Thank Loyd and great remark about the straps and the extended side pockets. Looking forward to the Aprex Pro because of the many front pockets. As someone with shoulder issues, accessing front pockets is easier then the side and back ones
Thanks Loyd, even if this isn’t the one anyone is going to rush out and purchase, pole quiver included in the purchase, competitors could do well to take note. Love my Adv Skin 12, don’t love the additional quiver cost.
Very much appreciated this review as you highlighted the fact that the new one seems to be better so to hold off and wait. I think I lll have to check it out when it’s released
Hey Loyd. Interesting review. I have always bought camelbak for mountain biking. And there bags are built to last. But, I'll be sticking with salomon for my trail running 👊🏻
I have 3 running vests from Camelbak and I love the fabrics and breathability however I do have a problem with the one size fits all approach as well. I'm not a tiny person by any means and I have to crank the straps almost all of the way down to help alleviate bouncing. I can only imagine someone smaller than me must be left with quite a bit of pack movement. I'm looking forward to the move to individual sizing on the Apex Pro! Thanks for another great review.
The Zephyr didn't appeal to me because of the lack of front storage (those zipped pockets don't cut it). But I'm really excited for the Apex Pro in 2024. It seems to fix all the deficiencies in the Zephyr.
I have loved using my Adv Skin 12 all summer. But I wanted more room so that I did not need to squish my waterproofs and spare layer. I got the Salomon Adv Skin Cross Season 15. I think it's the perfect winter companion to the Skin 12. Great pack.
Well said on the points. I recently bought this due to the quiver. Personally I found using the back pouches for the bottles and the ones in front for gels, etc. otherwise I had items fall out that side access slit. Overall I like the pack, it’s straight forward and great for sub 6 hour runs. After that I would move back to a UD. I personally do not like the fabric, it seems to cause a bit of irritation. Although it’s nice, it’s not really close to the better brands like UD, Nathan or Solomon, those brands really have a much better all around product in running vests. The quiver is really the best part of it (I can’t use Solomons). Good review and I’m sure CB will keep improving it.
These designs that seem to only concentrate on average runner, who only need to think of liquid, keys and phone, really limits the bags “audience”.. and takes it out of the very lucrative ultra scene.. who’s whole need for a vest is the ability to hold a lot of stuff that’s reachable without taking it off. You see this as the bags get bigger as well.. I haven’t done a multi day yet.. but you’re now able to hold jackets, and bedding.. but lose those useful massive chest pockets.. I only get to see this kind of storage on Salomon 12.
I haven't considered anything from Camelback since the Vista Outdoors/ AR15 debacle but I see that's all finished now, so that's good. This won't be on my shopping list but I'm with you on the Salomon flasks losing fluid in transit. grrr
good review, I think I will stick with the Salomon Adv 12. The pockets and back compartments look small. Does the pole quiver go on both sides as I would only use it on the left? I don't think you can beat the Salomon Adv 12 for 99% of races, and if I need more space, e.g. for races that need extra/cold kit and fast tracking I use the Black Diamond Distance 22.
The problem with doing that Stephen is the water in your soft flasks would sloosh around and I'm not a fan of that. You'd also have to let the air out every time you want to drink 🤔 I think the bungee system works better If I'm honest. Really glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching 🙏
I have a larger chest and would ignore the new Apex vest because of the material side pockets. The straps on the zephyr would give a greater range of fit and adjustment outside of the usual sizes. I never got my Salomon vest to fit well and couldn't use the side pockets as they pulled back too far. I currently use an Instict Trail Eklipse instead and it is excellent with shockcord side adjustment like a lacing system.
Have you got the new Apex Pro vest already Allen? Also, have you tried the latest version of the Salomon Adv Skin 12? Salomon have changed the design of the side pockets and it makes accessibility a lot better 👍
Guessing the Zephyr is the entry level (cheaper) vest and the Apex will be priced higher. That simple. Pay more for the customization (sizes) and better construction.
I don't think the Zepher "PRO" is their enter level hydration vest, Camelbak have several different models that are a lot more affordable than £140 in their range. Also this is the vest that their sponsored athletes use to wear before they got their hands on the Apex Pro. Like I mentioned in the video, the Zephyr Pro has been priced to compete with Salomon's Adv Skin 12 set and UD Ultra vest and neither of those are classed as entry level models 👍
Good afternoon. !!!! Camelbak for ever!!!!. Thanks Loyd for this information. Here is my Like. A nice monday for everyone.

Just snagged a sample Apex Pro, love the layout of the pockets and the soft flasks with lock tops 👍 so comfy full loaded too. Winner👊

The Apex Pro definitely looks worth waiting for, love the way they include the pole quiver which looks to make managing your poles super easy 👍
Does it get released spring 2024 still?

Lloyd I would love to see you review the USWE Pace 8 or 12 I love my 8, but it’s only my 2nd vest I have used.

blow air into the bottles, then they never slip down into the pouch! Great episodes thanks;)

If I‘m not mistaken Sally Mcrea wearing the hydration vest from the Brand Camelbak so it isn’t that bad at all I think 😃👍
She's sponsor by Camelbak and sees currently wearing the new Apex Pro that I mentioned in the video 👍
I can’t seem to find your video from UTMB you referenced here. Can you link it in your description?
