@Kenzitee There is actually a realistic explanation for that, sort of. A lot of small touristy lines use diesel and electric engines that are built to look like a steam train without actually being a steam train. If you need a realistic explanation, I hope this does it for you.
Steam engines, when burning their coal very cleanly, often have no visible smoke or steam from the chimney, versus dirty when coal is immediately burned and the majority of soot is created before they get hot enough and get enough oxygen to burn as, well, very hot coals. If atmospheric conditions permit the steam will not cool down and condense into a white puffy cloud of steam. Boom there’s your realism ;)
