Scotty Sir, you missed and/or skirted over some points. New Subaru's are quiet??? I guess that makes my 2012 NEW, because my 2012 is super quiet. Power??? All this talk about horse power, means very little, going from an entrance ramp at 30 mph, too RT95's 70 mph is NOT a problem for a 20112 with 232,000 miles. Handling??? The boxer engine by design keeps the weight of the car low, which make taking curves feel safe with exceptional handling. This 2012 is my first Subaru, I bought from a private seller at a crazy low price, from this day forward, it will be my first choice, it's a manufacturer I will recommend.
The head gaskets leaked because with the boxer engines coolant is always is in contact with the head gasket and ate them up. Switching to silicone solved the issue. As far as ten years down the road who knows. It depends on how the silicone was engineered. But I put 225,000 on my list Subaru with no issues as far as leaking went. But the transmission valve body went at 160,000. And it might be a good idea to change your coolant, every three or four years to make sure the rust inhibitor in coolant is still active. If it becomes inactive, it’s sort of becomes acidic. Which may harm the silicone.
I've liked Subaru ever since my Dad bought a new 1974 GL sedan. It was his daily driver back-and-forth to work, and the car I drove to get my driver's license when I was 16. Manual transmission, good gas mileage. It was a practical car for a practical man. More recently, my sister bought a Forester Touring model and loves it. Watch out, Toyota.
They are great in the older models--- My 2015 Outback is costing me $1500 to replace the wheel bearings!!!??? Daughter's Impreza also had issues on her 2018
@@marcovdabeast Toyota only owns like 11 percent or so of Subaru. Subaru is bigger than most people think. They're a very practical company that people like.
@@mikel8185 just like with any brand's dealership, if you get the work done at a dealer its way more expensive than finding a 3rd party Subaru mechanic that will do the work for way cheaper.
Welcome to Team Subaru Scotty! I love my 2020 Crosstrek and I believe you'll enjoy your subie as well. As a fellow wrench, I also think you'll find that changing the oil on the car is so easy you could train a dog to do it lol Way to plan out filter placement Subaru. (that form-in-place-gasket nonsense needs some improvement though...)
I love my Subaru. It’s so nice. Not too simple. Not too complex. So many nice safety features and good technology yet not too hard to figure out. And it’s so very good in the snow. I have a 2019 Crosstrek Limited. Thanks for the amazing video Scotty 😊
I love my Impreza sport hatchback. It has the pushbutton start as a person who”s always late because they can’t find their keys and then their phone it’s awesome to just grab my bag and go. Take the rails off dark grey with tinted windows and its adorable little car. I love hatchbacks the freaking outback and forester look more like station wagons to me. I like the sound of a boxer. I hope they don’t do away with their hatchbacks so few companies are keeping them around. After driving a mini van for 17 years why Would I want some mini suv thingy. I can clean up this car in less than two hours it’s small. And yes it is fun to drive. The CarPlay and blue tooth are sub par though. Do NOT put the car in gear BEFORE the CarPlay is connected in my car or it wont connect. And the blue tooth cuts in and out. The sport comes with more and nicer speakers. I enjoy it very much
Your videos offer the best entertainment value on YT! I don't even need to fix my car but just watching you gets me laughing each time. Plus I am learning so much. Thank you!
Subaru had head gasket issues as recently as 2010, not decades ago. Then came the CVT problems, which I think have been solved. Four-time Subaru owner, so I've had the experience. They can be fussy cars to maintain.
I had a '14 CrossTrek and my wife had a '13 Impreza 5 door. The Impreza needed a quart of oil every 1500 miles, had the transmission replaced by the dealer when they botched the routine maintenance. Then the fuel pump died. Mine needed a rear driveshaft, left side catalytic converter and also consumed oil. Replaced wheel bearings early - they are a weak point - and just a variety of annoying issues. We've had 5 Scoobs between us, but these are the last two we will be getting. They just don't screw 'em together like they used to.
My Subie Forester is a 2008. Bought it with 166,000 miles on it in July 2022. $5,800 paid for it outright. No problems with it so far. I wasn't too sure if I'd made the right choice. I had my heart set on another Toyota, but I was in need of a car and I didn't have the luxury of time to shop around. However, I have come to love the spacious interior, superior visibility, and how it handles snowy roads. I think I got a pretty good deal!!!@@carlosandres280
Thanks for the update on Subaru. Never had one, came close when Toyota partnered with them on the 4 banger sports car, but those engines.....What did you say? have to pull the Suby motor to work on all those non-gasketed, disintegrated silicon sealant oil leak points? I 'member you say the same thing about another Boxer motor, the 911, after you tried to fix a part in one with the motor still in the car. Afterwhich you asked a Porsche mechanic how he did it. He told you "just drop the damn motor!" to which you replied it would have been more expensive to fix if you had dropped the motor. But to paraphrase the Porsche mechanic's reply: If the customer can afford a Porsche (Suby), he can afford the labor expense to drop the motor to work on it. Meanwhile I am still smiling after this Suby review having bought a 2023 MADE IN JAPAN Toyota Corolla Hybrid in April 2023, paid MSRP - NO Markup of a grand sum of $25,524 charged by Toyota on the Moroney (I paid for the option package $1340 with the BSM and RCTA), yes, the hybrid could have been got cheaper un--optioned at MSRP $23,895! Alloy wheels on this Corolla too. On my last tank I got 60.5 mpg. A utube competitor of yours The Car Care Nut, a Toyota Technician, just tore down a same series model of this one with 341,000 miles being used as a delivery vehicle; not a drop of leaky oil on it and the hybrid system is still working perfectly with original battery pack! Yes, Toyota is facing higher supply chain prices just like Subaru, but Toyota still insists on installing million-mile, built-like-a-Rolex engines in their cars. But Like the Car Care nut has also demonstrated in another video, change your oil at LEAST every 5,000 miles, or you WILL scuff your cylinder walls when the engine oil loses its lubricating properties, long before the recommended 10,000 mile oil changes.
WOW Scotty, I can't believe you changed your mind about Subarus. My wife has a 2017 Subaru wagon. It's design is well thought out. It rides and handles well and has very good gas mileage.. I would buy a Subaru now if they came out with a hardtop convertible to replace my 2008 Chrysler Sebring hardtop convertible which still runs well and has 185,000 miles on it. New Tech does not necessarily beat "tried and true" older and refined Technology. I prefer buttons and levers for most things in a car over what a touch screen has replaced. Old school hand brake and spare tire are also things that should not have disappeared.
The Impreza is truly an underrated vehicle, especially with most new cars being sold well over 35K. And I love it because it has such a simple but functional interior.
My wife has a 2020 Ascent. (1st owner) It’s great. Very Nimble, turbo charged, very little lag. Great in Colorado snow/ slush. Great car. Zero problems so far.
It's a shame they didn't put the H6 in the ascent. That turbo charged 2.4 is working hard to pull that heavy car. It's supposed to be their most rugged 4 cylinder yet though.
@@billsanter The 2.4T has no problem moving the Ascent. It's a very nice engine, it gets up and goes like you wouldn't believe. They put this engine in the XT Legacy and Outback models. And now it powers the new model WRX.
I am a Subaru tech, been working with them for nearly 2 years. Now with that said. The engine is great, there isn't anything bad to say about the 2.4T engine. The CVT in the Ascent, i've Seen too many of them get replaced at too low of mileage. Also the transfer clutch failures they have. The 1st signs of transfer clutch failure is a squeak when shifting from Reverse to Drive. Then it'll start shuddering on tight turns. Also they wear the tires out very fast, tires and alignments both need to be done often on the Ascents.
I test drove the Subaru Impreza hatchback before selecting the Crosstrek. One of the main considerations was the fact the Crosstrek sits higher and has much better visibility. It was raining the night I did the test drives and it was very difficult to see out the side windows on the Impreza.
@@Jake-iw6qm like tires if one goes bad for some reason you gotta buy a whole new set because it will mess up the transmission from slight differences in material in motion. Yeah no thanks!
@@hardcore4476 That’s how it works with AWD vehicles, unfortunately. If you just replace one tire or even two it can mess up the drivetrain because the tire circumference is out of balance. Definitely something that has to be considered before buying an AWD vehicle.
Bought a 2023 Impreza premium on Halloween 2022. I live at the top part of a road of a small mountain in the Hudson Valley, NY. It grips the road without issue in snow and ice and gets good gas mileage. Love the key and physical handbrake. And the driver assistance along with the cruise control on the highway make long trips way easier. Drove down to Florida and back and it made the trip much less stressful.
Yay! Scotty likes a Subaru! I actually like those models too. The new ones have electric parking brake and not sure if they still have a physical key, but this generation in your video is definitely my favorite.
I just got one of these for the same reason. New Corollas are not on the lot and some going over msrp if you can find them. Went to Subaru and was able to test drive a Impreza and it was not over msrp. I actually like the simplicity over the new Impreza coming out next year.
Hai fatto bene❤il CVT non rende onore al motore boxer. Io comprai una XV model 2016, turbo diesel 6 marce manuali perché Subaru decise di eliminare il cambio manuale e il motore diesel. È una macchina da sogno, va dappertutto
Thanks again for the comments on a Subaru.. I work there and the more honest information gets out there the better.. Thanks again Scotty.. Love your videos and advice.
I'm on my 5th imprezza I lease so I get a new one every three years, I've also leased a forster and two legacies, I was in the automotive business for 32 years ,I worked in the finance department, trust me if you drive 20k a year or less, leasing is the way to go, I haven't bought tires in over 20 years.
I own a 2001 Legacy GT Limited 5speed and have since 2006, I love the car. Yes I did replace the head gaskets a couple years ago, but only the EJ25 non-turbo has the head gasket issue. I will tell you that the engine is DAMN good otherwise. This car has never left me stranded, and the engine has never randomly shut off on me.
I have a 2014 Crossy. Very good on fuel, especially hwy. Interesting story, was told first responders very much like them. Seems, like no other car, the A pillars take twenty minutes to cut through with the jaws of life. Very well built cars. My ten yr. old car looks like new, no rust and i drive in Ontario, Canada, you know, where they mine the salt!?
I picked up a 2019 Subaru Crosstrek with a 6-speed manual transmission at the end of 2019, just before automobile prices blew up and before the Fed raised interest rates. I love it. Best car I've ever owned. I know it's just an Imprezza on a lift kit, but I require a vehicle that can drive over a curb without damage. I have my reasons. It was also the last new, manual, 2019 Crosstrek left in my state.
All but the transmission because I found a mechanic that does good work at half the price of the dealerships. But also because at this point, there's not much more that can go wrong & it's paid off. So it'll make a decent beater in the winter.
My 04 Forester had noticeable head gasket issues around 135k miles in 2020 but never blew, just leaked oil and coolant a bunch for a year or so. Had AC issues too, but the transmission always worked great.
I caught my head gasket early enough where it didn't actually "blow" thankfully. But I bought it used, so I think if I could've replaced the "lifetime" transmission fluid regularly before the miles got too high, then I wouldn't have issues with it. Granted, they're not bad yet, just noticeable if you know what you're looking for.
DO NOT BUY A SUBARU. I drove a 2001 Toyota Celica til 270,000 miles and was still running great no major repairs, switched to a 2010 Subaru Forester and it was a money pit. Head gasket blew at 150k miles, engine threw a rod at 180k miles. Had electrical issues all throughout its entire life. Never abused the car and maintained it very well. NEVER AND I MEAN NEVER TOUCH A SUBARU.
I drove a 99 Forester for 21 years. I did have the head gaskets replaced at 115,00 miles but drove it for another 7 years and that was a lot cheaper than a new car.
Scott, thank you for sharing all of your knowledge!.. you should schedule a time to tour the Subaru plant in Lafayette Indiana, it's free and it's very interesting!
After watching your videos for the past few years you convinced me that Toyota makes the best cars so I bought a Corolla Cross. I looked at a Subaru Crosstrek, it was ok but I like the Toyota much better.
I have a 2003 Subaru Forester. 21 years, 220K. $550 per year maintenance. They are more expensive to maintain, but they are shure footed, safe, practical, and if you are in a head-on collision, they will save your life.
I own a 2019 Subaru Impreza touring/premium sedan with some modest upgrades just an upgraded pitch stop mod best car I've ever owned has about 89-90k kms it handles great the touring trim in Canada gets a 20mm front stabilizer bar and a 15mm rear stabilizer bar making cornering relatively flat and Subarus dual piston brakes are amazing
The Toyota Corolla Cross is being advertised in my area for about $27,200, so I would stick with Toyota for a couple thousand more. I usually agree with Scotty but not on this one.
In our county the local Toyota dealer is expanding their dealership. It is going to be double the size of what it is now. This is in a city of only 34,000 population that is also our county seat.
I used to have an 03 Impreza wagon and it ran decently. 3k$, 120k miles, and the head gasket DID go out! It cost me $80 to fix. The radiator burnt once going uphill to go to a hiking spot and when I drove fast "65", the wheel would wobble and shake like crazy. I eventually traded it for a clean motorcycle.
I’ve driven Subaru my whole life I recently just compared the Impreza hatchback to the Toyota Corolla hatchback. I went with Toyota . Subaru make the worst engines. I’ve had to replace one in every Subaru I’ve ever owned
I have a 2018 crosstrek, and I’m happy with it. No issues, great gas mileage, goes off road, etc. the only thing I don’t like is that the emergency brake is electronic.
Scan tools are not required for Electronic parking brakes on Fords... Activate the Ford electronic parking brake service mode 1. Set the ignition to ON. 2. Press and hold the accelerator pedal and place the EPB switch to the RELEASE (downward) position. Continue to hold the accelerator pedal and EPB. 3. Set the ignition to OFF, then set the ignition to ON within 5 seconds. Continue to hold the accelerator pedal and the EPB switch. The EPB system will be deactivated, preventing parking brake application until service has been completed and maintenance mode has been deactivated. The yellow electronic parking brake indicator will be illuminated and maintenance mode will display on the message center. Set the ignition to OFF, then release the accelerator pedal and EPB switch. Deactivate Ford electronic parking brakes (EPB) service mode 1. Set the ignition to ON. 2. Press and hold the accelerator pedal and place the EPB switch in the APPLY (upward) position. Continue to hold the accelerator pedal and the EPB switch. 3. Set the ignition to OFF, then set the ignition to ON within 5 seconds. Continue to hold the accelerator pedal and the EPB switch. 4. Release the accelerator pedal and the EPB switch. The EPB system will fully apply and release the parking brake to guarantee sufficient air gap between the rear brake pads and brake disc.
I’m on my fourth Subaru. We have a 2016 Forester with 61,000 miles with no problems. I bought a a 2014 Crosstrek and put 40,000 miles. Couldn’t stand the lack of power from the 2.0 liter engine, so I traded it in on a 2017 WRX. We moved to Northern Idaho. The WRX DIDN’t have enough ground clearance in the winter, so, I traded it in for a 21 Crosstrek Sport. The 2.5 is no WRX, it can get out of its own way. I can pass at will. It gets around great in the snow with the all wheel drive. It does have a keyless ignition but the batteries are simple to replace. Great cars, I used to be a Honda guy, but the Subarus are great cars…….
Bought a new 2018 Subaru Forester and ended up hating that car. Seats like rocks, no room, black everything inside, visors that had to be replaced every six months due to the worst squeaking sound you ever heard - and the service department lied and said they'd never heard of that problem and I read online in chats about other people complaining bitterly about it. The squeak was so loud it actually hurt your fillings. The turbo engine started giving us problems with only 16,000 miles on it. Traded that piece of junk in for a 2016 Toyota Highlander and never looked back.
I have a 2019 model- I even managed find it with a manual transmission! I need to take it in for a recall involving a coil pack, even though mine does not show the symptom of missfire. As to the silicone vs separate gasket thing, I guess time will tell. In my experience working on old motorcycles, and this is possibly due to the location of said gasket/sealer, I’ve seen more failures with gasket-sealed interfaces than I have with those sealed with glue. Gaskets seem to be important as an interface between dissimilar metals where I find more glue alone between castings that are the same metal on either side, notably in motorcycles, split engine cases.
glad to see your finally comming around on subarus.. i have a 2020 forrester and have had no problems yet ...lol great cars for the money good gas mileage too and safety features are great really hard to get in an accident...
2015 forester with 181k miles. No complaints. Only real major work were the rear wheel bearings and I just replaced the driver side front axle at 175k.
Yes Toyotas are expensive especially now but on the back end you’ll save cause you’ll have it forever. I’m still rocking my 10 year old Camry she runs like a top 117,000 miles LE smooth riding trim with the Michelin defender t plus h tires still gets 41 mpg highway with the smooth 6 speed automatic.
Dump my Honda Accord coupe. Honda was fine but seats are terrible. Plus was the resell value 100% back never had that happen before. Thanks to chip shortage. So held out a year and picked up a Subaru end of year. Bought a Subaru outback... great comfortable all around perfect wagon. 34 mpg driving normal speed, no issues 5500 miles on 2022. It's a great well built vehicle. Honda needs learn from Subaru . My Son's 2017 Pilot Honda transmission just went at 90k. Honda is just not worth the money anymore. 1:16
Now that is a realistic, well said comment. I have heard that the Honda pilots have really sunk in their quality. Not just that brand though, Toyota, and Nissan have really gone down in quality.
Greatest ride. Nice torque. Best car for the money. Basics done right. Scotty’s kind of car. Unfortunately software and electronics usually have some glitches.
Dude, toyota prices are getting stupid, and they are stepping out of their lane when it comes to pricing. Toyotas were great until they started hitting crack pipe prices.
@@Jake-iw6qm you've negatively commented like 7 times already about anyone's positive subaru experience.. if you're clearly working for the competition to smear subaru at least try to be more subtle
@@Jake-iw6qm I'll be honest, I also think it's how its driven, besides like this guy it'll take me 10 years to get to 150k lmaooo ion drive much I'm in NYC, so I won't say your wrong, I just probably will never find out.
I've got a 2022 corolla hatchback. You can turn the electric hand brake off by depressing the brake pedal & pushing the hand brake button at the same time.
Got SUBARU Since 2002 and They Stay in The Family, After Each New SUBARU we Get. Outback, Forester and Soltera . We missed to Have Those BAJAs H4 & TRIBECAs H6
The collision avoidance sruff is a scam. Increased vehicle costs upfront cascade down into everything including insurance, maintenance, & taxes. If they are so safe, why aren't insurance rates significantly cheaper? Because they are not. And they absolutely don't justy the additional cost.
Get your act together Subaru and put the dang gaskets back in your engines. Ridiculous. You should realize that is exactly an opposite move of why your faithful customers stay with Subaru. I was considering buying one of your vehicles until this news. I drive em 250,000 miles and I’m not buying a car with an engine that was assembled without gaskets. Come on! What does this save you?? $30 a car? Wake up. Thanks for letting us know Scotty.
For 50 years my family bought VW, from a 1971 Bug, to a 2016 GTI and a few Nissans, my mom like Altimas. In the last years, my brother and I converted to Subaru, he has the Forester and the XV, and I got the BRZ.
I have driven Toyota for 30+ years. In 2020 however, I was checking prices, quality reports, general research, and bought a 2021 Subaru Crosstrek Base with that 2.0L. (MADE IN JAPAN) It has been wonderful. It's not a Toyota (and I'm sure it uses sealant instead of gaskets) but I only drive 2500 miles per year. I expect to change the oil and battery. Not many problems have been reported with these! They ride good and I paid $24,400 new in 2020. I could STILL sell it for close to that today! (May 2023) I hope it lasts a good number of years.
I had an Impreza for ten years. Love it until the day the AC compressor died. I finally replaced it with a Crosstrek. And, despite what Scotty says, it's great.
Here's my two cents worth: All Subaru owners love their Subies until they start leaking oil. I have a 2006 Forester purchased 16 years ago before Subarus were popular even in Florida - where, we do not need AWD. From day one it is like driving in a wind tunnel. I wish I had a dollar for every time my mechanic has told me it's not an expensive part, it's the labor due to the way this engine is. At 120,000 miles it began leaking oil, he said get used to it because you don't want to pay the $$ to replace the head gaskets. Got a new er engine at 143k, in last year of 10k more miles I have had to replace the AC compressor, water pump , CV axel, wheel bearings, AC evaporator, another water pump. I'm done!!!! Looking at the RAV 4 and CR-V. And I still love my Forester but wish I had traded it when it was 10 years old.
Finally Scotty praising Subaru for what it is, a japanese company that makes quality vehicles, I win two and none of them leak oil, just use Valvoline synthetic always and you will be good.
I got a Chevy Cruze right now that’s in good shape and running well idk if I should sell it or not it got a 100 k I got it for 4600 2013 I could def get around 5500 to 6 k but i could buy another used car and have problems also .. I wanted a Honda but there so expensive right now with High mileage
Just bought a 2019 Impreza with a 2L engine. Been great all wheel drive and 38MPG. Good features and fun to drive. Low center of gravity. Hope I got a steal only 20,000 miles on it . hopefully I get 300,000 miles ^^
I can’t buy car Since I started watching Scott because always something happened, finally I bought burgman , like you said in one video he said Corolla are the best next 2 day Honda is the best buy the day between Subaru lolo😂

Customers should support manufacturers when they build good cars like this without overthinking and over-engineering them.
a little over engineering is good sometimes tho, especially for tuning
How much did they save on a simple gasket over the silicone glue? Geez. Where else in the car did they go cheap?
The head gaskets leaked because with the boxer engines coolant is always is in contact with the head gasket and ate them up. Switching to silicone solved the issue. As far as ten years down the road who knows. It depends on how the silicone was engineered. But I put 225,000 on my list Subaru with no issues as far as leaking went. But the transmission valve body went at 160,000. And it might be a good idea to change your coolant, every three or four years to make sure the rust inhibitor in coolant is still active. If it becomes inactive, it’s sort of becomes acidic. Which may harm the silicone.
Had a 2001 Subaru Outback,…used synthetic oil and changed every 7500 miles,..sold the car at 140,000 and never had one problem.

I did too, while changing my battery at Orileys!! Ft. Campbell
Was he waving his hands all around when he spoke with you like he does in his videos?
I've liked Subaru ever since my Dad bought a new 1974 GL sedan. It was his daily driver back-and-forth to work, and the car I drove to get my driver's license when I was 16. Manual transmission, good gas mileage. It was a practical car for a practical man. More recently, my sister bought a Forester Touring model and loves it. Watch out, Toyota.
Toyota is making them now as they merged and toyota has a stake in making subarus what an excellent merger
As a fellow wrench, I also think you'll find that changing the oil on the car is so easy you could train a dog to do it lol
Way to plan out filter placement Subaru. (that form-in-place-gasket nonsense needs some improvement though...)
Rented one for an 800 mile trip. 2022 model with 25k miles. Super nice interior and extremely comfortable. No car sores after driving for ten hours.
I love my Subaru. It’s so nice. Not too simple. Not too complex. So many nice safety features and good technology yet not too hard to figure out. And it’s so very good in the snow. I have a 2019 Crosstrek Limited. Thanks for the amazing video Scotty 😊
Got mine a couple months back. Love the flat engine, unmatched handling for what it is, great mpg and it was the last year for the 5 speed.
I enjoy it very much
The industry is in panic with Soctty`s latest video!

I lived to see Scotty Kilmer considering a Subaru for a daily driver! Way to go Subaru! 😂😂😂
Subaru will go out of business sooner rather than later.
NEVER BUY A SUBARU. Complete trash money pits.
They’re trash. Get a Toyota. Older used Toyota like my 2011 Avalon with 230k miles, still runs like a clock.
@@boogitybear2283I had a Toyota Corolla and it was horrible. We took very good care of it but still gave us tremendous oil issues.

Scotty's videos are my after work wind down cocktail that raise my spirits without killing my liver. And bonus - I learn stuff.
Thank you Scotti for uncountable days of interesting car information.
Scotty
Scotty is spot on with this video. I drove a CrossTrek a few weeks ago and loved it almost immediately.
Subaru had head gasket issues as recently as 2010, not decades ago. Then came the CVT problems, which I think have been solved. Four-time Subaru owner, so I've had the experience. They can be fussy cars to maintain.
Well 2010 is a decade ago
@@johnlorrieboskovic2836 2013 was bad year for Subaru. Many burned excessive oil which led to class action lawsuit.
Welcome to the club!!!
3rd Outback, currently a 22 Onyx.
I watched all car care nut videos, he's the best!
I watch the car care nut videos as well. He is the best!
Love that this car has normal hand brake and key. Love it !
382,000 miles on my 2002 Forester and it has NEVER sounded like that engine.
Dude if I had a car that lasted THAT long I’d be so proud
The Impreza is truly an underrated vehicle, especially with most new cars being sold well over 35K. And I love it because it has such a simple but functional interior.
My 2008 is 314,000 miles strong 💪
Good choice! Ours is super reliable, enjoy
DO NOT BUY A SUBARU. Mine was a money pit.
@@Jake-iw6qm what happened and what model did u have
@@Jake-iw6qm like tires if one goes bad for some reason you gotta buy a whole new set because it will mess up the transmission from slight differences in material in motion. Yeah no thanks!
@@hardcore4476
That’s how it works with AWD vehicles, unfortunately.
Scott is informative and entertaining. He definitely knows his stuff. I'm curious to know what he thinks of Mazda
Yay! Scotty likes a Subaru! I actually like those models too. The new ones have electric parking brake and not sure if they still have a physical key, but this generation in your video is definitely my favorite.

Hai fatto bene❤il CVT non rende onore al motore boxer. Io comprai una XV model 2016, turbo diesel 6 marce manuali perché Subaru decise di eliminare il cambio manuale e il motore diesel. È una macchina da sogno, va dappertutto
I've had a 2017 and aside from a bad PCV valve, it's been trouble-free for nearly 100k. I've managed a 43 mpg tank through Kansas as well.
Some of the Crosstreks had defective piston rings and burned oil as new vehicles
Yep that's true. From 2011-14 crosstrek and impreza models.
I think I picked up the second to last 2023 manual Crosstrek left in my state.
I purchased a brand new 2023 Subaru Crosstrek Limited in December and it was delivered to me in January 2023. I just love my Subaru.
My 2013 Forester head gasket blew right at about 100k miles along with starting to have transmission & AC issues.
But did you take care of it 🤔
All but the transmission because I found a mechanic that does good work at half the price of the dealerships.
Most of these are due to owner error, and not taking care of their car
DO NOT BUY A SUBARU. I drove a 2001 Toyota Celica til 270,000 miles and was still running great no major repairs, switched to a 2010 Subaru Forester and it was a money pit. Head gasket blew at 150k miles, engine threw a rod at 180k miles. Had electrical issues all throughout its entire life. Never abused the car and maintained it very well. NEVER AND I MEAN NEVER TOUCH A SUBARU.
@@grantreemo7789 no and never would after my past experience.
I drove a 99 Forester for 21 years. I did have the head gaskets replaced at 115,00 miles but drove it for another 7 years and that was a lot cheaper than a new car.
That’s just it.. 2010 vs 2023/4. Can’t even compare lmao.
Scott, thank you for sharing all of your knowledge!.. you should schedule a time to tour the Subaru plant in Lafayette Indiana, it's free and it's very interesting!
I bought a 2021 Crosstrek and I couldn't be happier. The simplicity is a huge selling point for me.
I have a 2021 Subaru Forester and I love it.
After watching your videos for the past few years you convinced me that Toyota makes the best cars so I bought a Corolla Cross. I looked at a Subaru Crosstrek, it was ok but I like the Toyota much better.
Must be nice they have like 0 in my area for more than 300 hundred miles.
I have a 2003 Subaru Forester. 21 years, 220K. $550 per year maintenance. They are more expensive to maintain, but they are shure footed, safe, practical, and if you are in a head-on collision, they will save your life.
I have a 2020 Subbie, nice to hear you praise modern Subarus. Makes me feel better about my decision.
Thanks Scotty. Great little cars. If I could've found one at the right price (used), I'd probably already have one (even with the potential issues).
Yes! They are expensive 🫰
No I would not buy the Corolla cross that thing is ugly
Woah so inexpensive
Money absolutely sways me!

Thank you for sharing . I'm looking for another vehicle and was wondering if I should consider another Forester. My current one is a 2006.
@@lynnita321 Just like Scotty says, most brand new cars are junk, not just Subaru - in my very expensive experience.
Ouch, going from one piece of junk to another. Good luck.
Good post. Thanks.

Should I be worried about newer Subarus with CVT transmissions?
The North American CEO of Subaru said that the factors they strive for the most with their vehicles is value, and symmetrical AWD.
Finally Scotty praising Subaru for what it is, a japanese company that makes quality vehicles, I win two and none of them leak oil, just use Valvoline synthetic always and you will be good.
