloves whoa
That's some brain surgery,King.
