- Arctic Mistress is an invitation. As well as a celebration. It tells the story of why I went there to do my filming. I wanted to know her; this Arctic Mistress. “A place so pure and so full of emptiness”. I wanted to see if it truly existed. I wanted to do this; before it was gone. Before the “icebergs melt into tears”. A turn of phrase I personally feel is possibly one of the best lines I have ever written. My co-writer Bryan Potvin wanted to convey a sound-scape of cold and distant imagery with the shimmery guitar and I wanted the melody to match this. So the words and melody needed to be spacious - like the arctic itself. They needed to lay hauntingly on the chord structure as words do on the wind itself. I wanted the lyrics to convey a longing to actually know this white, wind swept and distant land. I found out that it was not so distant after all. I got to know it personally. To breathe in the arctic air is to breathe in pristine nature itself. The winds blow across thousands of miles of cold white snow and into our nostrils giving us a high stronger than any drug. A cliche has long existed and it is this; that the Arctic takes a little piece of your soul causing you to always desire to return. I have experienced this enough to know that it rises above cliché and becomes a beautiful truism instead. I felt that this meant that the arctic is a lover. She is my lover and she “calls me back home and lays like a beauty upon her bed of ice”. Longing for my return. Waiting for me. Confident in her own beauty. If a man or a women has in their memory the greatest lover they have ever known, I believe the Arctic landscape embodies this memory in the form of a hypnotizing white and frozen beauty. And that is why and how she steals a piece of your soul. To breathe in the arctic air is to change your life.
Sounds great Les.
You Rock Man, I've watched your videos for years 🙌
This actually kicks ass extremely hard and if I was seeing it from over a campfire instead of a computer screen I think I'd tear up a little
Uwu daddy
I heard you years ago on Joe Rogans podcast and you played a couple of songs on there and I loved them. You have such talent Les, thank you for uploading this.
It’s a very emotional song , you lived every word of it. ❤ Thank you for reminding us of her beauty 🙏🤙🤙
This man can start a fire with anything, even a guitar!
…
I freaking love this song; the new mix is kick ass! I’ve been dealing with the blues for a while and when I’m feeling down I turn this on and mentally reset.
Wow beautyful song man!
Never knew you have such a voice!
Simply amazing. Nothing but respect and admiration for this man. Beautiful explanation of the lyrics too!
Absolutely beautiful.
I 100% think I'm dyslexic because I initially read this title as "Artistic Mattress". I mean I know I am slightly, but that one was bad, it's usually just like p, b, and d that get me
Gorgeous song..amazing talent..reminds me of growing up in the UP..not the arctic..but the northern lights were spectacular. It’s hard as we see the strange weather patterns up here in the north..warm, springlike temperatures in the middle of winter when there should be snow, we have flowers sprouting.
I believe I am definitely survivor man's greatest fan Les Stroud I am proud of everything you have ever done especially of Sasquatch work
Awesome song, playing and singing. Thanks for sharing it with us! God Bless you!
I have followed you for years. You are what we refer to as the jack of all trades. Thank you for what you have given. I hope it all comes back to you.
This song speaks to me. Thank you Mr. Stroud. This is the best version yet!
Cross between Phil Collins and Seal. ABSOLUTLEY BEAUTIFUL! Les, you should do a concert at the Toronto Zoo so the animals can hear your amazing gift of music.
Nice job Les! Looking forward to more. Thank you
I picked up the guitar this January.
Learning fingerstyle/strumming.
Slow but steady. Have a goal to play a few songs by thanksgiving.
Cheers
BEAUTIFUL
Almost 1 million subs Les Stroud. Soon you'll have to go back out there. Let's hope that other 200k that used to watch you follows through.
Two words come to mind with this massive monster mamma jam.
The song title.
One love from Treaty 4, Canada.
Love you Les! Long time fan! You’ve taught me a lot over the years. These others don’t do it like you.

Heard this at the end of the VR Game! Great song man.
Thank you so much, Les! The Earth is proud of you. I would have liked to say that we Canadian's are proud of you, but your various explorations, reach, and influence is far more global! You are a true talent, of many genres. We are all lucky to have you!
I love this so much. I remember when this single was released on Spotify. I listened to this on my way to the Les Stroud concert in Clearwater at the ruth eckerd hall. Sometime back in 2016 i think. Incredible concert. He even did a Q+A with the audience where you could ask anything. and I remember i asked Les, “what is your favorite beer?” And he said Guinness. I remember listening to this song thinking this sounded a bit like Pink Floyd to me. It still does. 😊
Awesome song brother. Fantastic performance and beautiful J200!
hello from slovenia..

Great performance Les. 👏 This is my new favourite song.
❤
👍👍👍👍
Wow I want to see you in person
Nice Music for the new year 2024.
Amazing!!!
Hi Les. You inspired me as a city/suburban child to explore the great outdoors. ‘Survivorman’ opened my eyes to much that I never knew existed when I was little. Now as an adult I am constantly seeking new ways to enjoy nature. My passion for being outside all started with Survivorman, and it continues to be my favorite show. I have multiple healthy hobbies outdoors, where before tv/video games was it. Thank you for that lifelong gift! Be well. (Ps - my mom became a fan of yours in the last year or so, she loves your content too.) Thanks again.
Hi!
Love the acoustic version Les. Cracking song from your fan from Dublin, Ireland.

Les- Missed your smile 😄
Wow very impressive Les I play and sing myself. And I do this thing sometimes where I go out into the middle of the Pine Barrens in the middle of the night while you see I'm from New Jersey and sometimes I like to drive out after Dark in the middle of the Pine Barrens where my grandpa used to take his hunting me and my uncles when we were kids we have a spot out there called the beer tree and it's got beer bottles hanging off the tree and some of these bottles have been on this tree since the 1970s it just seems like me and my family or the only ones that know about this tree because there's not anybody else's stuff around there anyway sometimes I like to go out there in the middle of the night and I take out my guitar and I start to sing and play don't know exactly who I'm playing for but I often wondered if Sasquatch or dog man or whatever if they can appreciate music the way we do pretty sure they can. And you know it's one thing if I'm out there just playing my acoustic but I have a converter where I can plug in my amp and my electric guitar mind you I'm not really playing Metallica or something like that out there in the middle of the night though I do hit some grungy cords at times but for the most part I'm playing you know soft kind of mystical almost hypnotic rhythmic but the sound carries and in the middle of the night when it's just me and my guitar and I have no lights on man I got to tell you it gets kind of creepy and often wonder if something did come sneaking up on me if it would be scared away if I burst it into some grungy Hard Rock wrists and cranked it LOL but I'll tell you what it's a totally different experience
This song has been on repeat the last couple days for me. Hopefully we'll hear it live at Red Lily Vineyards this summer!
And here I thought you just played harmonica! 😂 keep rocking man
I love your work, Les. You got me out into the wilderness, and I have never been happier. Thank you!
Very nice performance. A good song. Cheers, Les! ✌️🇨🇦
Didn’t know you played guitar, and so well at that. Grew up watching survivor man and this is cool to see
I think you're voice resembles the singer from Uriah heep in the early 70's. Definitely feel the vibes.
Thank u for being an inspiration to me I was born in Huntsville lol I love u and ur show thank u for teaching me how to be a true muskokan lol
The imagery in the lyrics is great... multi talented dude Mr. Stroud
The chord progression is just magic, the lyrics are so deep.
Gives me Incubus vibes. Very well done!
Such a beautiful song Les, I’ve been a fan since I was a kid and still watch and follow your teachings to this day. Thank you so much for everything you’ve taught us ❤

Wonderful music, wild and free
I NEED some tabs of this. Jeez
Very talented man!❤
Great song to listen at work
👍
hell ya dude
Awesome!❤
I like this. I'd probably like it a lot more if it it wasn't "artic air" and more "barefoot hair" but that's just me thinking of how easy it would be to make this into a song about Bigfoot.
First!!
Wow! Very talented 👏
