Maybe to clarify - 24-120 would be my choice for landscape/travel. 28-75 or 24-70 f2.8 would be my choice for portraits or weddings. Book More Weddings: www.taylorjacksoncourses.com/book-more-weddings-2022
What I have understood from other reviewers is that one of the greatest difference in performance is that the 24-70 has better sharpness in the corners. I don’t know how important this is at weddings, but I suppose that it can make a difference when you are shooting large groups of people.
Thanks! As a wedding photographer, I am strongly considering this lens to replace my 35 which has gotten glitchy. Since 28 is wider than 35, I'm thinking this lens at half the price of the 24-70 is a safe investment for me. So many were reviewing it for street and landscape so I really appreciate the wedding info.
Z6II Been shooting my newborn son and family for two weeks! Originally bought a 50mm S prime and returned for this as I needed a wider shot for indoor.. have found the zoom range to still have pleasing bokeh and just as fast as my F mount primes. I love it man, just came over to mirrorless and my wallet is hurting but I’d pay a few grand in ten years for the photos I’m taking!
"but I’d pay a few grand in ten years for the photos I’m taking!" Absolutely love this, made me smile. Really hits when you're kids get older and their baby images pop up on the Google home. I'm constantly smiling seeing them come up. SO WORTH IT.
Taylor, how does it compare to the S 24-70 when it comes to video? Image quality, manual focusing… Also, does it feel better in the hand as it is much lighter? Thank you!
I prefer the 24-70 overall. But also, it’s a lot more expensive for almost the same thing. The 24-70 2.8 does put images together in a more special way
I've seen some other videos comparing this lens to the 24-70 f/2.8 S and they say it's not as sharp as the 24-70. I'm sure you can really see the difference in a 45 MP sensor but what about on a 24 MP sensor? How is it compared to the f mount 24-70? If I was going to judge a z mount lens I think I would judge it by the f mount lenses. People made money off the f mount system for years.
As a wedding and portrait photographer any idea on how this lens performs vs the dslr 24-70mm 2.8 Nikon with out image stabilizer? Im really thinking of saving on the weight and I have a 14-24 art lens and the z 35 1.8 so loosing 4mm not a big deal for me for weddings plus adding the benefit of having another Z mount native lens.
24-70 f/2.8 is somewhat sharper, especially in the corners. Compared to the f/4 version the 28-75 is sharper at the shared focal lengths and apertures, although the 28-75 doesn't go to 24mm and is physically larger.
Great review Taylor! 👌👍🔝 I have the Nikon Nikkor Z 24-200mm f/4-6.3 I see your point with the 2.8 and will - after your positive review - get and have more use of the 28-75 most of the times I shoot. Always more ”right” gear…😨
Hi Taylor. Do you think 35mm 1.4 is need ? Im thinking to get 1635 f2.8 and use it instead 35 1.4 as I can use it wide for location & group photo and 35mm for normal portrait. My other body will have 50 or 85 mainly for portrait. What do you think ?
A perfect midrange for me would be a 35-85 2.8.... still waiting for that magical lens to be made. :) I feel like I would have purchased this 28-75 2.8 over my 24-70 2.8 if there was an option when I bought the 24-70. It doesn't take anything away from the 24-70 though, as you said in the past there's an intangible quality to that 24-70 2.8 that makes the images look great. I'd totally buy the 28-75 and save the $1k though. LOL
I'm a wedding photographer and I shoot with the Nikon z6II, for a while i saw you shooting weddings with the z6ii now mainly the r6 or sony. I do struggle a bit in low light with autofocus on the z6ii and have been researching. Most of the photographers I shoot with use canon R6. Is the Nikon z6II autofocus just not what the others are?
i use a z6ii for my weddings and i see all sorts of mixed brands with other photographers, but i feel if you focus on what you already have vs buying a whole new system and spending tons of money then you'll just get good at the overall craft. autofocus hasn't really bothered me and i get good shots when dancing with the guests during reception.
Looks good, wouldn't have a problem with using it at the wedding. However, if you don't shoot weddings, but you do shoot portraits than the new 24-120mm f4 will give you better compression and bokeh at 120mm f4 than the 28-75 at 75mm f2.8
Thank you for the material! I'm sure it's great and I respect your work. I was hoping to go back to Nikon. In principle, the choice of camera is determined. Unfortunately, Nikon duplicates the standards of the DSLR system. RAW photos show how terrible this lens is and its optical quality is poor. Photos at 2.8 do not have microcontrast and are not very sharp in my opinion. This mio is reminiscent of low-light 35-75 series lenses or poor prime D under Nikon F lenses. Holy shit! Nikon get to work instead of copying some shells from other manufacturers. Sony has a full range at pretty good prices. For Astro there is 14 1.8, then the 24-70 series (and there are good 4.0 and 2.8) and finally telephoto lenses. In Nikon we have some combinations, gymnastics and acrobatics ... the function ring changes, the screen appears and disappears, the S series with extreme tubes like 24-120. Lack of consistency and quality in design and production! I was thinking 20 1.8, 17-28, 28-75, 105 (macro) and 400mm 4.5 but I have to verify it very much!
I wouldn’t judge the entire system by one lens. This lens is also available for Sony as tamron. The Nikon 24-70 2.8 is the best 24-70 ever made and the Nikon 20 f1.8 or Nikon 14-24 2.8 are incredible for Astro
I would prefer 24-120 Sline for wedding and portraits TOO. It has no rival. 2.8 is good.. yes. But 120 is better even at f4 make the backrounds more out of focus than 75 2.8
I heard Sony A7iv has autofocus issues. If you are getting Sony, maybe wait until they have fixed the eye autofocus. It's currently focusing on forehead and eye brow.
You can't go wrong with either. As a Nikon shooter I can tell you - I prefer Nikon's ergonomics and the quality of the Z glass. But that's me. Sony has amazing AF and good third party lenses. Best to try it in store!
I know you wont be using this lens as much as u say because loosing that 4mm in the wide end means a lot to a wedding photographer. Having a 24-70 2.8 u wont be even thinking of this lens for urself . ok I get it Nikon asked u to promote!
I use 2 primes on wedding days personally. Widest being 35mm. I think I’ve brought a 24-70 or similar to one wedding in the past 15 years. This doesn’t mean it’s the wrong tool for everyone though. Especially if price is a concern

Is it worth the price? Is the difference enough to upgrade to 24-70 2.8?
I just purchased the Nikon Z 28-75mm f/2.8 and just tried it out last night in a poorly lit gym and the action shots came out fantastic.
What I have understood from other reviewers is that one of the greatest difference in performance is that the 24-70 has better sharpness in the corners. I don’t know how important this is at weddings, but I suppose that it can make a difference when you are shooting large groups of people.
This is the review I’ve been waiting for. Thank you!

That extra $1000 you’re saving can be a 20mm 1.8!
Very true
I'm choosing between 28-75 and 24-120 f4. What would you recommend?
Same, did you choose one?
@@donnachun yes, 24-120 f4. Great for traveling, landscapes. I also have 50 1.8, 85 1.8, 35 1.4 for portraits and lifestyle photography.
So fixed or prime which lens as a beginner?
thank you for this review. i'm about to pull the trigger on a z5 and a 28-75.
How was it? Planning to get one for my z5 too.
I'm planning on buying one for my Z5 also, any feedback will be appreciated
Thank you for providing the raw files!!!! So helpful
Taylor, how does it compare to the S 24-70 when it comes to video? Image quality, manual focusing… Also, does it feel better in the hand as it is much lighter? Thank you!

I needed this! This was a timely review.
I'm going to try the tip about white balance. I usually have mine just set to auto.
Tamron 24-70 2.8 or the Nikon 28-75z?

The 24 to 120 is more suited to landscape photography. I may pick ip the 28 to 75 for in house work.
Is it only about 4 mm or is it a quality difference from 24-70 f/2.8 Z? What about comparing it to the 24-70 f4?
24-70 f/2.8 is somewhat sharper, especially in the corners. Compared to the f/4 version the 28-75 is sharper at the shared focal lengths and apertures, although the 28-75 doesn't go to 24mm and is physically larger.
Another thing, both 24-70s do a lot better with flare at night than the 28-75. At least in my experience.
Great review Taylor! 👌👍🔝
I have the Nikon Nikkor Z 24-200mm f/4-6.3

I'm sad this town is mostly gone now. :( Lahaina was our favorite. Anyway. Thanks for the video. Was looking at this over the 24-70 f4.
I have a request. Could you tell me what to choose? Nikkor Z 28-75 or Tamron 24-70 G2 with FTZ. I need for weddings.
Best regards
Same thing
Excelente video 😊!

Tamron makes a 35-150 f/2-2.8 for Sony. And it’s a beast!! So good.
@@wAAltz93 It looks so good! What amazing times we live in. :)
Would almost eliminate a need for primes
So, is it worth getting the 24-70 f2.8 over this? (Does the 24-70 have a more special "feel", apart from the extra 4mm?)
Yes it does. But it’s not a thing that you can really quantify haha
That floral shirt... is fire.. had to check my closet to make sure you didn't get it from me lol
What do you think how it can work with a Nikon Z fc APS-C ?
I'm a wedding photographer and I shoot with the Nikon z6II, for a while i saw you shooting weddings with the z6ii now mainly the r6 or sony. HUH? wait what?

@@C_itsNemo Yes. More pleasant bokeh. More focal length 120mm plus less focus distance means you have more blur. And not only more, but better
Nikon Z6ii or Sony A7IV for Weddings an Family ???

I wish the lenses didn’t look so generic.
Just put puffy stickers all over them. Dinosaurs and squirrels
