  • We've been using the ‪@velocirax9406‬ 7 bike rack for just over a year. We've taken it on short day trips as well as long cross country treks. In this video I get into what we love about the rack, and some of the stuff we're not so fond of.
    Hopefully this will give you some useful information in case you are sitting on the fence about buying the VelociRAX. Feel free to ask me any questions in the comments and I'll be sure to reply.

    Super helpful review and video. It pushed me over the edge to order the Velocirax 5X instead of the JB Racks or Yakima Hangover or Hangtight.

    Really appreciate the time and effort that obviously went into this review. This first hand perspective makes it much easier to choose the right rack !

    Thanks for the detailed review. I just started looking into bigger racks for shuttling and your video showed up in my feed. Extended my Thule T2 was thrown out the window for similar reasons you mentioned and also how much it affects a vehicle's handling.

      Awesome. Hopefully it was a useful review for you. It’s a great rack, despite it’s occasional annoyance. No regrets on my end.

    You said you have a 4X now, but that is not listed on the Velocirax website, only the 412, which is 12" between bikes. Does the 4X have 15" spacing, like the other "X" models?

    You can get the anti rattle much tighter than what I saw in your footage. I use an impact drill with a socket in it. As it tightens lift up and push on the rack. It should be completely solid when it's fully expanded.... Great review!

      I’ve never actually had a problem with rattle when tightening by hand. It’s solid. The only movement is with the bike bouncing a bit because of their suspension. But that can be remedied by using elastics to hold the brake levers engaged. I’ve started doing that and the bounce is pretty much eliminated.
      Thanks for watching and reaching out!

      @@AitchYXE yeah straps in the brakes make a huge difference.

    Great vid and the channel looks awesome, new sub.
    I’ve also got a half ton pickup. Wondering if you ever drop the rack down completely for ‘camp mode’? If so, were you able to open the tailgate without the hitch extender? Are you able to open it with the hitch extender?
    We’ve got a RTT and need something that gives us bed access.
    VR is at the top of my list, but a tray rack with swing out is also still under consideration.
    Cheers from YEG!

      Thanks for watching and the subscribe! Appreciate it.
      I rarely put it in camp mode. But can see us using that feature more this summer since we plan to do some actual camping 😂. But if you do have it in camp mode the tailgate could be lowered all the way without issue (I’m pretty sure - I don’t think there is anything that would impede it).
      On my FX4 it was so close to being able to fully open without the extender. I could have just let it rest on the lowered rack, but I didn’t want to put extra weight into it. The extender worked well.
      With the Tremor it has a wider tailgate at the top so even with the extender it still contacts the rack, but so little that I’m not worried about it.

      Hey @kevinhandy2490 did you end up going with the VR? I also have a RTT set up and am struggling with finding a good solution other then spending near $2k on a full swing away.
      Also from YEG, Cheers!

      @@mikeyfiveoh6285 after a long time and a LOT of research I ended up going with a swing away tray, and I'm very, very happy with it. You're right though - basically 2k. Kuat Piston Pro + Pivot, and I'd do it again! Good luck

    Hey, just curious because I really want one of these, but when you're having a problem getting it back on the hitch is it because you removed it in the lowered position? Have you tried removing in the upright position yet? Great content by the way!

    • @AitchYXE
      @AitchYXE  Год назад

      I think we have found our groove now and are able to get it on and off without much of a problem. The reason we put it in the camping position when taking it off is because to hang it on the wall you have to get it into that position. Doing that after it is off the truck would be tricky.
      It’s a minor thing and I would definitely recommend going with the VelociRAX for your rack.

    Hello, ive got a sienna and inwas concerned about it bottoming out , exiting the driveway. I also was concernwd about rusting and corrosion on the dampeners. Maybe wrapping them in plastic...?

    • @AitchYXE
      @AitchYXE  Год назад +2

      I have driven through lots of rain with the rack and I haven’t seen any issue with the dampers. I haven’t noticed any rust or corrosion, but I haven’t really got in for a detailed look. I don’t use it in the winter so it isn’t exposed to salt.
      I’m not sure if backing out of your driveway will be an issue. Probably depends on how low your hitch is in relation to your bumper. Is it below your bumper, or does it come out from inside the bumper (I’ve seen some SUV hitches like that).
      I would suggest reaching out to VelociRAX and asking about clearance for your specific vehicle. They could likely give you a better answer than me on that one.
      But overall, loving the rack. I actually just got another one - the 4X. We typically only cart around 4 bikes and it is much easier to take on and off compared to the 7. Having both hanging on our garage wall really cleans up the fleet of bikes we have 😂

    Does it fit in the garage on the truck?

    • @AitchYXE
      @AitchYXE  2 месяца назад

      Yes, without bikes it isn’t any higher than the cab. It won’t fit if I have bikes on it though.
