This removal process is similar on bmw 540i and bmw 740i models. This belt is overlooked many times and results in more costs if not caught in time.

Please note this is the difficult version. The easiest way to remove and install the belt is to place a 50m Star ratchet in the tension pulley. DO you see the arrow on the "star" bolt? means push down. The shock piston on the pully tensioner compresses and off comes the belt....this process only takes 2 minutes. No need to loosen any nuts at all.....again just compress the piston by pushing the tensioner down...super easy...ALL and ALL enjoy the breakdown of the video
As we always state in our videos, there are many different ways to remove some parts and so is the case with this part. Thank you for sharing your experience.
What is 50m sir ? Do you mean 50 mm torx star bit ?
this guy almost NEVER goes wrong really..., I will look if you have vid on water pump pulley, great vid !
Thank you for your feedback. Please share our channel to whoever you think it might benefit from it.
your belt could be causing noise but won't prevent AC compressor from working. If you Blower is not blowing cold air into your interior car, then it could be that your blower is out or a fuse. Many problems can lead to AC issues.
Thanks was working on my car today your videos help alot
perfect illustration. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for your video bro. I was having a hard time reinstalling the Drive/alternator/power steering belt after replacing one of the idle pulleys. Your video explained how to release and retighten the idler. You're the man!!!!!
I know what you mean. The belt has to go a certain way otherwise it wont tigthen properly. Glad our video could help.
How do you change the serpentine belt and tensioner on the alternator side; of this exact engine e39 540i? I would love to see a video on the entire procedure. Thanks for sharing.

Do you have a video for the drive belt replacement for E39 540i?
Thanks for sharing.. it was very helpful.
are the bolts on both ends of the tensioner shock loose pivot points or are they tight. It seems that they should be loose so they pivot.
And what about the belt that's in front of the AC belt? we can see on the right pulley that there's a place for another belt.

Hello, please tell me how much pressure do you put on the main belt tensioner (pump, pulley, generator)? if I pull hard, an unpleasant knock appears, bmw m62, I loosen everything well..

A/C Tensioner
I have two pullies touching, what do I do about that?
+Amy Fenton Your tensioner might be faulty, replace and problem should go away
You say it's easy, YES, but as soon as you removed bumper, radiator and headlights lol.
So first take the entire front end off of the car; you failed to mention that small point.
Son
You don't need to do that, son.
