      Did you know there was a another doreamon anime adaptation made in 1971 that predates the 73 series but it was done in another country which is the country of Mexico but all episodes of Mexican annotation of doreamon are long gone and there were no screenshots or even footage or a promo of the series but I remember watching one of the episodes on a projector in a Mexican anime convention in the mid 2000's I remember the art starting look very similar to 1960's Japanese anime that was Mixed with Looney tunes and the animation look pretty limited kind of reminded me of a general Mills commercial and the only changes of the series is that Nobita wearing a green shirt instead of yellow or red and Shizuka looked very older and she was wearing a yellow shirt instead of pink and the studio that produced series change her personality which the show absolutely randomly are for 101 episodes so series is a forgotten that application and the adaptation looked kind good but not really because of some some changes of the characters

    As a Singaporean who used to watch on Kids Central and SPEEDY dubs at the time, i might have watch Doraemon at one point. Sadly, i can't remember the exact voices as i was still a young kid but i am 100% sure i have watch Doraemon because i use to watch it all the time on local channel.
    Unfortunately, Kids Channel were rename as OKTO in 2008 but sadly shutdown as a standalone channel and merge with Channel 5 in 2019. Possibly due to low ratings and more people move to streaming.
    As for SPEEDY, last i heard it went bankrupt in Malaysia due to COVID and the rise of internet doesn't help as well.
    With all these problems, the dubs are 100% lost. Hate to say it but it's just impossible. We never really focus on preserving shows here. Heck, even local shows are lost.

    There's another Doraemon lost media I'd like to talk about. It's the lost mexican-spanish dub of the 1980 movie Doraemon: Nobita no Kyoryu (Nobita's Dinosaur) localized in Mexico as Robotín, Pepito y el Dinosaurio. It was supposedly the first attempt to bring the Doraemon franchise to Latin America. Not a single remnant of this dub has ever surfaced the web and the only info we've got about it is the voice actors cast for the dub and witnesses of users who watched this dubbed version back in the 90's and early 2000's.

    I discovered Doraemon from the Story of Seasons game and fell absolutely in love with its charm. When I first started playing it I was disappointed because of not being able to marry and have kids, which is usually a staple for these farm life sims, but the charm of the series quickly overrode that. I didn't know a thing about Doraemon before but now the characters hold a special place in my heart because of the endearing personalities.

      @@AllThingsLost I've found that non-English vowel-sound pairings seem to be the hardest for a lot of people. "Ai" is usually not an issue but "Ao" and "Ae" are. Especially with how similar they sound to "Au" and "Ai" to the untrained ear. As for the "R" sound, that takes a lot of practice for non-native speakers because it doesn't really exist in most other languages. Your mind also wants to default to the Americanized "mon" used in "Pokemon" and "Digimon".

  • @maxwestdraws3834
    @maxwestdraws3834 3 года назад +14

    I have two theories as to why TBS and American television passed on that English Cinar dub of Doraemon. First, it was because television executives thought it wouldn't appeal to American viewers. In spite of Robotech, Voltron, Maple Town, Saber Rider and other anime on US television in the 1980s, they may have thought it wouldn't catch on; this did happen with the ill-fated Harmony Gold dubs of Dragonball and Dr. Slump. Second, perhaps risky content might have worried the network in-house censors or even raised ire of media watchdogs; they had a lot to complain about in the 1980s due to violence on television AND the merchandise-driven shows like Transformers, He-Man, GI Joe, Care Bears, Rainbow Brite, etc.

    As a Malaysian Doraemon fan, this is somehow unsurprising to me. Malaysia back then has to pirate everything because we were still developing. And many of these did hit nostalgia for me. I owned one VCD of Doraemon back them which I accidentally broke as a child. the video quality was terrible and it was in Malay. We loved VCD because not only is it cheap but also it will not rot as it is basically a CD with video pasted on it. I still own a few VDC that is still playable to this day. Speedy is also our blockbuster, it was the only place in Malaysia to get Blu-rays and DVDs many of which have become official distributions. But just like Blockbuster, they went out of business a few years ago. I tried to support them but there was only so much one man can do.

    You should do Olympics lost media. The one I always think of is the picture of Fred Lorz and Alice Roosevelt at the 1904 Summer Olynpics men's marathon. Fred Lorz was unable to finish the race and had to ride in one of the referee cars. The car broke down and Lorz decided to re-enter the race, finishing in first and having his picture taken with Alice Roosevelt, daughter of Theordore Roosevelt. Lorz was found to have cheated and was promptly banned from competing again. As far as I know, the photo is lost

    It's such a sad fact that Doraemon never got that popularity it deserved in U.S even tho it was released in 2014 eventually run for 2 seasons altho it was plagued my questionable edits, name changes, character personality changes. I'd rather watch the indian hindi dub version over english one (which is what i grew up with and is mostly faithful to japanese version). Doraemon has so amazing moral and historical messages but disguise as a kids show.

    Funny thing about Taiwan making an unauthorized Doraemon movie, they weren't alone in bootlegged Doramedia. For the longest time, Hong Kong published their own Doraemon (known as "Ding Dong") comics without the consent of the Japanese copyright holders. It ended, of course, with the official release of Chinese language comics in the region. Any other small details I'm fuzzy on. I remember reading about it in some old coffee table book about Hong Kong produced comics, and unlicensed usages of characters they didn't get official media of were pretty common.
