    Oh my fucking god I love this knife. Lc200n is maybe my favorite steel. Ergonomic masterpiece, cool color. It cuts like a monster! Punches way above its weight. Top three spyderco’s in my opinion are the spydie chef, stretch 2 straight spine (k390), and this version of the salt.
    Just an amazing tool.

      I like LC200N for how duper sharp I can get it, and SPY27 is kinda the same for me sharpening-wise ! I'd even go to say that it's a better VG10, sharpens like a dream and cuts more than long enough.

      @@ramonade_knives I feel like Spy27 is an easier to sharpen S35VN

      @ramonade_knives 2 года назад +1

      @@NedKnives Totally ! S35VN is really nice to sharpen in my experience, but SPY27 just wants to get screaming sharp. I won a random giveaway organized by Spyderco and they sent me a Manix 2 LW in this steel. Sharpest knife I ever received, and after 2 sharpening it still cuts receipt paper standing on the table.

    hahahah, this sounds like me for the past (at least) 6-7 years. The native is by far and away my favorite spyderco and one of, if not, my favorite folding knife of all time! I'm always preaching your exact sentiments. It does do everything beautifully. The big difference in the natives backlock is that it is a US made knife. I've always found pretty substantial differences in spyderco's USA made backlock and their other factory's backlocks (seki city, etc). I run professional kitchens for a living and am always outdoors in one way or another, so knives are always in my hands. It's the perfect edc knife and the perfect knife that can behave much larger than its footprint suggests. It's equally at home opening letters and packages, cleaning fish or other game animals, or just general heavier use tasks. Man I love a native 5.

    • @ramonade_knives
      @ramonade_knives 2 года назад +3

      Amen to that. I live in France so US made is not that important to me, I respect everything as long as it's well made. And Taïchung (Taïwan) Spydercos are really well put together too. But yeah : Native 5 = favorite folder ever for me.

    I can sure feel ur love for it. Kinda wish they had a slightly larger version to fit my hand, but I guess I could go with a Manix, though it wouldn’t have that classic Native look and design. But I think, based on what I’ve seen, along with your comments, that the Native 5 is a perfect EDC knife for many - inside and outside of “Planet Erica” 😉👊

    My Delica 4 has probably the smoothest action out of all my lockback spydercos. It is the stainless steel version, however i don't think that makes any diffirence. My frn Native 5's and pasific salt 2's also have pretty good action, and i noticed that the spy27 version of my Native's, dropps shut just a little bit easier then the mint M4 version, I mean it pretty much falls down feeling like the blade is completly loose when i push down lt lock. It might just be the tuning, however i have a suspission that not all spyderco knives comes out of the factory as good, one Delica 4 might have better action then the other :)

  • @kwong7058
    @kwong7058 2 года назад +5

    Should try the spyderco straight spline stretch 2 with K390 steel. There's the finger choil, thumb ramp and ultra durable steel and LW multi-directional scales.
    Mine came out of the box with pretty much free floating drop shut action, the spring tension bar is weaker compared to the G10 scale version, making it easier to open and close smoothly.

    If they ever make the Native 5 Salt with a compression lock I'll be obsessed with it, too. Love the steel and the color, but the back lock isn't my favorite. Maybe mines just stiff... Great video as always!

    • @ramonade_knives
      @ramonade_knives 2 года назад +2

      I have a lot of Native 5s, especially LW. Some of them came really stiff from the factory, and tuning the pivot didn't change anything. For the 2 that did that, simply disassembling it, cleaning it and reassembling did the trick ! It even thumb/reverse flicks out for those who'd like that.

    I see a fair amount of people talk negatively about Spyderco’s but in my experience of owning many many of them, my USA made Spyderco’s have performed exceptionally well. The heat treatment always seems to be good, the materials are quality, and most importantly they are designed to perform. I also can’t really say anything bad about the Taichung models either but I will say that the Seki models seem to be hit or miss these days and would be my last choice when it comes to buying a spyderco. They just don’t have the same feel as the USA made spydercos.

    • @kpfagerberg
      @kpfagerberg Год назад

      All of USA models have come with great grinds and super sharp. The Japan factory has some issues with that and the action. I returned a Salt 2 in LC200N because the lock rock was so bad

  • @ZPositive

    I told you thats the best knife Native 5 FRN.

  • @nandayane
    @nandayane 2 года назад +1

    LC200N is kind of similar to 3V, gets up to 60HRC, very tough, fine micro structure. I can see why you like it. The Native 5 LW’s back lock is super nice much better than the seki spydercos.

    • @MFD00MTR33
      @MFD00MTR33 2 года назад

      I wouldn't say lc200n and 3V are similar at all.
      Lc200n can get to 60-62hrc, lower carbide(mostly chromium), highly stainless, medium toughness nitrogen steel.
      3V can get to 63-65hrc, medium carbide(about 3% vanadium), semi stainless, high toughness PM technology tool steel.
      They have nothing in common really except that they can be used in folders and small fixed blades. What makes you say they're similar?

    • @nandayane
      @nandayane 2 года назад

      @@MFD00MTR33 both are high toughness steels, both are run at similar hardness in production knives, They have similar edge retention to toughness balances, with lc200n being about 10-20% less tough and about 10-25% lower CATRA edge retention. LC200N has a very fine microstructure so it sharpens up extremely well.

    Back lock Schmack Lock...I'm from the old Spyderco days, the Renegade was my first one. Think that's bad? Try an old school Cold Steel Triad lock😂 Strong as a bull, but you have to grease em with Lucas Red N Tacky #2, work it, rinse it out with WD40, clean that out and THEN use your regular lubrication. People said its not "Drop Shutty" . Well one Christmas Eve my Vaquero PE XL fell shut on my knuckle and I had to wash it, dump it full of alcohol and superglue it shut😂...its sure as hell dropy now. I have an older Delica. Never has dropped shut. I don't care. It works.
