    When White opts for a quick Bf1-c4 against the Sicilian, Black is often advised to respond ...e7-e6 with an eye toward a future ...d7(d6)-d5. Here my opponent attempts to generate a kingside initiative while I "speed trap" him by creating tension and threats.

    John, if I'm not mistaken he left and let the clock run. The red door with the arrow tells you that the opponent has left the game. What a shame people do that instead of resigning.
    Nice game, btw. Thanks for all your effort in doing these videos for us.

    always interesting to see how even when you have an idea and it's good, you keep looking for better. that's how you found that waiting rook move near the end. instructive game!

    Nice clean wictory. What's your opinion on the rating inflation in the standard category on lichess vs icc? To me it seems like a 2000 standard player on ofc gives you a much harder time? Cheers :)

    Move first, ask questions later! Some of our brains have been warped by playing only bullet and blitz.

    "There should be a term in chess where someone spends very little time at the beginning of the game, gets in a bad position, and then tries to think their way out." I think that's called a patzer, no? ;)

    Thanks for another great video John. This is super instructive play. I'm transitioning to playing the Sicilian as black. Probably going to put together and share a chessable on it. Nice to know what you are thinking about these types of positions where your opponent is avoiding the theory.

    Now I have even more motivation to hit a 2000 rating: I'll have a shot at a game with you :P
    Aside from the one bullet game we've played where I didn't realize it was you and let you into a Scandi.

    I think the term for rushing into the opening and slowing down later should be "Pattoning". Inspired from the George Patton's famous quote, "A good plan, violently executed now, is better than a perfect plan in a week."

    • @JohnBartholomewChess
      @JohnBartholomewChess  8 лет назад +1

      I suppose the problem there is that it has to a "good plan" :)

    • @mcpartridgeboy
      @mcpartridgeboy 8 лет назад +1

      +raw031979b is it a good plan though ? moving hastily in a game of chess is not a good plan, making practical decisions is, slowing down and allowing an oponents arrogance to cloud over a deceivingly sharp position is a practical idea, I'm lower rated than my ability due to playing up a lot, the amount of people 30 ecf points ahead of me that try to steam roller over me with quick aggressive moves that lose after they spend all their time trying to get out a bad position is ridiculous, the moment you disrespect your opponent you can take 80 ecf points off your game ! ! the quote is definatly not appropriate here !

  • @colemanadamson5943

    Bc4...isn't that the Sozin variation? I remember playing that some 20+ yrs ago against a 200+ points higher rated player....got a winning position and lost it....lol.

    • @maximebedard4149
      @maximebedard4149 8 лет назад +1

      +Coleman Adamson I think the Fisher-Sozin Attack is when white plays 6. Bc4 against the Nardorf (5... a6) or the Scheveningen (5... e6) (maybe against other lines as well).

      Clearly Fakename I prepared for this game quite a bit. I don't remember all the moves but the game I remember was important because if I'd won then I would have won the entire tournament. Instead, I won the Class "C" 1st place.
