I'm still using my Duet and it's served me incredibly well for years, even on Apple Silicon. The design, UX, sound, and functionality are still surprisingly relevant to today's standards. I'm very pleased that Apogee hasn't abandoned their old hardware as many other companies have, and for that reason alone I'm sticking with Apogee. I am, however, looking forward to upgrading to the Symphony series to get that extra magic!

I have the Symphony MkII with a 16x16 card, and the remote, and really like it. It's been out for some time, so I was kind of expecting Apogee to come out with and update or replacement. The SE version kind of surprises me. Yes, the improved convertors are nice, but is this really the update? If so, I'm VERY surprised they didn't update the Thunderbolt ports to Thunderbolt 3 or 4. I know, you can get an adaptor for them. I'm currently using a 2019 Mac Pro, and my 2023 Mac Pro just showed up a few days ago, so I'm using the adaptor. But, for a piece of pro equipment that's supposedly current, needing an adaptor is adding an additional potential failure point.
The fact that the chassis was not updated to the current interface standard suggests to me that this is a stop-gap measure. To be honest, I was expecting there would be a MkIII version that would have some onboard DSP, like the desktop version. Doesn't seem to make sense to me that Apogee's flagship product doesn't have onboard DSP, whereas the smaller desktop version does.
Maybe the SE convertor cards will be used in a new MkIII chassis down the line.

Hi Lee. I'm soon to be in a similar situation, with the 16x16se thunderbolt edition and soon to own a new mac studio. I wanted to ask you how the adaptor is working out, as in do you get glitches or is it working 100% of the time?Also, as I see on your you tube page you do your share of virtual instruments. Me too. Can I ask you what specs you chose for your 2023 Mac Pro? I would appreciate it as it would be a big help for me in deciding how to spec mine out. Thanks, Mark

@@mspboy It's working fine, so no problems. I got the maximum configuration of the 2023 Mac Pro, with the exception of just a 2Tb system SSD. I added a Sonnet M.2 8x4 Silent Gen4 PCIe Card with eight Crucial 4Tb NVMe sticks, so I've got 32Tb of fast storage for my sample libraries. I did get the extra GPU capability, because audio software companies, like VSL, are using it for audio tasks (like MIR 3D). I figure this computer should last me awhile. Might be able to skip the next hardware update or two from Apple. ;)
