Breakfast skillet in a jar

  • Breakfast skillet in a jar that my family likes. Some older food stores that my mother-in-law put up before she died. My father-in-law couldn't bring himself to throw them out so he brought them over for me to take a look at. Other than the jars being really dusty and a bit grimy the food inside was perfectly fine.

    When my mom's aunt died, her husband distributed several jars of her bread and butter pickles amongst family members. For three years we had Aunt Jennie's wonderful pickles on our Thanksgiving dinner table.

    Hi. This is gatewaypreppergal. This channel was hacked and have not been able to get into it for years. Thank you for all the kind comments. To those of you who asked, this mix can be cooked over hot coals in a three legged cast iron cauldron. Stir to keep from burning the bottom. Again, thank you. I really do miss this channel.

    We say the same thing about the weather here in Maine! I am an ingredient canner but I will be the first to say that I need a rack of ready meals because when my caregiver isn't here I either can't cook or I won't bother to. We made navy bean and ham soup last week and she took home enough for a week for her little boy and I was still left with a ton! We made 14 quarts but I'm under the weather and really need soup right now and I thought that would be great for me. A healthy soup but very very tasty! My favorite thing to eat is breakfast but I don't eat until between 10:00 p.m. and midnight so you can bet I'm not going to do a lot of cooking at that hour unless I have already cooked food here or in my food saver bags in the freezer. Thank you for sharing! I just found you and you seem very interesting to me.

    Dem-er-air-a, mostly this is used in coffee. You CAN use it in tea but most tea drinkers prefer to use white as Demerera does has a slightly fruity taste. Sugar wont go off, it is after all, a preservative.

    • @janflaherty3819
      @janflaherty3819 7 лет назад

      Anne North I agree. Demerara sugar is good in coffee but as a British woman we would never use it in Tea. Some people might but I never would. 😁

    • @kathyb3606
      @kathyb3606 3 года назад +1

      I make sausage crumbles. I fry my sausage in cast iron skillet. Drain all the fat off by pouring cooked sausage in a colander or strainer. I then rinse the cooked, drained sausage with hot water. The water rinse is to remove as much sausage grease as possible. Again drain water. I then take cooked, rinsed and drained sausage and place on my food dehydrator rack/s. Follow drying temperatures. And dehydrate the sausage. Once dehydrated place in clean, sterilized jars, add oxygen absorbers and vacuum seal. Hope this helps.

    You could definitely hear the "Whoosh" noise that indicates a vacuum has been breached, so her seal on that jar was perfect, Oxygen absorber notwithstanding.
    P.s. It's pronounced Dem-Urr-RARE-Ra/Dem-Er-Rare-Ra. The Urr/Er sound as though you were trying to remember something, the U sounds the same as when it's in front of Urban (not Umbrella)/the Er as in Ergonomic. Hope that helps.
    Did they even have Oxygen absorbers back in the day? Even if they existed in the 1800's, I doubt those early Homestead wives could afford them, and nobody got poisoned. Wouldn't tamping down the big lumps in that Cheese powder make a bit more room before adding the veg? I've got that upright food saver vacuum sealer too, I lusted over it for years before I succumbed to buying, I wanted the extra width that it seals, my first food-saver wasn't wide enough to seal a plated meal.
