Thanks so much! I appreciate all the views of that linkage since it’s tucked up in there. This video has me thinking I can do this job. I’m gonna check both linkages because mine is super sloppy. Time to order a punch kit...
Got the pin out.. The joint REFUSES to come off the shaft. It's literally fused on due to oxidation... Bought a replacement joint. I plan to use a dremel to cut the old one and pry it off. Unless you have a different way to recommend?? I have a 2001 gc8
Greetings, I am currently in the same situation as you were in. I see you have had this issue 6 months ago. Please tell me you managed to remove the part! Ive tried hitting it off, cutting a slit into it with a oscillating saw and still no luck. Its rusted into oblivion. Did you manage to remove yours?
@@classicryanRCC I removed the old shift linkage by carefully cutting out a V shape with my dremel. I used a metal cutting wheel. After the V was removed, I then used a flat head screw driver and hammer and pried one side of the V until it opened up and became loose enough to slide off the shaft.
mines sloppy as same setup 1996 gf8. just got under and had a look my knuckle seems okay but there isnt even a bushing around my pin for the joint on the rod. also no spring there
Hi, thanks for the vid. I have battled with that pin for two evenings. it's so mangled now there's nothing left to push at. I'm considering just drilling the whole thing out but I can't get a straight shot with a drill bit. You used a 1/4" to punch it out. Is that the size of the hole? Also, my spring was missing. is that a critical piece?
Thanks, again. I saw that joint changed in other videos, but this is the only one where I can actually SEE the joint, roll pin (no idea what that was before) and shifter return spring. Can we talk you into putting the part numbers in the description? ;-)
Very well explained thank you! One of my next jobs 😊
Super video! Just did this on my 97 Legacy GT Wagon. Using the extension to remove and install the pins with the punches were very helpful.
