- Every shoot em up for the PC Engine / Turbografx / Supergrafx / CDROM.
I've taken on board feedback from the last version of this video from June 2020 and have changed the ranking and audio soundtrack accordingly!
I have included PCE Works releases in this list but haven't included any homebrew. In a follow up video I will explain how I've rated and ranked the games, and what I look out for in a great shooter. This is an amazing system for shooter fans and I know we have our own tastes and preferences so I don't claim this list to be anything more than my personal thoughts.
Believe it or not, I own the entire PC Engine shmup libray lol. I spent a good bit of time collecting them all over the years and grew up playing just about every one as a kid. Just found your video. I think there was a total of closer to 120 of them in all, but I never went back to count them one by one, especially since I also have some US box variants too. Always happy to see more cool shooter content out there.

The best 8 bit console. The best shooter library of all time
The PCE still stands out as 'the Shmup machine' of the 8bit to 16bit era. It's a machine that I've had for so many years but still it's amazing. The Line-Up is decent. Sapphire I own and while it looks good I never enjoyed playing it. GunHed and Soldier-Blade are more fun to play than this. So many decent Shmups on the PCE :D

I couldn't take to Spriggan at all ( but then I wasn't as impressed with Musha on the MD as everyone else seemed to be and it's a similar feel to me ) , Winds of Thunder is possibly my number one game on the system very closely followed by Sapphire ....
1ccd Sylphia few months back so may sell my original one now and just keep the copied one , still a fun game to go back to

Glad you featured Armed-F, Horror Story not a bad SuperCdrom2 platform shooter either.
My preference Super Star Soldier and Salamander top 2 - loved Gradius2 bitd on my duo :-) Also surprised no Kikki kikki Kai-kai :/
Love that music, great list man. Would you ever consider reviewing neo geo (even outside the shooters in its library)
Thanks for your comment! I'm a low effort kind of guy so I'm more likely to make videos of systems I own and I'm not a great fan of reviewing emulation. I am enjoying blazing star for the ps4 and have great respect for the system though!
