  • Snowboarding | Alpe d'Huez | 360 Audio | Listen with Headphones!
    I've been working on incorporating true binaural audio into my snowboarding videos. Combating high wind speeds whilst riding has made this very difficult, but after a few prototypes I've come up with something that I think works well. Listen with headphones to get the full experience.
    This is the first installment of my Mindsurf Monday series, I know its not a Monday, but I was too keen to get a video out! Resorts here are still shut so I had to walk up, guess how long it took me in the comments down below. Closest answer wins a prize!
    If you would like to have snowboard lessons with me here in Alpe d'Huez, France, then take a look at my website below to find out more:

  • @jonas9451
    @jonas9451 3 года назад +12

    Alright, i'll try to do the math for this but i'm probably gonna be wrong :)
    In the beginning, your max. vertical elevation is 2784 meters. at the bottom you are around 1780 meters which means you climbed approx. 1004 meters. Let's say the average hiker climbs around 2 miles per hour. Since you are climbing quite steeply with gear and on snow, I will reduce this to around 1.25 miles per hour which equals = 0.5588 meters per second.
    Since time = distance / speed --> 1004/0.5588 = 1,796.7072297781 seconds
    Seconds converted to hours = 3.2768631193828055004 which is approx. = 3 hours, 16 minutes and 37 seconds.
    I am probably wrong and did not take into account other factors such as break times so it would probably be around 3 hours and 30 minutes or longer :))

    • @jonas9451
      @jonas9451 3 года назад +4

      Ngl horizontal distance also matters so I have no idea xD + it seems you reached the top when the sun is setting making it seem like it took longer than what I estimated haha

    Video starts at 2,784 m of elevation, ends at 1,779 m, so almost exactly 1,000 m of elevation gain. The run had several flat sections, which makes it pretty long - but then again, you may have taken shortcuts on the way up. Factor in the heavy snowboard boots and the board on your back... I'll say 3 hours, 42 minutes.

      +18 and -12, but I'm not on the warpig here, I'm on a new board, the link is up in the description! 👍

    Yes Malcolm playground all to yourself 🥳💯🙌 Impressed by all the maths calculations going on , I am no good at maths going to base it on how long it takes to hike up there in the summer and gamble that there is a more direct albeit steeper route in winter 2h 58min ⛄️

    WHEN you speed up do you use the edges of the board is completely flat? when I go flat I feel like unstable

    • @malcolmmoore
      @malcolmmoore  3 года назад

      Usually on an edge depending on the camber (tilt) of the slope, but sometimes I will ride the board completely flat. In this video here I'm mostly always on an edge!

    Hey Malcolm, are you still using the noir matter quark stabilizer? Curious to hear some long term use feedback.

    • @malcolmmoore
      @malcolmmoore  3 года назад +1

      Yeah sometimes but only with the hero 8, the hero 9 has horizon levelling when recording in linear mode, or when recording in superview with the max lens mod which kind of makes it redundant. Unless you need horizon levelling for wide mode then you dont really need it. Plus the customer support was pants so I don't want to promote them!

      @@malcolmmoore dude, I keep hearing customer service horror stories, I guess I just needed confirmation from a fellow snowboarder lol. It’s too bad, really. Was hoping for a wearable gimbal to use with my el grande pole. I’ve got the 9 with some ND Filters and would like to have a bit more control with exposure, using the 180 degree shutter rule. Though low shutter renders hypersmooth useless :/

    Nice work dude how much concentration does it need to be safe. It's like both eyes has to be focused at the same time in one direction and watch the height.

      On empty slopes like this you can relax a bit more, but when the lifts are running you have to pay alot more attention to everyone!
