Most every video he puts out gets me to either add something new to the wish list or buy more games to throw on the backlog. Appreciate the approach of examining the details and the emotional resonance a game convey rather than the usual straight forward type of review.
My favorite thing thematically about Juggernaut is how the game justifies the vignettes within the overarching plot. Basically, you are in the mind mansion of your demonically-possessed girlfriend and have to progressively open the way to her core by confronting the demon in each vignette. The priest that's helping you with all this, tells you that you have to lose your identity in order to embody each protagonist So, Thor talking about how he was forgetting the overall point of the story seems to be an effect the designers leaned into. You can empathize with the protagonist becoming eight different people, jarringly thrust into bizarre scenarios, while the memory of the person you're doing all this for becomes more distant, perhaps even secondary to seeing the next crazy thing the game can throw at you. Even before that point, your sense of self is in constant flux, with the rapidly-changing environments, body-swapping, and having to watch yourself die to progress. Playing Juggernaut can be experienced like a dissociative nightmare, where you incept into new nightmares and only have random interjections to remind you of the boundary between yourself and the dream-selves. It was wild emulating this as a teen alongside Galerians
Vampire Rain is a surprisingly fun game with a weirdly competent story once you decide to roll with the punches it throws at you. I have the achievement to prove that I completed it. It’s super weird that it all of a sudden half way through just opens up and lets you approach objectives how you want
My only memory of Enchanted Arms was going over a friend's apartment when it came out and spending like half the day watching him play it. Was a good time and made quite the impression on me, being the first "new gen" JRPG out at the time. Ended up kind of disappointed we didn't get more games like it.
thor's entire channel always fills me with child-like wonder at just how many different games are out there hidden in little corners, like i'm not familiar at all with saturn nor ps3 nor a bunch of other non-portable consoles but seeing a bit of what they offer makes me very excited to get scavenging on my own someday i love videogames man..................
For me, Vampire Rain was never an horror game, just an infiltration game where there was no margin for error: If you dont take the path the developer thought for you, you die. But even with that it was intriging and fun. Specially when it clicked inside. In my case, that happened in the first interior mission. Then I got in to the zone and inmersed in the game and had a lot of fun.
I'm really impressed. I've only ever seen Vampire Rain show up on "worst games" lists or "this game sucks" kind of videos but the way you describe it, it sounds like a good survival horror game that made the mistake of fooling players into thinking its a splinter cell game (and having them play it as such). Like... I actually want to play it now.
15:50 lmao did u just announce the new origame digital game unceremoniously in an intermission like that? i'm so hype!!!!! i can't find anything about it anywhere, i'm gonna go crazy!!!!! why is no one talking about this in the comments!!!! we talking bout the follow up to umurangi, one of the best games i've ever played, recipient of one of the most prestigious indie game awards!
He truly gives everything a fair shake, and that's really refreshing in a culture that prioritizes joyless nihilism disguised as logical cynicism. Even bottom of the barrel rubbish like Juggernaut or Vampire Rain has SOMETHING to offer, if only you are willing to engage with it on its own terms. That's something THH does very well - no outside preconceptions about how this kind of game Should Play Like (this is how you end up with that notorious Alien Resurrection review mentioned here) - a genuine desire to approach the art the way it asks to be approached. Many critics fail to do even this bare minimum, such is the dire state of media literacy today.
@@traewilson5127 agreed. only recently discovered ThorHH as well as Grim Beard and the fact that they both not only truly have a love for this art form but also are openly joyful about just playing the damn things. Lol I never realized how conditioned I was to expect reviewers to act like playing this or that game was akin to a trip to the DMV. 😂 Hearing someone with a vast knowledge of all things _"gaming"_ have a good time sharing it and still can be funny af without hating absolutely everything that moves is insanely refreshing.
There's no way you've convinced me to play Vampire Rain of all things. No promise to finish it since 30 hours might be a bit much but it genuinely made me excited to give it a shot
I used to love climbing to the highest mountain I could in King's Field facing down and jumping off, the graphics served a surprisingly visceral experience of falling to your death... Also great video!
NGL the second the night vision popped up in the beginning all I could focus on was the litterbox and whether or not we'd gotten a THH kitty appearance so when the jump scare boy came along I threw my hands in the air and went "YEEEES!"
you mad lad, you did it again, now you made vampire rain look appealing, sign me up for that mp match i know for sure there's dirt cheap copies on my local game store and im willing to snatch one up
You should play "total chaos" a doom total conversion mod. Insanely good and somewhat obscure. I put it up with silent hill as one of the best survival horror action games
I discovered your channel very recently and man your videos are so cool, I thought I have a big knowledge about video games but each time you drop a video, I discover a new game or two, that sick ^^ Greetings from Belgium in Europe.
Vampire Rain was always one of those games I thought sounded cool but I was warded off of because of the reviews. I actually kind of like the idea of a stealth game that's more about traversing an open environment unseen instead of infiltration. I definitely wouldn't have had the patience for it at the time I had a 360 but I could see it as being a nice, slower paced chill out game with some tense set pieces to break it up
Absolutely wild that the vampire voice sound effect in Vampire Rain just makes them sound like they're trying to troll people on Call of Duty with the Xbox headset.
Goddamn, you just reminded me of reading a bit about Juggernaut in this big book of PS1 games walkthrough/tips/cheats as a kid. Onto the backlog it goes.
I'd love to see a spiritual successor to Vampire Rain with better learning of the mechanics, because it is indeed pretty fun and enjoyable. Maybe even with some more immersive sim cues? No, that'd probably curse it..
I saw the cat box in the intro and thought "Hey wouldn't it be great if the 'scare' was just his cat doing some normal cat thing?" And then I laughed for a good ten minutes when it happened. Anyway, please tell your cat I love them.
Man, everytime i see your videos i get happy to know about so many interesting and creative games, but also a little sad knowing that we would never get remakes of these games or a legal (and cheap) way of getting them. Love your videos!!
@@joshuniacke2442 i know and i do. It just about the remake part that bugs me, specially now with a lot of remakes coming out of games that dont need one because they are already good.
@@alanbossdon1386 I fear remakes of a lot of these kinds of game would lose their contextual aesthetics and become something different entirely when combined with modern tastes, for example the music and colour styles of gran turismo 2 vs gran turismo 7
Thor, when you talk about how good the audio is or the vibe is due to the audio/visual combo could you please show us in the video? Like at 11:18, after you describe the atmosphere being great with the rain and storms, cut to a part that captures this feeling, let the scene sit for however many seconds to get the feeling across
I've been in an adventure game mood recently so Juggernaut sounds quite tempting, but man I don't now if I'm willing to brave that 12 hour playtime tho.

Thor Highheels to save us once again by making me fascinated into a game i never heard about before

He's easily the best creator that covers games

Vampire Rain was my first Two best friends play video, so it'll always have a janky place in my heart
The early 2010s were a simpler and much nicer time
For me, Vampire Rain was never an horror game, just an infiltration game where there was no margin for error: If you dont take the path the developer thought for you, you die.
But even with that it was intriging and fun. Specially when it clicked inside. In my case, that happened in the first interior mission. Then I got in to the zone and inmersed in the game and had a lot of fun.

Cat The Ripper was like a fan of your channel went back in time and made a Sega Saturn game

Both Hazel and Thor love their Gex references! Great spooky video btw!

I was listening to this with my headphones and when the Cat the Ripper joke happened the door knocking sound effect terrified me
Never thought I'd live to see a Vampire Rain Redemption arc, hot damn!
Straight tonkin’ and smonkin’ killed me
That feel when you lying in bed as the little spoon with your SO and getting comfy with a THH vid before falling asleep.
vampire rain actually sounds awesome. weirdly similar to far cry 2, which i think could also be categorized as long range stealth.
Is this the first teaser to FIVESEVEN? I can't find any information or discussion online it looks really cool
I've been thinking about peeping Vampire Rain for a while glad to see it's actually goated
I recognise that Shitstorm of Scariness music.
Can confirm vampire rain multiplayer was jank, turning into a vampire was broken op, and it was absurdly fun for what it was.
That cat is so cute....
Also, yet another amazing video!!!!
So I’m not the only one who saw a trailer for a new surreal horror game from the creators of Umurangi Generation in the middle of the video right?
Looooove the super best friends play reference in the beginning. Shitstorm of Scariness season bby.
Such spoopy video about spoopy games made with spoopy quality imbedded.
Thanks a lot, LokiLowBoots

25:32 this little clip of you verbally shitposting over the logo FMV is like the cutest and most charming thing my god I love this
I love how Thor is the one channel that gives a shit about Enchanted Arms. I love that game so much because it was my first JRPG.
The absurdly long drum roll followed by "E10 deez nu-" really got me 😂
Thank you for doing time codes, I appreciate it a lot!
I recognize that intro theme from the TBFP Shitstorms.
Man, what a classic.
Dudes the most underrated youtuber ever. And I wait patiently for uploads.
Who is this dude? Where he from?
I fucking cackled out loud hearing the shitstorm music
That is one BEAUTIFULLY vocal cat. love it! Also! Super happy to know about the Echo Night PSP game. Love Echo Night.
>Shakira: Hips Lie Twice

wow, becoming a vampire makes you eat blood and the microphone!
I just want to say every video you make ooozes with the concept of Threshold. Keep up the good work.
glad to see the two best friend's play shitstorm intro theme still getting work
I think the Rhinoceros thing is supposed to be a Camel cigarettes ad parody. I used to see ads with that exact format in my town when I was a kid.
Dang that intro was spooky
I've always wanted to play Vampire Rain. Thanks for the mention. I'm gonna pickup a copy.
"The sun looked as a bloddy bag" Someone doesn't like evening I guess
This is indeed a ThorHighHeels video.
Juggernaut is like Return to Zork while going under anesthesia....
Willem in tha opening!
31:45 Jesus. I think I need an ear exam now.
Gonna spend my Halloween (helloween?) with C0vid and Shadows of the damned and classic Resi 🦇
RIP Thor, murdered by Cat the Ripper. 😢
Wow the shitstorm-like intro really brought me back!
Thanks for letting me know about cat the ripper, currently playing it and ohhh boy
And here I am interested in a VN again... thanks thor!!

Frank covers the scariest games yet
i was going to write JUGGERNAUT for the second time on this channel, then checked timestamps. HIGHly recommended one
Sounds a bit like Sanitarium. Using the inside of a mind as an excuse for going through a bunch of otherwise unrelated small projects.
And I want it.

thank you so much for the very long drum roll gave me enough time to really laugh🙏
You are outta pocket with that intro sound and font 😂 how dare you open up that old wound
i want thors high heels to step all over my face
Damn it man, I have watched almost all your videos BUT one question still remains. WHERE do you find these games???
oh shit you reminded me I haven't played echo night beyond, and I was just looking for a halloween game
the intro literally actually creeped me out and then boom Cat :]
Great video, that intro makes me miss 2bfp yearly shitstorm series 😔.
If you ever need footage of Vampire Rain online I have a copy of it!
Same! We need to round up all 8 people who still own this game and make it happen lol
Fuck that shitstorm callback in that intro. Makes one miss TBF's Storms
