India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that India would have given Pakistan more financial aid than the IMF, if Islamabad had maintained friendly relations with New Delhi. Pakistan has announced the elimination of 150,000 government jobs and the closure of six ministries as part of reforms tied to a $7 billion IMF loan. These measures are aimed at reducing administrative costs and increasing Pakistan’s tax-to-GDP ratio. The IMF has released over $1 billion as the first tranche, and Pakistan is implementing new taxes on non-traditional sectors like agriculture and real estate.
