3:15 Flying over Utrecht and then Bunnik, my hometown. Noticed the plane overhead with its landing gear extended. Cool to find the plane here on the channel.
It's not just you I can assure you. US has some of the worst ATC discipline in the world. The same rules for coms exist in the US more or less but they don't follow them much...
@@JohnSmith-zi9or It's quite noticeable with US ATC (and pilots) how everyone is just trying to frantically cover their own butts and it gets tense real fast. These are not things you need when dealing with non normals. What you want is a discrete frequency, no distractions, and thinking along with what the pilots need at that point in time.
Probably because communication is in English, but everyone has a different native language. So you mentally switch to an "ATC mode" to talk on the radio. It's a lot harder to goof around or use weird phrasing like that.
Well handled. As an Aussie who is pretty current on the bus I can't wait to see the yanks saying: 1. They should have declared an emergency. 2. 7700 3. Souls 4. Longer runway!!! (Ignoring conditions) 5. Safer to declare emergency 6. Roll trucks! 7. Prayers and bless to the crew
@@JohnSmith-zi9or Intentions were clear, instructions were clear, hell, there was even some room for some chit chat. They were on a discrete frequency, so they can talk whatever they want without disturbing the regular traffic. We have one of the best ATC in the world and many who fly into Amsterdam will acknowledge that. Eat that!
Either reposition to other flights with the same or and different airline with no extra cost or same day later or next day flight i suppose. Sometimes is not a big problem that gets fixed fast or they have a stand-by airplane to fly them
@@renataavgeri1132 Not sure what happened in this case, but given that KLM is based right there in Amsterdam, they may have been able to swap over to another aircraft. It would still have probably been a delay of a few hours.
@Jay Schafer delay for sure but the fact that they are based in the airport explains exactly why they opted to land back there and possibly to fly pax in another plane

The pilot making jokes about flying over his hometown shows how calm and cool they were.
Gear stuck down is a lot better than a gear stuck in the retracted position 😛

I don't know if it's just me, but European ATC seems a lot more professional than North American ATC.

Love these! Also typical the pilot lives around Zeist, pauper !!
How is that typical? You mean to say the pilot is poor?

Hopefully it wasn’t the landing gear pins that were left in, that’s a pretty unfortunate mistake from both engineers and pilots.
I love how they handled this situation!
But I wonder what happened to the passangers. Do they get a refund, or a flight the next day?
