- With fuel prices at an all time high , consumers are finally starting to take electric cars seriously and companies too are showing interest in this new market.
In the first episode of our Ev series , we talk about the basics of an ev , living with one and the drive experience.
This series will cover electric vehicles in detail and will showcase the three most popular EVs in the country - the Tata Nexon ev, Mg zs and the Hyundai Kona.

When you talk about the topic CHARGING of EV, could you guys please talk about maintaining battery capacity ? Like,
1) Does constant use of high speed charging decrease battery life eventually ?
2) Any effects of irregular charging cycles ?
3) By any chance if the battery get dead, how much one have to spend for getting a new battery approximately ?

Very informative as always. Do have a session on ECU remaps and mods for cars. Most of us are ignorant about the same and very apprehensive about the effects it has on our cars. It will be a good topic, also something rarely discussed in forums.

Please include the economic aspects also since sixty percent of the cost of car is for its battery. I mean if you are using the vehicle after the warranty period of the battery ( or the second owner) , you have to install a new battery unit which is really expensive. So in that sense is there any economic advantage when compared to a petrol/ diesel engine in a long term use.
It's an important and very relevant question !

Currently Nexon EV is the best selling elecrtic vehicle in India.
1. Good power and torque
2. Price is affordable though range is little less
3. Hyundai Kona is very expensive.
4. Though MG is a british brand, current it is under the control of saic motors, Mg is known as chinese brand and people is more centric about indian brand now.
5.TATA motors is celebrating the fan base and people are now more concerned about indian brand. Fit and Finishing is now top class though service is bad, people are taking this as it is indian brand.
6. Now tata is getting a equal diesel demand for ev also.

Regen braking can happen only if the battery can accept charge,if the battery is fully charged ,there will be little Regen braking.
Interns of braking,Regen brakes and foundation brakes are used together,Regen happens when gradually slowing down and then finally blend to foundation brakes.If you slam the brakes,you would be using foundation brakes and Regen will be less.. thought you could have mentioned these points as well...

Bros informative! 🔥🔥 How much will a battery pack cost in case of a replacement needed perhaps after 8 years....
30%-40% of car price
~ 40% of car's price. But compared to a petrol/diesel car, you will save a lot of money, like a lot of money in those 8 years. And battery price will only decrease in the coming years. So battery replacement is not an issue.

With the current rate of increase in petrol price, just imagine what will the price be after 5 years. A 15000 km run per year in a petrol car would cost you above 2 lakhs worth of petrol in coming 3 to 5 years. Add to it the regular maintenance, oil changes, other general wear and tear common to ICE cars. So in 8 years, you would spend almost the price of a Nexon EV, just for petrol.
And, just like our phones/computers or any electronics, we will get more advanced batteries after 8 years, and current ones(abroad, it costs around 5 to 6k dollars now for the Kona, though I'm not very sure of this) will become much cheaper in the future.

Regen braking (recuperation) is very low. but that helps us drive with one pedal only.
I used to feel bad while applying breaks as it is a waste of energy so better try to plan ahead.
While EVs give you bit more juice even while breaking.

Only concern is our kseb. We need to push for solar panels in every EV owner's house.
Plug in hybrids are the best for Indian roads (city in electrc-30-40kms only & petrol engine for long drives - 30-40litre tank)but very expensive.

There is a slight inaccuracy in what you said. EVs are better in City traffic not really because of regen but because of lower speeds. At higher speeds the wind resistance eat up a lot of power, much more than other factors, and that leads to inefficiency. In fact if you go on flat highways with city speeds (with zero regen) and cruise control that will be the most efficient.
So the advice to go at constant speed without much braking is good even here. If you use cruise control that it is even better.
Pls consider doing a comparison video of these 3 available EV and also about the upcoming options in next 1-2 years. That would be useful for many prospective buyers.
