It’s great that there are so many different heights to choose from. Generally I wear the 11-13” boots, but I would like to try some taller boots sometime.
That’s how tall mine are
The once standard 13" height is good for me. I see some brands now cutting costs and reducing height to 12". 10" for Ropers is standard. Any height lower than 8" shouldn't qualify as a boot! Like taller vintage boots from Tony Lama & Olathe at 14" and Buckaroo boots at 16". They feel awesome.
I only buy 18” (from top of heel) buckaroos wore with jeans tucked in. Most have been custom made but a few Olathes (Kansas made) are still in the closet. Knee highs are best for riding, (think English boots) and look so good too.
To bad we don't wear our riding boots out normally 😢😊
Not a cowboy, but have always loved tall top boots of at least 15" but prefer boots with 18" or taller tops. Have a few pair exotic boots with 12" tops found at thrift shops or garage sales but don't wear them very often.
Thanks for the video. I enjoy learning all the terminology. Roper style is my favorite.
Love that you remain open to appreciate every individual may have their own preference. Very cool no judgements- thank JC!
I do like tall tops though I am not a working cowboy. They feel good (used to be a horseman) vet clients respond well to them, and I just think they look cool and tend to have a nice flashy look! Love your videos and if ever the chance would love to share a beer!
Enjoyed the presentation JC. I'm good with the standard 12 to 13" Cowboy boot, but like some roper's as well, with a narrower shaft opening. 👍
This was a great practical video (as they always are) that answered questions I've always had about the reasons for the different heights. My favorite height is in the 12-13-inch category.
A very informative video . I like tall boots even though I am not a working cowboy . They have always been my favorite choice as they were more popular back in the day . Anything 15 inches or taller is great with me .
I like the Roper style boots. I’ve been wearing the Ariat Sierra model for years. The ATS insole isn’t my favorite for hard surfaces but I work for a plant nursery and they are great for the soft flower beds, mulch, sod, turf, etc because of the tall heel. It’s an eleven inch shaft and they just work perfect for me. Thanks for all the content and cheers
I literally started to watch your videos to expand my tastes a little because the majority of my boots are 13 inch shaft, 1.5 inch under slung heal and R toe ( have a snip toe and a J toe now thanks to liking what you have shown me ) still havent changed my heel taste yet but I have gone more adventurous with colour after seeing some of your videos .( My boot maker did ask on the sudden increase in business, I said he should thank you for that . I still only have one pair of big company made boots and they are Chinese made Ariats as my shit kickers, the rubber sole and rough out leather work well for me plodding along the paddocks , even if they are no longer anything like the colour they started at ( the red clay here stains well damn near everything.)
Great video man! Love these cowboy boot variety style videos!
I have been thing of getting a pair of zip boots. All of my pair I have are 11" to 14" never had a pair taller. Thanks for the education.
I went down a cowboy boot rabbit hole and think I’m going to get either some Ariat Ropers or Hybrid Ranchers if I can’t find anything local to me. Your channel is very informative, thank you mate
I always like the 14"-16" cowboy boots. The 12" and lower, for me just not enough the "feeling wearing boots"😂
I love Ropers it’s not too short but stops exactly where I’d want them too
Plus you can still have a good looking stitch pattern
My pair of Tony Lama buckaroo boots are ~16-inch in height. [My everyday pair of Chippewa Trooper boots are 17-Inch.]
My sweet spot is the 12-13”. It definitely informative as usual.
Great video and I honestly had never thought about this.
Ropers for the win, in both heel and shaft height. Just perfect. Nothing fancy, look nice in dress or casual, and they get the job done.
My go to pair are the Justin Shawnee 13 inch shaft looks great with all jeans and all occasions
I am all vanilla. 13 inch top, 1 1/2 heel and medium round toe. I might go narrow square sometimes if i feel really exotic.
" Hello Jeremiah, this video is a good idea...I myself have cowboy boots whose height is often different but it comes from the height of the heels. I ordered a pair of cowboy boots real leather made in Mexico, to put on, which reach the ankle. On the internet, we find our pleasures of choice of cowboy boots! In general, the sellers are serious and they even make price reductions or recently I even had a gift offer for a pair brand Justin. Good video the expert in cowboy boots, always nice to follow you on RUclips. Long live the passion of cowboy boots! "
I am with you on the 12-13in height. Thats where all my boots are. I can't pull off slim or skinny fits for shorter boots and my calfs are far too thick for anything higher.
Myself I’m 6’5”, I like. 16” shafts or so called snake bite ! Luv the vids Jeremiah
True your height and calf length definitely is important in your boot selection. Sitting down in a pair that is too tall could definitely dig into the back of your knees and upper legs .
I recently purchased my first pair of cowboy boots, and they're just over the knee. I really had to condition them before wearing since they have to bend in the knee, but they're perfect!
I have some ropers but definitely prefer the 12-13” tall boots. Now if I could just pick a favorite toe shape…
I know toe shapes often keep me from buying another pair of boots because there are so many options and I can’t decide 😂😂🍻🍻.
Thanks for this video, Jeremiah!! I generally wear 13", yet will go with 16" for riding and to just have fun for the look at rodeos.
The 16 inch buckaroos are my favorite. I have super long legs and they look normal on me
Me too, did you have issues with shorter shafts being all loose on your leg because they are below your calf?
13 inch shaft, 1.5 inch under slung heal and snip toes are my favorite!
Tent to like 12-13" bit hace problems with some just because I have wide calves. Also best way to really tell the difference between a stockman and a roper boots is stockman boots tent to have more design on the shaft and have the toe bug, while ropers (most of the time) are pretty plain on thr shaft and don't hace a toe bug. Also stockman heels are just a little bit taller because they're more oriented towards being able to work in the saddle and off
My favorite boots have always been my roper styles, so 10s 11s, I just got a pair of twisted Xs and they are 12 inches, and I do like them quite a bit.
I've been really liking the 13"shafts on the AB lately
I bought my first pair of Roper boots and they're perfect for my skirts and dresses and leggings
I think the reason the bucket effect happens in ropers, and not cowboy boots, is because of the calves. I think at least. Cowboy boots come all the way up to one's calves, the shaft hugging tight. That means the jeans can slide down and past the opening since there's not enough space to bucket. The opening of the shaft and the calf are that close to each other.
Meanwhile with ropers, the opening is under the calf, meaning there is more space between the opening rim and the leg. That leads to jeans having an easier time making the bucket.
Yes exactly just commented something similar. My ankle is so long that even 12-13 inch shafts are hitting just below my calf so there isn’t that smooth transition.
I'm 6ft6, wearing 24" no mistaking for the Mrs to know the man is in the house or not, haha. Needed them after company/work accident, despite the fact I'm now an stapler manager instead of a blue color worker. 24" is stretching it in the city jungle. Especially finding cowboy cut jeans, and I mean REAL cowboy cut. That are wider from the knee down, instead of halfway the calf.
I’m a fan of the 12-13 inch because they fit just about everything I do
I typically wear a 12 or 13 inch tall boot so my jeans go over the tops nice, any taller is impractical for me. But i also usually wear boots with a cowboy heel and those usually have a slightly taller top than any roper or stockman style.
I usually wear my boulet 4002’s and the twisted x buckaroo boots I wear for hunting or outdoor usage
I’m 6’7” tall. I like tall tops. Most of my boots are 12-13”. I have one 14”
Love myYippee Ki Yay Old Gringo Women's Nikka 17” boots with tassels beautiful, great with a dress, shorts, skirt, leggings, really skinny jeans!
I only buy boots at least 11" shaft. If it's shorter than that, my pants get all caught up in the brush, etc. when I go in "4x4" mode. Plus I'm in water a lot, so a taller boot is better down at the creek.
I prefer the stove pipe top. The newer boots are the w top. They do thiis to save material. The stove pipe 13 inch riding boot is my dream boot
I like the tall tops unless needing a dressy boot
12-13 inches is the perfect height for me.
As tall or as short as you want tbh. I personally like the higher end of medium 13", though never tried a really tall pairs yet.
I have boots in all ranges from Chelsea to 17 inch Snake Boots and a pair of knee high officier calvary boots. I really don't have a favorite. The needs for a specific activity and to a certain extent the weather determines which boots I will wear.
Great video Jeremiah! I'm a fan of 13 inch shafts
My boot heights are all 12 inches and up. What really matters is the look of the boot riding outside of my Wranglers.
I had a pair of 13" Justin boots for driving limo and they were my fave.
I have a pair of 12" Tony Lama and for some reason, after wearing the 13" boots they feel short.
The bucket effect is caused by a difference in leg width and boot shaft width. I am very tall and even 12 inch boot shafts will not end around my calf. Without the smooth transition from calf to boot you can still get the bucket effect on taller shafts.
my best boot is the 16 or so boots for my way of dressing up or down ,even for church or anything because thats all i wear
I have 11 inch revolver work cowboy boots that I like. Wish they was 13 tho. I think the pants inside boots look right with Chinese or work pants..but not with jeans. My next boot will be the shorter historical emporium boot. They are made really well.
12-13" is all there is for me.
I had zip up boots when I was younger but they were non-Western boots. 12" shaft height for me is max.
I prefer 12-13 inch boots. I tried a 11 inch but I kept wanting to pull it up like a pair of socks. I would get used to it I’m sure. I’d love a pair of 12-13 inch boots with a roper heel.
Brother Jeremiah, I know I’m off topic but who’s the manufacturer for them alligator boot’s you’re wearing, they look amazing!!!!
I'm used to wear 12 to 13 inches tall boots, but I wear also a pair of 15 inches Fenoglio boots with elephant hide. Thats my "rain boots" 😉
Thanks for the video ! Since I have flat feet I would choose the roper boot to cut the grass here in florida in my 🩳
I have been wearing tall 14 ,16 boots since i was 17 years old now i am 74 yrs old and i will never wear anything else
I prefer a 14 or 15 inch top the most
All of my pairs are 12-14 but I wouldn’t mind a really short 6 inch pair
Ten inch boots are my go to.
12 to 13 inches is my go-to height.
Hello have you ever heard of Hometown cowboy boots? And what do you think of them?
Can I please get tips because I have like three pairs of cowboy boots and love them but I'm skinny so its hard to where them cause you can see them through my pants even with boot cut so should I try a 11 to 13 Hight or smaller or like what should I do cause it don't look that good when i wear them.
I'm new to boots I like ropers 11 inch
Really like the 13” height of Anderson Bean.
13 inch , perfect
I like tall boots 13" or taller. I wear size 15 so taller looks better.
Great info in this newest video, I prefer taller boots such as 16"+ , but I do were a Chelsea boot to run out the mail box because they are easy on & easy off. On another note, in my spam email I received an email supposedly from you & a phone # about adding a second entry for the twisted X boot give away. Is this real or some clown pretending to be you? Thanks. GBB.
I personally like a max height of 11” but have boots up to 13. I find I’m mainly in an office so having anything taller isn’t practical
I prefer my subtle short boots with zippers... easy-on-easy-off.
12 inch is the best for me
I just bought some ropers, so I wanted to know if any one has some suggestions for jeans that’ll work with them and not have the bucket effect?
I wear ariat M4’s with my ropers
Best is 12-13 inches i have 15 inches but no practical in life 😢 then i bought 12 inches harley davidson harness boots
The 10-11 roper boots are for horseback riding and walking. Wear them over your pants.
most of mine are 11-13"
1 inch is perfect
13
11-14" im okay with
My favorite height is the shortest the better
12/13 Tall
My tallest are 13”
The medium height is better when carrying a concealed pistol.
Like in your boot?
11" Boots but that's not cowboy it's a biker boots and I I'm still trying find some taller boots😊
What kind of boots were the ones you showed as an example of "pee wee" boots?
Heritage Boot Company
@@JeremiahCraig thank you sir. You're a gentleman and a scholar. I really appreciate what you do
While I have your ear, which directing do you go when sizing ariat wide square toes when compared to their roper or r toes? Do you go up 1/2 size, or down, or keep them the sand size as your round toe?
Thanks for the help
13 or taller.
The taller the better, of course..!
Even moreso since it irritates the women... :-)
Or wearing proper jeans
Boot cut.
I guess skinny jeans are a millennial thing. 😅
Pretty sure the tall 16+ boots are so you don’t need to use chaps or you Can use chinks which are smaller chaps
