I think the whole process of the movie where the girl pops from nowhere is the main lead's subconsciousness. The repeated blackout is her losing her mind and making the movie according to her instincts. Her trying to kill the kid is her form of revolt to being consumed of her insanity, but she failed. At the end, she entered the box, which means she boxed her sanity.
Ella's mother said that she's just a puppet and when the show is over ,the puppet is placed back into the box! Ella was a puppet of her own mental disorder! I guess

She literally puts herself back in the box at the end of a horrific production. I’m glad I followed my gut and didn’t watch this movie, it would’ve gutted me.

This had genuine potential to be a good horror movie. I love the idea of actual stop motion puppets coming to life and I personally can relate to having a controlling mother. But this needed a better writer. I don’t think the ghost girl was necessary at all and the 3rd act is just stupid. Should’ve gotten Phil tippit involved!
Well as an artist, id like to correct a few things here. 'Bringing life to a dead thing, give a life'. Id like to say its a 'motion pictures' / computing. The ideas of an artist who played God by bringing life to a character whom they draw on paper is a bit overexcessive.
