    First a very big thank you for taking the time for doing this video!!
    We have the exact same model and it was clear that the main fuse was gone (no light when the door was opened, no display, etc.) and we did not know where to start! Just the description (torx screw driver etc) and the explanation in the video was extremely helpful in planning out the repair and doing it! Thank for doing such a wonderful job!
    Once the fuse was fixed we had power but we had another problem: the microwave would turn on as soon as we simply closed the door even when we have had not set it for any cooking (the clock was not counting down or anything but a cup of water would get hot after about 30 sec). This same thing had happened a month or so ago but somehow it had gotten magically fixed by itself after an hour or so, but now after fixing the fuse this problem was back.
    After googling around it seemed like it was most likely the main control board. After replacing the fuse this was a much easier task! We replaced the main control board and everything was back to normal! I am sharing this info in case it is useful for someone because I had seen some suggestions that it may have been one of the door switches but it wasn't.
    Thanks again!

    Have the exact same combo unit. Microwave went out. No power on display or light inside. Oven still worked fine luckily. Checked the fuse and it was fine. Replaced it anyways. Ordered a new control board and it did the trick! Open the microwave door and there is a QR code that takes you directly to the GE website and the proper part. Replacing the board was easier than getting to the fuse. All connections just pull off.
    Backstory…
    Can’t remember exactly how it happened but the microwave lost power one day but then the next day it was back working. A few days later it went out for good. So in hindsight if the fuse was blown it would have never started working again. Also, you don’t have to removed whole thing to replace control board.
    Appreciate the video!

    This video is very helpful, because as you say, the manual is useless, and installation guide only talks about the oven, not the microwave. Plus why the heck would GE EVER hide the fuse in the back, that's just not convenient to the owner to change the fuse. good job, Dan

    So yesterday our built in GE microwave had no power and it seemed very strange. So I removed all of the brackets and pulled out the microwave to test the outlet to ensure there was power and there was. So even though ours isn’t the same model I watched your video. Went to the hardware store an bought a two pack of fuses. Seeing this is in a pretty tight area I put the new fuse in and reinstalled the microwave with all of the bracket. It’s now up and running…thanks for your video.

    Thank you very much Daniel, your video really helped me how to disassemble the unit. Also, your comment another person about where to buy the fuse. I was about to buy online and wait for few days to get the fuse. Now I just run to HD and buy the fuse. The voice of the video seems to be very low though. I had to cast to my TV and turn the volume way up to hear you. I guess we doers find a way or other to get the job done. Thanks again

    This was a great video. Thank you! I used it replace the diode and magnetron as my microwave had power but wasn't heating.
    One suggestion for anyone else doing this is that you can't directly lift the microwave out of the tracks as the air duct on the right hand side gets in the way. What you need to do is lift it on the left hand side (once you pull it out enough so that the left airduct clears the frame) and then slide the right hand side of the microwave out of the track (sideways!) by getting the tab through the slot you show at 3:20 of the video. Putting it back together is equally challenging as you need the slot to go back in that tab. Having someone watch from below and direct you is helpful to putting it back together.
    Thank you again!!

      ha you're welcome. I just wanted to snap it out when i got started but it was held together with several screws, someone impatient might break something. Really wish they would've put that fuse location closer to the front (behind the control panel maybe?) it would have been easy to get to. EIther way- glad I could help!

      Well you learned something new today! Ha- I teach grounding and bonding in a hazmat course for transferring fuel tankers (nurse/calf)- we tell the students “horseshoe”’to be funny (a lot of our students are agricultural/ rural background)when we show them how to set up an acceptable grounding field (low resistance required) i guess I slipped to an old habit in the video.

    • @tomrandolph6112

      A burning smell is supposedly an indication that the high voltage diode may be burning out. I have no first hand experience of this ,but I've read it in a few places.

    Thanks for this video. I have the same combo and the microwave had a weird display for a second when turned on and then went off. I pounded on it a few times and it went on before going off permanently. The bottom part works though. Do you think it is the fuse as well? If so I can replace it using your video :). Do you mind sharing where you got the fuse and which one to get?

    • @DadWorksVA
      @DadWorksVA  3 года назад +2

      The display could be going bad, but I would try the fuse first because they only cost 3 dollars for 2 at home depot. Busman brand 20 Amp ABC fuse, I think the box even says "microwave fuse" you can see the box the fuses come in at @4:10 If that doesn't work, I can only assume that replacing the display would be in order- which would probably require a bit more technical skill to unplug the old display and switch it out.

    • @DadWorksVA
      @DadWorksVA  2 года назад +1

      no super easy- connectors came apart fairly easy by grabbing the tabs, pause @3:04 and you'll see them, just pull straight down (just don't "force" anything) . I think they only go back together only one way if I recall correctly. you can mark their orientation with a piece of blue tape or a sharpie before you take them out if you want. They are similar to a lot of automobile electrical harnesses if you've ever had to unplug one of those.
