SpaceX reveals NEW Alpha Moonbase SHOCKED NASA! Musk declared...
Elon Musk's SpaceX, the aerospace company, is currently at its prime with Falcon and Starship.
But they never stop and will continue to do many things that no other organization in the space race can do.
Recently, the SpaceX tycoon announced its plans to build its own space base on the Moon.
SpaceX reveals NEW Alpha Moonbase SHOCKED NASA! Musk declared...This revelation has shocked NASA as well as Russia and China, as SpaceX aims to establish its lunar outpost using a fleet of Starship HLS spacecraft.
Let’s find out on today’s episode of Alpha Tech:
Elon Musk's ambition
SpaceX reveals NEW Alpha Moonbase SHOCKED NASA! Musk declared...Starship is a dream in development. Recently, it completed its third test flight, during which the spacecraft successfully took off and correctly separated from its first stage. Although the spacecraft and the booster that propelled it to orbital speed were lost, the mission achieved its goal, and the engineers behind the feat managed to gather enough information to further improve it.

I'm 71 and I remember JFK's speech. That was when I caught the Dream. I'd be willing to go and work on Luna Alpha Base One.
Thought it was alpha kingdom
Right! Who needs NASA to build a moon base when SpaceX can build one better, faster, and cheaper! Go SpaceX!
Who's NASA ???
@@gman7777 Hee-hee! Right!
I'm wondering about the 4 legged landing supports. Unless the landing zone is completely flat, it'll likely be tippy. 3 legs is stable regardless of flatness.
Alfa Moonbase sounds like a really good idea! NASA always has a problem of being funded then defunded So you'll never know if their moon base idea will ever come to fruition. Private companies seem like the most logical way of ever getting this accomplished.
Lord trump fixed that with . Space force. Another branch of the military.
How much have “private companies” put into the $150 billion dollar space station?

Thank you for the reminder we will fix it
No need
It’s the click bait I don’t blame people trying to get clicks it’s how they pay the bills , but I understand the frustration
Don't send the raptor engines back to earth, use them later on to build a 'lunar hopper' better known as Eagle :)
The Eagle design of the "Space 1999" and the moon hopper of the "UFO series" were very practical as the low centre of gravity of both Gerry Anderson designs allowed landing in very rough terrain unlike the recent Nasa and Japanese moon landers.😁
Cool someone with a brain. How did you make it through.
Also can't wait for elan putting starlinks in Trans lunar orbits .
4:32 Something tells me either the writer or the voice person (if real) has not heard of the Gerry Anderson series Space: 1999.
Excellent SpaceX 💫💫🚀🚀♥️♥️
Go SpaceX ! 👍👍
Is the diameter of the starship the same as the Boring company driller ? asking for a friend....
Return a rocket engine ? To earth ? To reuse ? No way ! You know what a gallon of fuel goes for on the moon ? Well , me either but it’s more than a second hand rocket engines .
I still don't like that big elevator idea. They are going to get stuck outside their ship.
I know it's a really cool idea and all but space is scary af.
Right!? Why would anyone want to leave home? Imagine having to explain to your kids why they can’t go outside..
How does the starship get on its side for the moon base?
How do they send raptors and other things back to earth if all the moon starships are oneway?
How to they refuel a starship to go back to earth without methane?
Once Starship hls can go to the moon, it means other Starships can too. The refueling method will be a key to whether the ship has enough fuel to get from the moon back to earth!
Recent moon lander history proves that they will just naturally tip over onto their side! 😮😅
does lunar starship have enough delta-V capacity to get from LEO to the Lunar surface and from there back to LEO ? As far as I know, the deltaV-capacity of a completely refilled starship in LEO is around 7 km/s, but from LEO to the Lunar surface we need 6 km/s and the same amount of deltaV back to LEO. Maybe the payload needs to be reduced dramatically. But I see a problem as long as it is not possible to produce hydrogen fuel from water resources on the Moon
They should look into landing Starship horizontally like Space 1999. No need to turn it horizontal, more stable, no need for complex elevators…
Vertical landing makes no sense.
That would require designing it with some engines that aren't used for anything other than landing, which Musk probably isn't going to do.
@@montyharder3663 They plan to lay the vehicle horizontally later on. Also, they would t need that elevator and it would definitely be more stable and easier landing.
We shall see. I dont think they have given it a lot of thought. When they start simulating landings and putting it all together, they may change their minds. What they are doing makes no sense to me.
@@pedrosura I think there are going to be at least 2 different models of Lunar Lander Starships. One will be designed to stay upright and be used to take off and go at least as far as Gateway. The second will be designed for conversion into a long-term habitat.
Some variants of either class may be cargo-only, so they don't need environmental systems, but it may be decided to install, but not activate those systems for the cargo mission, but keep them available for a later mission. I can see the argument for choosing which Starships to convert to habitats based on damage they'd accrued, rather than deciding a priori which are to be used in each way. (If one ship has a couple of bad engines, strip the good engines off it and turn it into a habitat.)
There definitely needs to be a lot of "gaming out" the different scenarios, before anything actually gets built.
@@montyharder3663 do you see any benefit to landing vertically on the moon with such a long vehicle?
Well, the "good news" is that at least a few of these will fall over horizontal anyway!
The whole concept is so flawed it isn't even funny anymore!! Musk has tapped into sci-fi movies made before we even put a human into space!! It's 99% fantasy and napkin sketches! I seriously doubt that he will ever pull off the Airtimes 3 mission! Based on where things stand, I think the odds are extremely low that it will happen!
I have said from the beginning that SpaceX needs to make the SpaceX Bar and Grill Lunar location then throw welcome to the moon parties for everyone that comes after them
Wow it's interesting!
They skimmed over the part about nitrogen. Is that coming from Earth or had a lunar source been identified?
Fun idea to dram about. But nothing in this "planning" addresses the power and life support systems needed for sustained living on the moon. And where are the construction guys doing all of the "repurposing" of the sideways startup?
Big Question: When the first 3 Starships crash on impact, *_will there be a fireball in the vacuum of space?_*
We've had great results here on Earth, but the Moon has no atmosphere and 1/8th the gravity.
Yeah, it will be like an explosion in space. A fast flash followed by a fireball and debris. Most of whats happening during the explosion, you wouldn't even be able to register to your brain unless your watching a video in slow motion. This is if the crash does explode however, it could be avoided by emptying the fuel tank or decreasing the speed of the fall.
My guess, no fire.
The moon has no gravity 😊 and the atmosphere is very cold 😊
Can you elaborate on the planned phases for construction and the types of equipment needed?
Who do you think you are texting to, wrong channel for that.
Why send engines back to earth when you could keep them for spare parts
Or REPURPOSE them as a cone of silence. For private conversations, until you press that button over there.
They probably already thought of this but ...
Perhaps put one (or two or three) long steel *sleeves over the entire length* of the StarShip,
not for heat shielding but to be removed on the Moon surface for extra building structures, telescoping beyond the basic StarShip inside.
_Project Name: Elongate_
I love it. Excellent name and great homage to Gerry Anderson. RIP
Perhaps attached balloons could be used to safely lower the Lunar ship horizontal. Retro booster to tilt over the ship,
then deflate the balloons until it's flat.
However ballons wouldn’t work on the the Moon as there is no atmosphere to hold the ballon.
@@laurids_dk7813 I mean use them like beach balls wrapped around the ship to cushion. Like the Mars probe.
@@2150dalek oh Ok
Makes sense
Yes that would be a great solution
Similar to how the Egyptians used sand to tip things?
Definitely worth exploring your balloon idea.
Glad to hear they are starting to work on moon base concepts.
One Idea I just recieved from the either, was building a lunar lander starship variant with the tanks as three external pods, equally sized, one hydrogen, two oxy, then the high Goddard cofiguration engines between them. This would allow having landing gear on outside of the three fuel pods, and having the cargo area of the central vertical ship hull close enough to the lunar surface to use a ramp for the cargo.
Then you could have your cargo elevator inside the ship between decks.
This would create a tip over proof design, and be way more practical than the tall configuration with the outside elevator.
Also the tanks and engines could be pinned onto the hull, for easy removal, or seperate launch back into lunar orbit to be reused as a lander for another hull. which could be a habitat, or tankage, or troop carrier module. This way you could bring stuff from Earth and get into lunar orbit, then get it to the lunar surface using two different systems. one an Earth orbit sub tank and engines, and second a lunar specialized. then you wouldnt need to transfer engines etc back and forth, just use a minimal engine system to exchange orbits. perhaps even with several hulls racked together for each trip, and using minimal thrust, and more time, on non perishable loads.
This would allow designing a system that was a standard diameter tube that any module type could fit into. and that pinned onto Earth lifter and into lunar lander/lifter module.
Translation: more efficient better designed system that leaves more of what you want on the Moon, and reuses the parts you dont need on the moon, or they could be repuposed via a shorty pod to fit into lander ring, to make lunar hoppers and lifters to orbit that were smaller as most cargo will be one way for the foreseeable future.
So, your Earth launcher stage goes under the hull, your lunar lander and orbiter stage goes around the hull.
I would recommend the standard diameter be an even ten meters, thats a nice size space in a round structure. like a very large Yurt for each deck.
Also another thought, instead of a crane to lay ships on their sides, perhaps consider using penetrator explosives to create a crater, and using the three tank lander to lower the pods into the crater. then take off the lander orbiter, back fill the crater, and for what sticks up, use clip togerher sheet metal rings to create a stepped tier system back filled with regolith. they could be filled by slinging regolith at the ship...
End result a stepped round pyramid shape that shielded the habitat pod, and stabilized it further.
And get away from living in round tanks on their side, and into large diameter Yurt like spaces with flat floors or decks and vertical wall or bulkheads.
Would help immensely with troop morale.
Also the elevator between decks could be centered and be a backup airlock... this way you could get past un pressurized decks.
As cargo areas better left hard vacuum to prevent stowaway vermin.
Way nicer system, upper decks could have nice views, lower decks very protected, way better cargo handling, and not shipping crap back and forth as much.
And these upright structures could be connected together via side hatches at surface level burried.
Way more pleasant living.. suggest the designer nerds try living in old tanks laid on their sides to promote reality based thinking...
Troop carrier ?
@@mick813 Yeah...Moon-"BASE"
I grew up on bases, they always have "Troops". and they always have Troop Carriers, to transport the guys... Everything from Aircraft to 4X4 school busses to get guys out into the field and back.
In space, ours at least are called: "Guardians", when Space Force was a Pup, they asked for a name for their "Troops" online....
I suggested:
"Outer Guardians"
'May still win that one when they have to differentiate between Earth based, and Space or Moon Based Guardians...
What I envision with the ring lander with three tanks is a re usable unit, that can carry a round tube into or out of Lunar or Mar's gravity well.
And basically set it down on its end. and the lander take off without it, or land around it, grab and lift.
That lander could also carry a boring machine, and set down with it, and dig Lunar post holes...
And then you could set the tube/pod habitats into the hole and kick the berm in around them. would allow solving the radiation and temperature extremes problem via Lunith or Marth sheltering...
And if you got the part about the central elevator shaft, if the elevator was windowed top and bottom, that shaft would create an atrium effect when the ships became habitat... You could even have a reflective hood that clocked and gave you light and heat control during the day.
So yeah! why not have a troop carrier pod that fits into the ringed "can lander"? So you can handle all kinds of stuff on the 10 meter diameter... Thats roughly 33 ft, which is a large nice Yurt per floor, would be enough space for a couple with kids...
I've over wintered several years in a 22 ft yurt and it was ample for two adults and two kids... so adding 11 ft would seem absolutely spacious... and if you had ten ft cielings, you could have ten levels per 100 feet.... that would be a quick appartment complex for Mars Family Robinson types...
Way better than those concepts using dry mud bricks to build habitat or using ice.... Also some chance of water table below the habitats that could be tapped into. and could be connected to each other by burried passage ways etc.
And until Mars has more atmosphere, is warmer, and has a magnetosphere, yer gonna wanna be snug underground, and not on the surface with Meteors plastering the place, and fragments flying miles in the thin air and low gravity..
Just sayin'
Elon your always a step ahead. Ty kind Sir
they should connect the stations with tunnels from the boring company and use falcon rockets as a subway cars.
Would it be economical to transport the Raptor engines back to earth rather than just dumping them or reusing the parts or even keeping them for emergence evacuations?
I guess if there is a lot of them it would. So how many ships will be cannibalised to make habitats and storage locations?
Ecumenical?? lol, idk! Perhaps economical.... Don't we just love auto spell!?
No mention of Optimus which will do a lot of the work building the base.
Now we need to create a new deep space network system that is in orbit around the Sun to get wider communication skills. Could call it "orbital deep space network"
Starlink can do that
Why land Starship at all? There should be a dedicated "Moon Bus" that ferries to/from LEO, LO, and Lunar Surface. It would de delivered to LEO via Starship. No aerodynamics, minimalist design.
when you build the moonbase of inflatable modules and cover these with loose regolith , you can fit a whole moon village into the cargo compartment of one starship, and you don´t need to dismantle the engines and take them back to earth.
There is a way to make the Lunar starship disassemble itself in a way that May provide Space x with a more adaptable means to and end.
Yes, and its name is Optimus.

Load up a variant of the Cyber truck made into a Rover in one, land on it's side with Super Dracos
If the HLS Starships land using the midship gas thrusters the 6 raptors should be removed at the Gateway and sent back for recycling.
How do they lower the HLS onto it's side, this seems poorly thought out. I propose the development of a boring company drill module that could be installed into the base when the raptors are removed at Gateway, this drill can also be methane powered, the ship could then bury itself into the surface with only the nose cone above the surface.
If the module can disconnect from the ship, it could then work as a mole digging tunnels under the lunar surface.
I imagine using 4 guy wires, attached directly above each landing gear, extended to winches anchored to the surface. On the side to be lowered, retract the landing gear. The weight of the Starship should start it tipping over, and the wires on the descending side are just used to keep it centered as the winches slowly play out the wires and lower the Starship.
The same winches and wires can be used multiple times for each Starship to be lowered this way.
First moon landing: Must. Send. CyberTruck.
With a remote control that can be operated by the public directly on the SpaceX website. Anyone can rent the Lunar CyberTruck by the minute, to drive a mannequin of David Bowie around on the moon surface (with appropriate safety limits in place). The rental charges are set by public auction. Add a mechanical arm so that adult children can fill the pickup bed with moon regolith.
just a small critical detail. Requires a new advanced mindset. Without it, it is a no go.
you do not do a flip maneuver on the moon there is not atmosphere. Animators sometimes.
It would be done by changing the angle of the rocket engines and landing thrusters. A starship designed to land on the moon will not have wings or heat shields.
@@appliedfactsthe wings will be smarter 😋
@@PlanXVMaybe just strap some cans of Red Bull to the sides?
I think I missed your point earlier. You are right, approaching the moon in a horizontal position would be useless. So, just approach tail first right from orbit.
@@appliedfacts yes in the video you will see it do a flip maneuver. that is dangerous and stupid lol.
I wonder if Elon has figured out how to 3d a Boring machine for "space" use.
The hostile alien bases on the dark side of the moon will not allow Musk's idea of establishing a base there.

Sending stuff back to Earth to be re-used? Never. Keep on the moon.
Yeah, at least until Moonbase Alpha has a big supply of spare engines to replace any damaged on Starships making the return trip, you stockpile them.
Re-use them for local hopper rockets. Or for ferry service, boosting all the gold and diamonds up to the freighter in moon orbit.
Not even got the spaceship into a stable orbit yet. I used to plan moon bases, we all can, none of them shock NASA, nor did this.

Moonbase Alpha? Tip of the hat to Space 1999?
Given that it is Elon. He just copied it. Most of his "ideas" are taken from 1960-1970s scifi books and shows. Generation Z is unfamiliar with the material and Elon gets called visionary.
Yeah, I was expecting to see pictures of Eagles.
So, how do they lay the ship down on its side? Where's the crane?
Hee-hee, I was thinking the same thing! Good catch!
Space $1.99. The whole premise of the television show was ridiculous.
Gerry and Silvia Anderson developed the popular TV show UFO. American backers wanted a second series but it had to be based on the moon. The Andersons were not happy but didn't have any other option. Hence Space 1999 and Moon Base Alpha.
