I've been on Valproic Acid for 7 months now. I experienced the tremors, hair loss, and weight gain. And I'm here to see if I'm also experiencing other side effects that I've possibly shrugged off. I'm using it for the treatment of bipolar disorder II.

This medication doesn't stop any seizures in my son but can cause more after given he is 15 months old and has been on it for 6 months roughly is this possible that this medication causes more seizures after given

Your son should not b given valproate as he is below 3 years of age which can cause liver toxicity in him .....he should b treaded with ethosuxide ....then also do consult your doctor !

Hi. The most common adverse effects of Valproic acid are transient GI effects such as nausea, vomiting and anorexia which occurs in around 16% of patients. This might lead to an initial weight loss. To avoid these GI effects, valproic acid is started gradually. NOW having said that, increased appetite and weight gain has also been seen occasionally in some patients on long-term valproate therapy, the mechanism of which is not very clear. So, both weight loss and weight gain can be seen with valproate treatment. Regards.
