From an engineering perspective changing the orientation of the fiber lay up will give you strength in different directions. This is often referred to as the lay up "schedule". Often parts will be made with uni-directional carbon if it needs to be strong in only one direction. It is very common for high strength parts to have 4+ layers where each layer is at 0degrees, 45deg, 90deg, etc. Then you get into all kinds of neat stuff like nomex honeycomb in between layers for very light yet strong parts.
I know most of us love how carbon looks, but there are a lot of structural considerations when a part is expected to sustain a load.
Love the channel!
I can’t thank you enough for this. It’s like finding out how magic tricks are done.
That's a handy tip and a good example of what the seam looks like if you make one.
That finish off the mirror was amazing straight off the bat
Stumbled on your channel and watched the e46 hood being made, as it’s going I find myself asking, “hmmmm two sections for the hood, I wonder how he connects them?🧐” and the next video up is answering just that. And now I am a subscriber, awesome channel, thank you!
Yup I had exactly the same question... only I got these served up back to back.
first time seeing the use of a mirror as a backing for vacuum infusion what a good idea.
man this channel is awasome, this guy definately deserves millions of floow in his channel. thanks a lot.
Thanks for the detailed information. A lot of talent involved in making those hoods. 👍
Thanks for making the techniques seem a lot less complicated and easier to accomplish with practice.
Unbelievable work. You have gained a new fan. Your work is inspiring.
Man i love that vest, thats a great idea!!!
that is a real pro tip 👌👀. Thanks men
exactly what i needed
This video just answered alot of questions! Keen to make a bonnet for my racecar. Thing that worries me most is the heat from the motor. Do u use high temp epoxy or is the post cure more important?
Out here with iron sights doing the lords work if you find yourself in alabama I owe ya one godbless
great video, good insight and tips. i like all your videos, not a lot of useless info...much appreciated
Dude, that vest ❣
Dude that magnetic vest is badass
I am considering overlaying my 57 corvette with carbon fiber. The area around the single headlight and grill oval is concerning. Youre work is amazing, any suggestions?
Your vest is awesome 😍
Can you feel the overlap line with your finger? How big is the difference in millimeters pls? And in the end product will be it be a fine transition if you sand it and coat it? Thanks.
You are very ingenius AJ. 👍👍
Great tip, thanks for sharing!
Hi, What is the best adhesive to use to bond carbon fiber to leather? I have a carbon fiber interior car pars that I want to install. Double sided 3M tape does not stick at all. I was thinking I need to "glue" them on. Not sure what the best method is to use.
greetings friend and excellent explanation I ask you how you calculate the drying time of the resin so that it does not dry when you make the transfer, greetings from Venezuela
Since I'm learning, where can I buy the equipment
I was wondering if the 3M spay adhesive were spayed on the mold, does it show up in finish of the final part?
Hey Man, nice videos, very informative. How did you learn all these skills? Did you go to some tech college for this?
Just figure stuff out on my own over time.
Excellent tutorial. No tell us what clear gel you're using. Lol Duratech, Lilly-ram???
To questions .
1. What is the name of the cutting tools you use.
2. What is the material on top of your bench and under the carbon you are cutting. Thanks
Спасибо Мастер!
hi sir, what do you call the spray can you for the cf to stick? 3:32. i hear spraytech but i dont know if its the right spelling, do you have link on where i can buy that? thank you so much.
Super ton idée....résultat extraordinaire. 😃
Hello, thank you for the videos. I am trying to skin a steering wheel with carbon and I am really struggling with connecting the fabric at the back. Could you please show a way to do it. Thank you again.
spray adhesive to hold the edges back mate
cool trick
Won’t you see/feel the overlap from the other side?
Hi,what material would you recommend for making a cheap splitter between plywood and pvc, which is better? Thanks!
Awesome!
Is spiral wrap not needed on such a small infusion? Just the flow mesh and peel ply?
Sup man! Hey can you send us link where we can find veil roll? I search like every web corder and i dont fond any roll. Thx in avance ✌️👍
For someone new to building carbon parts, who is a good supplier to buy supplies through? I recently damaged my hood on my off road race samurai and I want to get into making carbon parts. Great videos!
Easycomposite
I really like what You do, but I must ask You about the used fibreglass veil - where You got this or at least what is the grammage of it - I found only 15g/m2 but I think it's too thick for my application. Yours looks a lot thinner
Very interesting. I never knew that stuff existed. My first theory on how to do it would have just involve packaging tape the same way youve used that stuff. Reckon it may work in a similar way?
Not even close. Don’t use packaging tape.
Is there any way I can buy a 2’x3’ sheet of carbon fiber with the v weave in the center from you? Thx
Thank you for the information. I'm going to sleep my shelby gt350r market just to hot and I would like th o buy a house with 10 acre a shop and pond
Very informative video! Where can I buy fiberglass veil? I’ve looked all over and can’t seem to find it, thanks.
I also would like to know where to buy the veil. Cant find it anywhere.
Where do you source the veil from? Google is bringing back large sheets only :/
would you know if you can join a \\\\ pattern to a === pattern, where one is turned 45 degrees? getting me thinking of a ghosting image of carbon fiber.
I don’t see why not.
Never knew this was how it was done and had been bugging me for a while .
Having worked with plenty of dry carbon and infusions I would definitely not bother trying to do any fancy seam down the centre of a bonnet , definitely not worth the time , effort and scrap ratio .
Well done for your efforts, I’ll just stick to race car stuff that’s painted .
its called fiber glass belt or bell?
Neither. It’s “veil”.
@@ajhartmanaero thanks alot
@@ajhartmanaero what is been used for between layers ?can i use in prepreg where sem joint
Great work!!😃 Where did you get the thin fiberglass?
do you find it?
fiberglass veil, i found it
@@w.w.2007great! Where?😁
Can you joining two peace’s of carbon fiber with out having a seam line show visible?
Maybe with pre preg or if you were extremely lucky with a butt joint, then maybe it would hide a tiny bit better.
Can you make a video about comparing polyester infusion resin to epoxy infusion resin ?
I’m new to composite and wonder if epoxy is worth it.
Great video btw, enjoyed it.
I don’t use it so wouldn’t be worth buying some just to do a video.
@@ajhartmanaero so you are using polyester?
@@compspace no
Where do you get your sheets of CF from?
Hello. should the mirror be waxed?
It needs some sort of release
Can you feel a ridge where the matt overlaps
No
Can anyone tell me what the metal stand is called that’s used to rest the mirror on, looking to buy one but no idea where to look?
Look for a "sawhorse"
@@sinfulldoubt perfect thank you
Do you buy your carbon from composite envisions?
Some consumables I do, but not carbon.
@@ajhartmanaero Their carbon is just too expensive! Although I have to admit, it is the best quality that I've tried.
When you say 'several hours in the oven'. Is it just a cupboard with a fan heater? And what temperature does it get up to roughly and how long. I've seen that in a few if hour videos. I LOVE your content by the way
Whatever epoxy you use will specify time and temps to use.
@@ajhartmanaero I fully get that but is that just a heat fan in a cupboard. Genuinely hoping you say yes. I've never had the confidence to heat up any of my molds because I don't want to spend money I don't have on the oven even tho they don't go that hot
how did you release the surface?
With a release agent.
@@ajhartmanaero
The surface Is really clean, there seem to be no signs of, it have to be a really good product
Have you seen the "it costs that much" tiktok?
No
I just sent it to you via Facebook. That song always plays in my head when I see your work
I like this look Iv a Mazda rx8 bonnet which has a indent shape in the middle so want to do it like this just as skinning Can I do base coat then one side lay down from the middle to the edge then butt up the other side so it looks flat
oh yes!!! defo what i wanted to try but didn't know how! thanks
Have you ever considered building an experimental aircraft like a Rutan Long-EZ, or a Cozy MKIV? They are usually built with wet layup, but I think it would be super cool to try and infuse one.
Super video i was trh same thing but i had problém with fabric, Can i ask about shop where order or what typ did you use there ?
Muchas gracias. Muchos éxitos. Abrazos desde Argentina
why not sprayglue on the weave only and then cut?
Try working with material with only spray glue and let me know how it goes.
@@ajhartmanaero i make it and i tell you :D
