This master candle making craftsman is Mike Sullivan. I went to high school with him back in the 1970s. We were both in an elective class called Industrial Crafts where we learned how to do all kinds of crafts. We learned how to do candle making in this class and Mike just took off. He excelled at making candles and he loved it and since then he made a life long career of candle making. Mike is a master craftsman at making candles, he's the best you will ever see making candles.
Yeah he does do a really GREAT job he was the main reason I went back to busch gardens last night but sadly he wasn't their! His setup was gone and no one knew who I was talking about I had a business card but cant find it
@@UnnamedPrince , I was at Busch Gardens Williamsburg this past week and I too discovered that Mike Sullivan is no longer making candles there. I did ask about it and what they told me that after Covid and they opened back up Mike didn't come back. So I'm guessing he is just working somewhere else now.
I really wish I could see more of this guy carving. There are plenty of videos online of candle carving, but this guy is the best to watch! So informative as well!
Just met this guy the other day at busch gardens. For such a wonderful candle I couldn't believe how affordable it was! He was so nice, I hope he gets his cabin at Busch back so he can do his demonstrations again
I hope he has seen this video. Great Job!!!!! You got me hooked, I was waiting for the finally ( Finished Wax ) . So... beautiful. I never thought of this, these would make awsome wedding gift. With a video showing how each special candle was made for the person receiving it. Thank You ■ You Tube!!!! ■
This was amazing. I am a crafter from way back and I have never seen this done. You have to build your color from the inside out , and then when you work it the color is from outside in. Amazing. Thank you
I love these candles, I have spent the last couple months getting all the supplies to make these, this guy is excellent at this, I've watched all the videos on the net about these. My favorite part of this video though is how he grimaces every time that lady speaks!! lol!! funny as shit!! :-)
Please let me know which wax are you using and what additives are the best ...if I could have you're recipe for the right ingredients I would be most grateful ...i must be doing something wrong ...thanks
To all who have watched and will watch this video: I am not the candle maker in the video. He was making one for me. I wish I could answer your questions about the wax or candle-making process, but I can't. Sorry.
He's my father and I just showed him your video and he's very happy to see all the great remarks about him and the process. And yes he's still in Busch Gardens and will be there this year also
@@melp4054 I have built them a website and they haven't started using it yet but they do have a Facebook page that is monitored by me at facebook.com/candlemakerva/ The Best way to contact them though is by calling. I can get you the number privately is you message the FB page linked above.
I am an Ecuadorian woman who is trying to start the carved candle business here. So far I do not know yet what the white stuff is. Is it just white diluted wax or another stuff?
HOW DO YOU GET THE WAX TO DRIP AND COLLECT IN ORDER TO MAKE A MUSHROOM AT THE END OF THE CARVING. I COULD NOT GET DRIPS LIKE THIS TO MAKE MUSHROOMS. THE WAX ALWAYS GOES WATERY AND DRIP DRY...BEFORE DIPPING INTO THE WATER BUCKET......CAN ANYONE PLEASE ADVISE. MUCH THANKS
It should happen naturally. Try lowering the temperature slightly, not much, test and play around with it. Then, try to pull the candle out of the wax and into the water as quickly as you can, and make sure the water is VERY cold. Not room temperature. I hope this helps.
beautiful work, I also try to make candles, such as this but I have a problem, my wax hardens very fast and crack when cut, what should I do to avoid this? thank you
Was just curious if you know what this specific type of candle making/carving is called? Ive been trying to find equipment but cant find the exact name of the wax melter with multiple wells that everyone uses to make these candles. I love them.
+Samantha Burgess It's called cut and curl I'm new to it also...punch it in google, watch candle carving vids on youtube and you're on your way. good luck
+Samantha Burgess , I started about a year ago. The process can be complicated. It takes practice and the right amount of additives in the wax so that you will be able to curl it and it stays. I can email it to you. Also the wax vats to put it in can be expensive as well. you need a double holder because the wax melts at around 165 degrees. so you would need that additional layer of protection to be safe. I have to dipping tanks so far. I am constructing a third so I can go to different fairs and other local events. Do your research because getting started can be costly as well.
Clay Woman Thanks for watching! Sorry, but I'm not the guy making the candle. I was at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, VA and ordered a custom candle from him.
Are there places you can go to that teach you how to do this? I hear people who do it are taught for a full year, but no one ever mentions where they are taught. I've been looking into this for the past few days.
Bo L More dye, or different dye. The best dye for these candles is a pigment dye (different to regular candle dyes used in pillar candles) which has the rich colour that coats so well.
Hi guys how r you. i really really love carved candles and i came to the us for summer vacation and i badly wanna learn how to carve the candles but i dont know where. Im staying in tampa and orlando in florida. please does any one know where i can find slasses or courses here in tampa or orlando. im here till the end og august. Thanx a lot and i'll really appreciate your help.
Most of those workers have had a year of training. It's hard to get the perfect opacity without getting thick sections, and to get the perfect point where it's soft enough to sculpt, plus the risk of the pieces just breaking is huge. Trust me, it's stressful :(

Omg. Where could I go to order these supplies? This is so soothing to my soul. Are the prices high?
The supplies aren't so bad it's the tank that costs the most I had to make one.
Hey what kind of colours are those ?
Is it dye ? As well as wat kind of wax is used to make up the candle?
also, this fella is really good at this, I've seen a lot of videos....this candle is amazing!

I am an Ecuadorian woman who is trying to start the carved candle business here. So far I do not know yet what the white stuff is. Is it just white diluted wax or another stuff?
the white in candle carving is white pigment color added to wax, a solid type of dye. some people add titanium dioxide I've heard.

ok, thanks for your answer TheCouncilofSteel
ok, thanks for the reply Jazzy Aj 3305, someone told me it's not good wax that I have, I have a more elastic type wax
It's a high heat point paraffin wax. It's called igi1343 from lone Star candle Co.
