9:32 - So, when Sam was afraid of being trapped inside a monster, his fear was correct, his mind remained untouched...he was aware the whole time. Holy fuck, that's so scary.
We knew that already with Tess...
If you notice on episode 3 when ellie show the knife on the trap stalker? The stalker look and traced the knife
Told my kids I had athletes foot before, when they asked what it was and I told them it was a form of fungal infection I swear I think they were plotting to kill me afterwards 😂.
sleep paralysis would be the closest feeling of being unable to move yet aware.
Hey Jaby, a fellow Pharmacist's note... Those journals in the video (16:53) are legit coz they are from a reputed publisher aka Elsevier. It is the most common and reliable journal in the world. The publishing house puts out only cross-referenced research by multiple capable people.
What do you have against Springer!?
@@monojitchatterjee3185 😂😂😂didn't think about Nature while answering sorry. It's coz most of the references i have in my research are from Elsevier coz they contain loads of Pharma Journals. I go on Springer Nature sometimes as well but not as much as Elsevier. Dw i support both 🤣🤣
Using realistic, if not probable, science in the show makes it even more chilling, I have seen this in nature shows before, and there is a patch of Fungus in Eastern Oregon that is over 2500 sqr acres and has been shown to send signals underground like in the show, so cool
The Quaking aspens...
The fact the creators of The Last Of Us research & used a real life fungus for their zombie apocalypse videogame rather then just make 1 up shows real dedication to the science & realism of the world they created.
Just goes to show you that reality can be scarier than Fiction
that's why *2022 World Cup Final* will still be the Greatest Sport Event of all time
and no Scripted Series/Movie would ever top that!! Ever.
all those emotions were real, and backstory or the road that we all took to get there isn't just there is the made up Story
well except the way the fungus is portrayed in the tv show and games bears little to no relation to how the actual fungus works. The game/tv producers confuse all sorts of different fungi into Cordyceps. The way it's portrayed in the game/show is complete bullshit
Or was it just a convenient fact floating on the internet that got picked up?
@@redcardinalist
I think the bigger writing flaw of zombie world building in films and shows is the incompetence of military specifically the United States military…
This is frightening as hell!
Sometimes reality is scarier than fiction…
Thank you guys for making it entertaining and funny really appreciate it!
Sending some love from Europe.
I love it when you guys watch slightly off-topic, yet on-topic stuff like this. Yeah, the idea that the fungus doesn't, in fact, take over the ant's brain is somehow worse. Not just because of the horrific experience for the ant, but because it almost implies that the fungus itself is "intelligent" enough that it knows how to puppeteer this foreign body, using all its separate limbs in tandem, etc.
So... not so much a zombie (as the brain itself isn't infected directly) but an unwilling puppet.
That's somehow so much worse.
How to make Mind controlled Zombie:
Make a Locked-in Syndrome Puppet.
Now that's a horror movie idea, imagine monsters like the last us but they're aware and can't help it, it would be horrible !!!!! Imagine a crying monster chasing after you at full speed screaming I'm sorry or something like that
🙄🙄
That is totally what happened to Tess in episode 2 she was trying hard to hold onto her physical self as her mind was being trapped by the cordyceps. That's why she made out with infected boy she was being slowly locked in her own mind.
That’s absolutely terrifying
Yo that is some next level IQ unlock like damn when u put it like that nice one
I love how hyper Jaby's reactions are, with Steph being as cool as a cucumber 😎 You 2 always make a fun pairing 😆
I'll tell you right now, I was looking at some Keto type coffee and they have something called Mushroom coffee and one of the ingrediants is Cordyceps! I kid you not LOL!! I was like, oh heck no!
They sell Cordyceps in capsules as a supplement.
Yeah but the cordyceps used is foods and medicine are caterpillar cordyceps another species of cordyceps than this ant zombie cordyceps plus its already dead on the host body when it is harvested and it is pretty safe and fetches upto 40000$ per 1 kg so yeah
Steph was the perfect person to react to this LMAO, honestly, the whole snail bit, Ive heard of it before, but ugh, too much
If anything remotely similar to Last Of Us happened I think the effects would make people euphoric and want to get close to you. I don’t think it would make us as violent, but maybe be creepier because people would want be extra friendly and get up close and personal to spread the spores, so you’d have to stop/kill them for being too nice.
fungus is not that intelligent
Parasitic fungus doesn’t have to be aware of what it’s doing. It just has to have the right evolved instinct, knowing how to develop where in the body and create the right fungal structures + what chemical processes to hijack. It’s not a matter of taking over our consciousness, but learning to influence us in a way that allows it to reproduce. It’s less effect in spider and mammal species because such animals are less common than ants, and the fungus that develops in those bodies has to learn how to grow in the new body systems as well, through information it gathers and natural selection
22:08 no joke, as soon as she said “and eat mushrooms” I jokingly thought to myself ‘then you should try hello fresh!’ 😂
Very good video guys. It would be scary as hell if Cordyceps does take over someday.
Jaby doesn’t need to get infected, he’s already a fun guy
That's why I love Nat Geo and discovery channel... I knew about these parasites long back... Bcoz of that I had Sushi only once in my life 😅
No half cooked meat ever.
Real science is a great channel all her stuff is really cool, been watching this channel for at least a year
Can't believe Steph called the pandemic 'pandie' 😂
I for one, welcome our new cordyceps overlords.
“Something’s in us…we’re not right”
Never has a statement been so funny, and existentially-unsettling 😂😅
11:42 idk is anyone has ever noticed it in the opening of chainsaw man, when makima feeds denji some kind of snail its this one which literally says it all how makima controls denji. Thats some good easter egg in the opening of chainsaw man
Such an interesting topic.
The thing that REALLY messes with you after watching this video is when you realize as a longtime cat-owner, that people like my dad and mom could also notice if my cat had an accident, and while it never bothered my dad or myself, my mom said the smell was unbearable, and that we have a history of bi-polar schizophrenic symptoms in our family. So I guess my dad and I are already toxoplasmosic cat parasite zombies 😢 🍄 🧟♂️
15:14 another movie plot right there. people doing mass su side after getting infected and movie is about survival from it
The happening has this exact plot
Fun Fact: There are approximately 20 QUADRILLION ants on Earth. A number that is "unimaginable," unless you're Wren from Corridor Digital....
Jaby casually dropping better call saul reference is kinda awesome..
@Jaby you should definitely watch Ed Yong's talks if you are interested in science. The information in this video is very similar to his Ted Talk
just watched this documentary this morning
ahhhh brings me back to my parasitology and fungus courses in undergrad; Tarantula Hawks are gnarly too
Yo!! This is so crazy!! That snail reminded me of hipnotoad from futurisma
You should take a look at the 2016 miniseries Braindead after this zombie ant talk.
Wait. It got more episodes than i remembered, so it's more a limited series than a miniseries.
There's already a last of us theory based on this. Near the beginning chapters of the game, you can actually hear zombies crying and shout "no.....i cant", etc it was something like that.
The person is actually trapped inside their zombified body. This only works for recently turned zombies though. After that, the person dies and cordyceps has full control of their body.
I THINK THAT FOR (FUNGUS) OUR MIND IS MUCH MORE COMPLICATED COMPARE TO LIKE INSECT OR ANTS AND IF THAT'S THE CASE THEN IT'S JUST THE MATTER OF TIME IT LEARNS AND CONTROL LIKE IN THE VIDEO OTS SLOWING DOWN OUR REACTION TIME OR LIKE THE MEMORY SO MAYBE IDK AND PLEASE THIS JUST THE SHOW AND WE HAPPILY MADE OUT OF IT BUT WHO KNOWS COULD BE 👀
Not sure if This Is That one, but I have heard of a fungus or parasite that are in cats that literally affects humans' brains into Liking/Loving Cats...
"Still doing your taxes" 🤣🤣🤣
Fun fact. Fungi are related closer to mammals than trees!
Cordyceps does this to other insects as well . While all this looks horrible, Cordyceps mushroom is one of the most expensive in the world and has been proven to enhance exercise performance and positively influences heart health as well .
I should not have shown this video
New fear unlocked
Now i can't sleep tonight
Learnt from this video: Never get a cat, not that I wanted one in the first place.
the cordyceps don't control mind, he does muscle control, the ant is fully conscious during this period, wich makes it more terrifying
i wrote this at the beginning of the video :/
You guys killed me with the Mario and Alice in wonderland comments 😂😂😂 Stahp! 😆
Lol jabi I feel you on the ants 🐜
Ahh yes! _JABI_
basically, ants became facists to keep their societies safe from fungus...
Someone goes to get the mail. You look out as they climb a tree. 🤣😅😬
The car bit was better than anticipated. Thought for a moment they were going to say it subtly told us to turn the wheel towards danger like the mice with cats.😅
Try Kyle Hill, the magnificient science Thor
We are DOOMED
I think it's high time we get a studio tour jaby!
Lol whenever you need to say that first word that was bleeped, just say Dr. UGGs:)
Does Cheesing from South Park ring a bell? The characters sought out cats to sniff their urine and hallucinate.
"But NOT sniffin' cat urine!"🤣
we all are already under control of fungus and it is watching jaby's channel not us
Short answer: No. It cannot.
It can take over insects. Cordyceps is a type of parasitic fungus that infects insects and other arthropods, and uses them as a host to complete its lifecycle. The fungus enters the body of the host, grows inside it, and eventually kills it. In some cases, the fungus can alter the behavior of the infected host, causing it to act in ways that benefit the fungus's reproductive cycle, such as climbing to a high location and clinging to a leaf or twig before dying, which increases the chances of the fungus's spores spreading to new hosts.
While it is true that some fungi, such as the genus Aspergillus, can cause infections in humans, these infections are not capable of controlling human behavior. Fungal infections in humans can cause a range of symptoms, including respiratory problems, skin rashes, and fever, but they cannot infect or control the human brain in the way that Cordyceps fungus can infect the brains of insects.
Now for that other parasite that makes you allergic to meat.
"What up Braw?"
the channel isn't Getjaby anymore?
New Fear unlocked, fear of petting cats
The crazy cat lady next door makes new sense after this video…..
Could these parasites be the cause of metaphorical "Karens"...?
😉
Thanks for the nightmares! Goddamn!!!
Who knows maybe some where somebody experimenting on this fungus to evolve it
Ants really don't bother me even though when i was young i was standing in a anthill and had them all over me.
Its that movie
Yup I'm gonna go hide this is way too freaky.
Only cockroaches and mosquitoes gets me the heebie jeebies.
You should not be scared of cats because of this. While this parasite is harmful to babies its not the only one. Many parasite viruses and bacteria can seriously damage a growing fetus so you are going to have to be tested and treated regardless. Just make sure to stay healthy and the baby should be fine.
There was a subway system in Japan designed by fungi
Oh my god Jaby 😭 please react to *Pedro Pascal Vanity Fair Lie ditector interview* ⚰️ and *Pedro Pascal & Oscar Isaac Most Searched Question on the internet*
The answer is no since it doesn't commonly transfer from human to human and we are the top of the food chain. So we won't end up the meal of predator regularly enough as most parasites need to complete their complex life cycles. STIs are very successful at transmitting for a reason.
Fungi are the undefeated emperor. Accept it.
What if the parasite is learning about the human body
Hibi Jibies 🤣
I
What if right now, the fungus has affected only scientist and making them produce more ways to spread the fungus 🙂🚶
Cordyceps would have to mutate and grow far more powerful to effect humans.
Saul Goodman lives too
This fungus is making this ants disable alive...!
I knew about some of these but not all of them.
Something like this is explained in hindu text kalki where it's said that human will reach a point where we will end up eating each other because of sickness
its true cat poop is considered bad in our home
not bcoz its gross which it is
but bcoz it affcts our reaction time
I was watching this while eating my pasta
This was a hard video to finish ngl
The glory
9:47 reanimated until your are an Uchiha😅
I think it's only dangerous with cats that go outside. I keep my cats indoors for that reason. They're more exposed to a ton of diseases.
It's like get out
I kinda wish this will be real. The world is too boring nowadays. We need real adventures.
Wtf dude
@ 00:40 , Sabraw's Fart face
If age was to prolong, child birth better be a rare event
This is why I eat all my meat and steak well done
Im itching like crazy watching this!
If you are about to start watching ?.
" DON'T "
💀
To creationists and believers in some God - if you really believe in story - this fungus was a passenger on Noah's ark
Hey! I have four awesome cats...!
Causation does not mean correlation. Most of these findings fit into that, sadly it is not mentioned in this science-driven video....
Well that’s great 😬💀
Heh....Zombie Fungus = GF. hehehehe...
Can u please react to Toy Story Zero by SuperCarlinBrothers
Time to leave earth
At ease disease. There's a fungus among us.
Jaby has unhealthy insectophobia ( whatever the real word is )
