Farewell Fakarava; Epic Voyage to Tahiti - Our Fastest Sail Ever! | Episode 255

- Welcome back to our sailing circumnavigation story! This week finds us still at the South Pass of Fakarava, one of our favorite atoll islands in the Tuamotus, and one of the best scuba diving spots in the world. Unfortunately we witness first hand the devastating effects of climate change, and decide to take our last days here alternatively for activities that don't bring tears to our eyes, and spend a whole day at Pink Sands Beach with fellow sailors Brian & Kazza on SV Delos. After that very enjoyable beach day we say goodbye to Fakarava and set sail for Tahiti, which in the past has typically taken us two days to complete, however some very strong winds combined with a faster boat now because of our clean bottom and folding props, we see out fastest speeds ever! We end up averaging 7 knots speed the whole way and drop anchor in the dark, luckily we know the area and the anchorage very well so there is no issues, and we get the wake up the next day nestled in the beauty and protection of Moorea's beautiful mountains.

I can not believe your channel doesn't have over 100K. i love watching you guy's all ways fun and down to earth. Question have you ever thought about doing lives couple time a month i would think that would help a bunch. Another great video have fun.
It is always a fun time when you and delos are together at same place.
This was a fun episode. Tons of smiles and laughs with good people. Not to much pizza as you both are looking fit and trim......healthy. See you next time. ✨ 🌊 💨 ⛵️ 🏝️ 👙 🌞 ✨
sweet scenery and enjoy the food!
GOOD JOB, I ALWAYS LOOK FORWARD TO NEXT WEEKS VID
Thanks! Much more to come!!
Amazing drone footage! So beautiful!
Thanks a lot! We try!!
Thank you so much. Warren is a pro when it comes to capturing the scenery with the drone
Great video, thank you for sharing
Thanks guys, great video. Now enjoy the rest and the pizza. Stay safe we love y'all. 👍🏻💕🐾
Love you guys !
For a couple of slices of pizza and beers whenever back out on the town…..you looked like you were enjoying it so much! Best to you, and stay fun and well, 🤗
Awww you guys are so sweet! Thank you so much. We are going to really enjoy that pizza! Cheers and hope you two are well!
That was an amazing video. Thank you for taking us along.
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for taking the time to comment!!
You two work so hard!! Truly it takes time, logistics, creativity and sacrifice to produce, package, and release your story every week. Thank you for all that! Seeing clips of the diving last week was hard but at the same time I was reminded of my mother taking me on my first open ocean drift dive on the jetty off the coast of Panama City Beach, I was twelve years old, I had the sensation of flying just above the rocks for what seemed like a mile. Safe travels you two and Thanks!!
💯
I remember diving the jetty at Panama City,
New to your channel. This is now my favorite sailing Vlog. You communicate so well and look to be enjoying the beautiful voyage your on. Both of you have a great outlook and disposition, it comes through. Well done.
Welcome aboard! Thank you for also commenting, glad you found us and hope you enjoy the adventures.
Thank you.
One of your best episodes..... Aloha.....
Oh wow thank you for this comment. We will keep them coming
Amazing work. I hope you never stop. As a PADI open water instructor and now 77, I am traveling virtually with you.
Another great video y’all! Hey Warren, not sure if you have a drogue but it’s a great safety investment! If the seas get big enough to push you passed hull speed you can easily get spun sideways, especially on a catamaran! Stay safe out there!
I bet Brian and Kazza could have fed you guys for a couple more weeks, they always provision extremely well.
Great vid guys, that sail on the way to get food is a bit rough …. Pretty big seas making it a bit uncomfortable…. That is life on the sea I guess!
Keep smiling!
The only thing that could have made that passage better, would have been catching a big enough fish to feed you both at least 2 good meals, lol. Glad to see Delos' time table worked that you were still cruising together, I know Delos 2.0 and Australia are calling them and it won't be long before they fly off. You guys just work so well together, it's a nice fit!
Hey thanks a lot, really appreciate that!!
actually... those waves are bloody huge! I've been in that sort of stuff so I know just how big those things are. 170 miles is very respectable Phil
That first spot -- that you had all to yourselves -- was absolute paradise. Nothing wrong with taking some time to do absolutely nothing. Va looks to be in such great shape -- you obviously take good care of her. Thanks for not doing a segment on Warren cleaning the heads!
I think the wind gods wanted to get you to Tahiti FAST because you had no food left
The shot of you Erica at 15:40 thru 16:26 is one of the few that really does show the sea state although 18:40+ are pretty good also. Normally the camera does not do it justice. Please keep the fixed camera foreground/background shot in mind next time you are in big swells. Great shot! So sad to see you leaving PARADISE. Could an American retiree move there?
Love you guys! Great video off your passage.
My favorite day of the week
Aww that’s awesome thank you so much for tuning in!
Danke!
Thank you so much for this contribution to our videos! 🫶🏽
Holy habatchi, guys! My face hurts from smiling so much. What an amazing farewell to all the beautiful islands, and a final anchorage in the ever-gorgeous Moorea. I’m SO going to miss this place. I could write a friggin’ novel here… but a comment is a comment to the almighty algorithm so… I’ll keep it short(ish). It’s such a treat to have seen your friendship with Kaz, Brian, and the Nugget grow these last few weeks (months?).
You two work together like a finely tuned (well oiled?) machine and it’s such a pleasure to see your respect for each others strengths, and willingness to help pull through your weaknesses. On camera, anyway😉. Another awesome episode. Ok… I’ll shut up. ❤
My stomach sank and my heart dropped to see bleaching in the South Pass and then of course my mind reeled thinking of the trickle effect in ecology impacts all the way to those lovely sharks and spawning grouper. We made it to Raroia and Makemo with eager anticipation to sail back for a visit to Fakarava....great episode as always you keep me going until I can liveaboard full time. Thanks for what you do!
Thanks!
Wow! Thank you so much Jack for this contribution to our channel. It means a lot to us and thank you for coming along on our adventures with us!
Another super groovy and cool, far-out sailing adventure episode. Some times when I am watching one of your adventures I loose myself and feel that I am really there with you. It feels so magical, minus the saltwater drying on my silk PJ's. Giggles!
There's a better Delos episode in the first 8 minutes than they've had in months.
Totally enjoy seeing the everyday “routine”! Really puts a person in the moment of what it’s kinda like without the sickness 😂
Yeah exactly! Although we’re getting really close to film and slightly capture the movement of the sea with that sense of seasickness, soon we will even get the smells come through your screen;)
@@WEsail watched Delos go thru the struggle bus couple passages ago… has always been a concern for me so I’ve just stayed to the inland lakes 🙄
Having sailed in big seas, I can tell when all one can see is sky.....and after a few m horizon, you are indeed in big seas # 😊💨💨🌊
Since Erika has French heritage, I think y’all can get residency. I’m not sure of the rules but sounds like heaven!
Yes this is true, we could get residency but for now the issue is importing the boat into the country. It’s pretty expensive for us and our newer boat so for now we will continue to see the rest of the world and then come back to this beautiful place!
So absolutely beautiful. So sad to see the reefs. Enjoy your videos very much. Thanks
Y'all are such a great couple. Thank you for sharing your travels. Peace!! 😊
Good/great video loved it
But the best bit was Seeing seerar wiping her hands and looking at the camera 😎how good are kids
"Do you know how to sail?" I had to laugh. My family has a Shibumi and I can't get my older sister to understand that the wind changes directions! Good luck and safe travels. ❤
Final scene at the restaurant Sierra looks like she's eyeing Warrens burger and wants to grab it for a bite.
RIGHT!!? Hands off lady!
Some of the best documentation of French Polynesia that has been done. Only the Picton Castle has videos of the Solomen's that show the culture further west . Maybe We Sail will document this even better.
Incredibly beautiful place!
It really is!
Boat hair, don't care! Damn Warren!
Haha nope, don’t care LOL
It was pretty fluffy! Hahah
Great Video......TY
That was really close to hitting the bottom.
Beautiful place.
Dang what do you all have on board? Your escape hatches were buried!
Love your episodes !
Got a question.
How long do you have to leave the islands to be able to renew or reset the 2 year boat in country rules ?
Leaving Tikehau soon for Moorea. Q: At which burger place did you end the video? There has been fabulous pizza here in Tikehau at Snack Kahaia, but we have been craving a decent burger. Another great video. Thank you.
Try and locate NIDO dry whole milk
It comes in large cans
How well did you sleep after that pizza carb load? That had to be good. Loved the sailing in this one. Hated to see the atoll go though.
Every guy chugs milk out of the carton 😁
THANK YOU!! Geez, what’s so wrong about that!!
@@WEsail it's efficient
This time ..the video did make the sea state look large...10'-12'?
Put money on you feeling better going with the wind and the waves then against. I live in Scotland you go out nice sunny day 15 knots on the beam. Go out 20 miles North Sea bit of fishing turn round to go back wind changes. What was a great day ends up beating into 30 nasty. That or next stop Norway.
5 foot blacktips cut into delicious steaks
😀😀👍👍❤❤
I know some men who spend a small fortune to achieve Warren's bedhead look. :)
Haha yep, very lucky!
How do you keep track of time and what time zone do you use as a reference?
Interesting question, as they continue west, they'll eventually cross the international date line and lose a day... the line is just before they'd reach New Zeeland. I'm not sure how long before they'll get that far, it's still probably 1200 or more miles away and a lot of small islands to visit on the way.
So is their time standard GMT?
Oh geez, to be honest we are always messing that one Lol
So true, still trying to wrap our heads around this…
$$$ comment Go allyrithum Go
You are too awesome for this! Trying to get a RUclipss attention to boost the channel:)
I am requesting asylum aboard Va! My toothbrush, shorts, T-shirt, and gold coins are at the ready! When I told my wife & asked if she wants to come, she said no, and told me she will miss me very much. :¬) Webhead USA
Does Erica want children?
