SpaceX reveals NEW Alpha Moonbase SHOCKED NASA! Musk declared...
Elon Musk's SpaceX, the aerospace company, is currently at its prime with Falcon and Starship.
But they never stop and will continue to do many things that no other organization in the space race can do.
Recently, the SpaceX tycoon announced its plans to build its own space base on the Moon.
SpaceX reveals NEW Alpha Moonbase SHOCKED NASA! Musk declared...This revelation has shocked NASA as well as Russia and China, as SpaceX aims to establish its lunar outpost using a fleet of Starship HLS spacecraft.
Let’s find out on today’s episode of Alpha Tech:
    Elon Musk's ambition
SpaceX reveals NEW Alpha Moonbase SHOCKED NASA! Musk declared...Starship is a dream in development. Recently, it completed its third test flight, during which the spacecraft successfully took off and correctly separated from its first stage. Although the spacecraft and the booster that propelled it to orbital speed were lost, the mission achieved its goal, and the engineers behind the feat managed to gather enough information to further improve it.

As far as I know, the deltaV-capacity of a completely refilled starship in LEO is around 7 km/s, but from LEO to the Lunar surface we need 6 km/s and the same amount of deltaV back to LEO. Maybe the payload needs to be reduced dramatically. But I see a problem as long as it is not possible to produce hydrogen fuel from water resources on the Moon

They should look into landing Starship horizontally like Space 1999. No need to turn it horizontal, more stable, no need for complex elevators…
    Vertical landing makes no sense.

    • @montyharder3663

      @pedrosura 5 месяцев назад

@@montyharder3663 They plan to lay the vehicle horizontally later on. Also, they would t need that elevator and it would definitely be more stable and easier landing.
We shall see. I dont think they have given it a lot of thought. When they start simulating landings and putting it all together, they may change their minds. What they are doing makes no sense to me.

    • @montyharder3663
      @montyharder3663 5 месяцев назад

@@pedrosura I think there are going to be at least 2 different models of Lunar Lander Starships. One will be designed to stay upright and be used to take off and go at least as far as Gateway. The second will be designed for conversion into a long-term habitat.
Some variants of either class may be cargo-only, so they don't need environmental systems, but it may be decided to install, but not activate those systems for the cargo mission, but keep them available for a later mission. I can see the argument for choosing which Starships to convert to habitats based on damage they'd accrued, rather than deciding a priori which are to be used in each way. (If one ship has a couple of bad engines, strip the good engines off it and turn it into a habitat.)
There definitely needs to be a lot of "gaming out" the different scenarios, before anything actually gets built.

  • @garylester3976

Glad to hear they are starting to work on moon base concepts.
One Idea I just recieved from the either, was building a lunar lander starship variant with the tanks as three external pods, equally sized, one hydrogen, two oxy, then the high Goddard cofiguration engines between them. This would allow having landing gear on outside of the three fuel pods, and having the cargo area of the central vertical ship hull close enough to the lunar surface to use a ramp for the cargo.
Then you could have your cargo elevator inside the ship between decks.
This would create a tip over proof design, and be way more practical than the tall configuration with the outside elevator.
Also the tanks and engines could be pinned onto the hull, for easy removal, or seperate launch back into lunar orbit to be reused as a lander for another hull. which could be a habitat, or tankage, or troop carrier module. This way you could bring stuff from Earth and get into lunar orbit, then get it to the lunar surface using two different systems. one an Earth orbit sub tank and engines, and second a lunar specialized. then you wouldnt need to transfer engines etc back and forth, just use a minimal engine system to exchange orbits. perhaps even with several hulls racked together for each trip, and using minimal thrust, and more time, on non perishable loads.
This would allow designing a system that was a standard diameter tube that any module type could fit into. and that pinned onto Earth lifter and into lunar lander/lifter module.
Translation: more efficient better designed system that leaves more of what you want on the Moon, and reuses the parts you dont need on the moon, or they could be repuposed via a shorty pod to fit into lander ring, to make lunar hoppers and lifters to orbit that were smaller as most cargo will be one way for the foreseeable future.
So, your Earth launcher stage goes under the hull, your lunar lander and orbiter stage goes around the hull.
I would recommend the standard diameter be an even ten meters, thats a nice size space in a round structure. like a very large Yurt for each deck.
Also another thought, instead of a crane to lay ships on their sides, perhaps consider using penetrator explosives to create a crater, and using the three tank lander to lower the pods into the crater. then take off the lander orbiter, back fill the crater, and for what sticks up, use clip togerher sheet metal rings to create a stepped tier system back filled with regolith. they could be filled by slinging regolith at the ship...
End result a stepped round pyramid shape that shielded the habitat pod, and stabilized it further.
And get away from living in round tanks on their side, and into large diameter Yurt like spaces with flat floors or decks and vertical wall or bulkheads.
Would help immensely with troop morale.
Also the elevator between decks could be centered and be a backup airlock... this way you could get past un pressurized decks.
As cargo areas better left hard vacuum to prevent stowaway vermin.
Way nicer system, upper decks could have nice views, lower decks very protected, way better cargo handling, and not shipping crap back and forth as much.
And these upright structures could be connected together via side hatches at surface level burried.
Way more pleasant living.. suggest the designer nerds try living in old tanks laid on their sides to promote reality based thinking...

      @@mick813 Yeah...Moon-"BASE"
I grew up on bases, they always have "Troops". and they always have Troop Carriers, to transport the guys... Everything from Aircraft to 4X4 school busses to get guys out into the field and back.
In space, ours at least are called: "Guardians", when Space Force was a Pup, they asked for a name for their "Troops" online....
      I suggested:
      "Outer Guardians"
'May still win that one when they have to differentiate between Earth based, and Space or Moon Based Guardians...
What I envision with the ring lander with three tanks is a re usable unit, that can carry a round tube into or out of Lunar or Mar's gravity well.
And basically set it down on its end. and the lander take off without it, or land around it, grab and lift.
That lander could also carry a boring machine, and set down with it, and dig Lunar post holes...
And then you could set the tube/pod habitats into the hole and kick the berm in around them. would allow solving the radiation and temperature extremes problem via Lunith or Marth sheltering...
And if you got the part about the central elevator shaft, if the elevator was windowed top and bottom, that shaft would create an atrium effect when the ships became habitat... You could even have a reflective hood that clocked and gave you light and heat control during the day.
So yeah! why not have a troop carrier pod that fits into the ringed "can lander"? So you can handle all kinds of stuff on the 10 meter diameter... Thats roughly 33 ft, which is a large nice Yurt per floor, would be enough space for a couple with kids...
I've over wintered several years in a 22 ft yurt and it was ample for two adults and two kids... so adding 11 ft would seem absolutely spacious... and if you had ten ft cielings, you could have ten levels per 100 feet.... that would be a quick appartment complex for Mars Family Robinson types...
Way better than those concepts using dry mud bricks to build habitat or using ice.... Also some chance of water table below the habitats that could be tapped into. and could be connected to each other by burried passage ways etc.
And until Mars has more atmosphere, is warmer, and has a magnetosphere, yer gonna wanna be snug underground, and not on the surface with Meteors plastering the place, and fragments flying miles in the thin air and low gravity..
      Just sayin'

If the HLS Starships land using the midship gas thrusters the 6 raptors should be removed at the Gateway and sent back for recycling.
How do they lower the HLS onto it's side, this seems poorly thought out. I propose the development of a boring company drill module that could be installed into the base when the raptors are removed at Gateway, this drill can also be methane powered, the ship could then bury itself into the surface with only the nose cone above the surface.
If the module can disconnect from the ship, it could then work as a mole digging tunnels under the lunar surface.

I imagine using 4 guy wires, attached directly above each landing gear, extended to winches anchored to the surface. On the side to be lowered, retract the landing gear. The weight of the Starship should start it tipping over, and the wires on the descending side are just used to keep it centered as the winches slowly play out the wires and lower the Starship.
The same winches and wires can be used multiple times for each Starship to be lowered this way.
