Chris, we are not campers but we still enjoy watching your RUclips channel. We like watching you cook and we think your story telling is great. Your reviews of camping and hiking gear is such a nice thing for your viewers (who do camp). I even know how to make a campfire from watching you though I doubt I’ll ever make one. Just 2 things and I don’t intend to be critical. #1 Vestibule is not pronounced vestabull- it is pronounced vest-a-byool. #2 Have you ever considered chopping your veggies before you camp? Quite often they fall off the board onto the ground. Please don’t be hurt by our comments. We’ll keep watching! Lynn and Susanne
I agree with you on this Tent! I have done some upgrading to the tent poles with DAC feather light poles, lighter tent stakes, and ultra light string that wont break up to 400 pounds and wont burn till it gets to 900 f , Tossed the bag and went with a Ultra Light nylon bag for tent. The whole set up is around 3 pounds 11.7 oz.. Going to take this tent from North of GA from Amacola falls state park To Baxter state park. Ultra light tents not for me i had one there a pain to set up! But i am sure many out there would disagree with me and that is ok. This is a very good tent for the money!
Those are great upgrades to lighten the pack weight of your tent! Sounds like a big adventure coming up...the Alps Lynx 1 is water proof but you may want to give it a once over to be sure for such a big trip...seam sealer water proof spray might give you an edge...How to Water proof a Tent | REI ( YT video )might be worth a look.
Today I was proud to get my first REI membership ever and got the REI Trailmade 2 for $107. I’m sure I could have found a nicer tent but the price was steeply discounted and now I’m an REI member!! I couldn’t afford much more anyway.
This tent reminds me of the old eureka backcountry 1 you did a vid on years a go. I bet the rain fly on the lynx one will fit the eureka backcountry one tent? The eureka tent is a great little tent ,only down side it didn't have a vestible. I have the eureka one and thinking about ordering this tent too. I've been researcing ultra light tents for a while now and just can't pull the trigger because of price and a couple pounds weight savings. Your thoughts?
I have this tent and love it .i'm revisiting reviews on it and noticed no windows in the fly .mine has a window on both ends where there 2 diff models ? great video by the way.
For those who have this tent, have you noticed if the inside of the zippers (I should say the stitching either side of the actual zippers) on the fly sheet is seam taped ? Mine isn't although all other seams are. Many thanks
Have you taken this out in the snowy winter? If so, how well does it hold heat? I hear it's pretty hot inside during the warmer months. I would imagine the material is good at keeping the cold out.
Yes just took it out Thursday night at over 9k feet in the Sierras...worked well. Key is to get your sleep system working for you, sleep pad/ bag and even a sleeping bag liner if necessary. ruclips.net/video/B21UMM8mhI8/видео.html
hi. Like your channel ! Like that a lot do you think the 1 person tent can be stronger than the 2 person tent? I mean will the size interfere with that in high winds
I would think that if both tents were staked out / set up correctly and had guy lines set up. They should both be strong in the wind. A larger tent would take more wind. ( both should be fine ) but Also depends on the quality of the tent. Also where you place the tent can help a lot too...behind a boulder or a tree etc...
@@basecampchris oh great ! I'll order the lynx 1 to check if it's okay for the size and if it's not I'll change to the lynx 2 person since both are okay with high winds. Thank u for the feedback :)
My only worry with leaving gear outside in the vestibule is if small animals chew holes in your expensive gear. Maybe the 2p tent would be worth the extra weight. Nice tent though.
I live and camp in high elevations and a 3 season tent means nothing to me as many areas gets below freezing almost all year long. I wonder how well this fares against a high alpine environment and scree or talus. It does seem quite roomy for a 1 person
Hi Paul, Yes, Colorado is home to the Fourteeners...with the rain fly coming all the way down to the base of the tent that would give added protection from the cold. It is tall enough to sit up right but the downside is it will catch more wind...I'm planning an overnighter with it to the Mt Rose wilderness...there is still a lot of snow up there and talus. I'll let you know how it goes! Thanks for watching!
@@basecampchris Cool. I am definitely curious about this tent. I haven't been backpacking in a loooong time and am wanting to get back into it, it'll definitely help expand my photo opportunities. Yet I can not afford a $600 tent at the moment.
Hey Paul, It's currently 95.99 on Amazon! With the full vestibule and tall ceiling there is room....they also have a Lynx 2 with a double vestibule $ 120.00. Will be posting a video later today! I checked out your photography site...Nice work!
Ok, so I am in Canada and just paid $215 for this tent. Did I get completely ripped off?? How am I seeing all these reviews and how people paid $100 or less???
Please reply as I am now feeling regret for my purchase. Why am I paying double what everyone else has paid and should I be returning it at that price?
Yes you paid too much....where did you buy it? They should have a return policy...or tell them that is Price: $109.99 on Amazon as of today ( 8/ 20 ) for a price match. Hi Robert, They sure do look like the same tent...I went to the Alps Mountaineering site and could not find the Koda 1 there, but the Lynx 1 is there,. My guess is that Koda was the original name ( or name it sold under for a time ) and they have since renamed it Lynx 1...I'll let you know if I find more out.
Probably a knockoff of the Kelty Salida (with a few more bells and whistles) or perhaps made by the same manufacturer. If it is the same quality as Kelty, then it would be a great budget tent. Current prices (May 20, 2020) show it below $82.
Yes...very much the same tent ( different color scheme ) down to the 20 sq ft...the Salida total wt. is 3.89 / Lynx 1 is 4.1 lbs./ $82 is a good price....
It may be too narrow, but if so, the style of tent is the problem, not the Lynx. Every 1 person, 2 pole, free-standing tent that I’ve seen is within a couple inches of being the exact same size.
I've tested this tent many times since this video was made 2+ years ago. It's a decent shelter and a good price...still less than a $100 . If you want to be disappointed buy a Walmart tent for $30 bucks and spend a night in that.

Thank you Gabriel! It's a great little 1 person tent....taking it out into the mountains to spend the night soon.
Nice tent hate those long is there anyway I get different collapsible poles for this tent
Always cool videos. Love them
Thanks Sharon! "Keep Hiking!" Wait, is this my mom? :)
I bet you could store the poles on the sides of your backpack and compact the tent even smaller for inside pack storage
That would work.

I like this guy.. I can afford most of the stuff he showed.
Thanks Conrace!
Hi Chris, would you still recommend this tent at this price? Or has something else taken its place? Cheers and great video! :)
I would...the price fluctuates on AMZ ...but I do use this tent for the right situation. ( I have 3 -1 man tents, this is one of them )
A good starter tent.

The seams are sealed and I have had it out in the rain...it did well. Check the Alps Mountaineering website for details.

@@spellerlittlewing What?
Everybody seems to be crying about the weight. Go on a diet for a week and lose a few pounds. Boom, feels like an ultralight.
That's pretty funny! I guess for 95 bucks you carry 1 more lb than you want to carry.
yeah for real, I would rather carry 1 more pound and have at least an extra 100 bucks in my wallet or to buy something else I need.
Actually wouldn't the tent seem like it weighs more if YOU lose weight? You wanna pack on your own pounds. Then the tent will feel like an ultralite.

It’s been $140 whenever I’ve looked on Amazon for the last two weeks. (141.05 right now.)
My lynx is not water proof , :( even the ground area of my tent is not water proof maybe i bought a fake one huhu

No footprint?
Do you know what the difference is between the Alps Lynx 1 tent and the Alps Koda 1 tent? They look like the same item.

$150 on Amazon :(
Daniel Cottrill I got mine for $100 two months ago, but it’s worth $150. Go for it.
Just looked on AMZ Alps Lynx 1 is $119.99/ Lynx 2 is $122.95...seems to fluctuate.
You talked for 4-1/2 minutes before showing us the tent.!!
Vestible.
Way too narrow for me.
Yep it’s a 1 P tent so narrow. Vestibule makes it look bigger. 👀
It may be too narrow, but if so, the style of tent is the problem, not the Lynx. Every 1 person, 2 pole, free-standing tent that I’ve seen is within a couple inches of being the exact same size.
Far too heavy for a three season 1 man tent.
Agreed, that’s why the price is $95 ... the heavier weight is the trade off.
Ya but if there's no threat of rain you can ditch the fly which will probably cut off half the weight.
that would work! more air flow and stars to see at night!
How can anyone do a proper review without testing in the field? Disapointing.
I've tested this tent many times since this video was made 2+ years ago. It's a decent shelter and a good price...still less than a $100 . If you want to be disappointed buy a Walmart tent for $30 bucks and spend a night in that.
