  • We got the Toyota Cressida back in Australia, it was usually a sedan, sometimes a stationwagon. Never do I recall seeing one in the very-sexy coupe body style. Wow, these things are amazing. They came in plenty of different grades, too. One of the reasons they were known by so many different names is that they were sold through several different Toyota sales chains.

    mine is a lot more different to the ones in australia, its got 6 seats, a 3 speed colume shift, no air conditioning, no wood grains on the inside, also most badges on the front are red but for some reason mine is green.

    Yeah? Never, never seen one. The ones you've seen, have they generally been left stock?

    Too short? I find the uninterrupted rear quarter-panels of coupes exaggerate the length. No? (I ask that question as a Frenchman would. No reason why.)

  • @wasabicars
    @wasabicars  11 лет назад

    It certainly is a special ting that (some) old cars are so beautifully maintained here in Japan, because 99.99% of the population do not care. As for the roads & rain, the roads generally good but (slow moving) and rain is just normal.

  • @wasabicars
    @wasabicars  11 лет назад

    I have to agree. I def see US styling influence in the car. As for the rear windscreen wiper, a commenter below says it was an option.

  • @wasabicars
    @wasabicars  11 лет назад

    When I see this in two-door guise, they do kinda remind me of some North American cars. can't actually name any but they do seem U.S. inspired.

  • @wasabicars
    @wasabicars  11 лет назад

    The wheels on these are pretty much what you could expect from cars like these in Japan. It's cultural.

  • @fehquig
    @fehquig 11 лет назад

    There used to be a lot of these on the roads in Canada, but they were all four-door sedans. I'm not sure about ever seeing any wagons, but the coupes are something new to me. I don't believe that many of these survive here. I haven't seen one in a very long time!

  • @wasabicars
    @wasabicars  11 лет назад

  • @jasoncarpp7742
    @jasoncarpp7742 11 лет назад

    I've never understood why they were never sold in North America. While sedans and wagons are nice, there are some people who would prefer to have a two door car, particularly if you have children between the age of 3 and 10 yrs.

  • @Threetails

    They made a Cressida coupe? It is SHARP!

    • @wasabicars
      @wasabicars  3 года назад

      They did. On a related point, Cressida was the export name for the car. All the ones in this vid weren't Cressidas. It's all very confusing for me because growing up in Australia, they were... Cressidas.

  • @River1Nile

    It's a shame they did not import the coupe to the US !! Nice looking cars with the six cylinder engines and fuel injection. They remind me of the Ford Mustang II in the body style and front end treatment. Interior is nice except for the crush velour seats, not my cup of tea !!! :( They tend to fade in sun light after awhile. Can any one say, Elvis !!! LOL XD ^_^ What up with the back glass wiper on one of the cars ?? O.o

  • @phekwig
    @phekwig 11 лет назад

    It's a lot like that Mustang-Celica connection of the 1970s... I went back and squinted my eyes at the opening shot, and what I saw looked like a cross between a Ford Mustang II and a1978 Chevrolet Monte Carlo from the front corner of the car... Interesting that they never sold them on this side of the Pacific, but I guess they were concentrating on sensible conservative sedans here while the coupe market was already saturated.

  • @fabulousprofound
    @fabulousprofound 11 лет назад

    maybe toyota felt that the celica/supra was enough and there was no market for a this? i'm just guessing... can't remember what it was like back then.

    what the ... ??? i thought the one that i spotted in your other video was the only one .. cause it was the first time for me too see a 2 door cresseda a.k.a corona ... but man that's alot of 2 door cressedas ! and they are surprisingly clean . i'm not a big fan of cressedas .. but the black one was looking good .
    keep up the good work dan ...

  • @Menolifee
    @Menolifee 11 лет назад

    Man those are some nice cars, but for some odd reason I always preferred the 4 door and the wagon. The 2 door just seems kind of too short, like "incomplete" to me. Hehe.
    Then again I do in most cars.

  • @Menolifee
    @Menolifee 11 лет назад

    To me this looks sort of like someone had cut a four door in half and left the rear doors out and welded back together. Haha but I guess it's just me then.

  • @jasoncarpp7742
    @jasoncarpp7742 11 лет назад

    Sweet looking coupes. For some reason, Toyota never sold them here in the USA. I've seen the sedan and the station wagon, as the Cressida, but never a two door coupe.

  • @aRustyPatina
    @aRustyPatina 11 лет назад

    What are they saying about the older white sedan? Looks like fun. I've sold VWs to some folks in Japan years ago, mainly vw buses. Enjoyed this as always. W.

  • @ClassicCarSpotter
    @ClassicCarSpotter 11 лет назад

    Awesome cars like usual. I just wonder how do they keep them so clean? I guess it's the roads and it also says a lot about people themselves. This applies for most of the cars on your channel. I just can't imagine driving any of my cars on our roads in the rain and driving out of it like nothing happened. Not to mention the abuse our cars take from bad roads... I want to see these cars in person some time in the future lol :)
