Matt, I appreciate your doing this video.

The one time I turn of capture design history is if I want to copy a body from one project and use it as a base feature to start a new project and I do NOT want to link(derive) it to the previous design. A simple ctrl-C, central-v is faster than derive, choose object, break link....

Very Interesting! I have never done that one before! Thanks for the comment. Does this happen on a "one off" basis? Like you use one design just one additional time? I just want to understand the workflow in case someone comes up with the question. Derive is helpful but it has to be super specific because when you break that link you do just get a base feature.

@@LearnEverythingAboutDesign I usually use this if I have a body, in my case a fishing lure, and I want to try some different permutations of internal layouts, details etc. I know I could use versions but at least for my skill level in Fusion I could easily not get a working design when I am done.
So I just copy the body I want to experiment with, open a new design, turn off capture, paste it in, then turn on capture again. This also allows me to take a body from a specific point in the time line, where a derive would take the most current body. I can "fork" a design in a quick and dirty way. I could also just save as the current design and nuke the timeline to that point but really this is more for "Hmm I wonder if this will work" type projects and not "Now I need to do X and I am sure it will work." type projects.
      Hope that makes sense!

Totally makes sense! And like everything there are tons of ways it could be done! A couple of notes for future projects and differences.
For Derives, you aren't required to update the version. One way you can get around this and maybe maintain some form of relationship is in your assembly(assuming your body is in its own component) do a Copy/Paste New. The Paste new will copy all of the features in that component so you can keep editing as you wish, but break the link. This lets you do this in the same design without having to resort to cutting off the timeline. You could create a derive from here if you really wanted. Derive is super handy if you want the external design to possibly update. Turning off history breaks your current design.
The links between derives and external reference can be tricky but glad you have a workflow that works! If you get stuck dont hesitate to reach out. support@caducator.com

@@LearnEverythingAboutDesign I am pretty sure they called it Fusion 360 because their are 360 ways to end up with the same result! ;-) Thanks for that tip, keep up the amazing work on your channel!
