    The person walking around was the version of her that had retreated into hiding for a year. During that year, her and Joe were isolated. I think she is warning him that they go public that the paparazzi will be really bad. But also letting him know that she can't stay locked up. So she is asking him are you ready for it but also saying I need to get back to my life.

    You picked up the right impression from this. Taylor in black represents the evil, manipulative, persona that her haters/media created and labeled her with to put her down (resulting from the Kanye/Kardashian nonsense) and that creature sets out here to destroy the true Taylor in white who is the real her inside.. sweet, kind, and pure. The real Taylor draws on her inner strength to defeat her bad reputation in the end. Classic good vs. evil confrontation.

    the music video is basically, the taylor portrayed by the media holding the real taylor captive, and turning the real taylor into something she isnt

      @youremymymymyLOVERRR Thank you for the response! I've watched it a few times, but need to watch with your perspective. Taylor often writes with multiple meanings in her lyrics. • @robertthompson7242

    There really isn't any wrong interpretations; if you get an impression, that's valid for you. She gets autobiographical in a lot of her music; but in 2010 she said she decides what emotion a song should evoke, and real life details are less important than the impression the song ought to leave; she will add details to make it more "real" to the listener, but a lot of that is her craft in songwriting. And, her videos are intrinsic to the songs. Some of her songs didn't get a lot of love --- until after the video dropped. She's about as creative visually as lyrically.
    The snake under her skin ---- Kim Kardashian dropped a social media comment about her on National Snake Day ( 2015? 2016?) that was all snake emojis; Kim dropped an edited phone call between Taylor and Kanye West. Taylor disputed the content and context of the call; Swift was crucified as a liar in social media. When you watch Reputation World Tour film, you'll see a lot of snakes. (and, eventually, the full phone call was released --- showing how much it was edited). On the tour (and on her live I Did Something Bad performance at the 2018 AMA awards) she had a huge inflatable cobra rise up behind the stage. She called it Karyn; maybe after the insufferable bigots people make videos about? ("Karens")

    Taylor's mom had hopes she'd be an equestrienne ---- until she was 12 yo and decided the guitar smelled better. She's still pretty comfortable on a horse. The white horse is frequently used for the hero in literature (cf: The Lone Ranger; the knight in shining armor). She's named one of her songs (Fearless album, 2008) White Horse in that sense of the (non) hero's symbol; and used white horses (and white deer) in her Blank Space video, which parodies the media image of her as a super rich and insane serial dater.
    Video has been compared to animé and some guys have said it reminds them of Descent II (? dunno, didn't play it). I worked retail; setting is pretty obviously an abandoned mall. The narrow corridors is what exists between shops for the service and delivery people. Joseph Kahn directed all her videos for 1989 and Reputation albums. Hint: she pays no attention to cost in her videos; like, ever. She always had top rank directors; and she's a fast learner. She's been producing/ storyboarding them a long time; in 2019 she started directing them too.

    • @April-zb8fk
      @April-zb8fk Месяц назад

      Robert how did you know about her mom wanting her to be an Equestrian? That's so interesting. I've watched a lot of her old interviews and documentaries, but I haven't come across that.

    • @robertthompson7242
      @robertthompson7242 Месяц назад +2

      @@April-zb8fk friend, I'm 66, and trained as a librarian/ intelligence analyst. Ran across it several years ago.
      I wasn't paying any attention to music at all for years; my Mom died of breast cancer (and age; she was 84) and I was stuck clearing her estate when the crap about Tay not being _allowed_ to sing her own songs came up. Copyright laws were something I did in grad school (for fair use, and books/media, etc.)
      So, I researched this kid I'd never heard of; listened to her album, then spent 6 months searching for interviews by date, taking in whatever I could learn. Radio, TV, talk shows, awards.
      First listen to Rep, and I bought everything; got a bit obsessed with just how good she was. Haven't heard anything like her since the 60's.
      If I had to guess, I probably heard it in two places: a radio or talk show interview from the Fearless release, or the Journey To Fearless film (bc she included a lot of that sort of footage). There were also some local Nashville media interviews, from when she was 15 or 16.
      fwiw, I don't have social media accounts at all; when I was Army, my sections did security analysis and oversight. Nothing about cell phones is secure; social media has been hacked many times because it is just absolutely porous. And, usually ends up full of keyboard toxicity anyway.
      cheers! more than you wanted.

      @@robertthompson7242 Thanks for the response! Your background is really interesting, and the intelligence analyst work sounds like it was a lot of fun. I thought I'd watched the pieces you mentioned, but I'll have to go back and look for them. Not that it really matters, but I love that. I took English riding lessons for about 3 years in high school. Taylor looked really comfortable on the white horse in her Ready for It music video. It makes sense she would have ridden. There were videos on their Christmas tree farm of her mom leading a pony with Taylor on it. It's so lovely to hear how you fell in love with Taylor! I especially love your comment that you hadn't heard anything like her since the 60's. I see so many comments from men saying Taylor has no talent and is overrated because all the greats were in the 60's. I don't care if people are fans, but it's so inappropriate to criticize someone when you've only heard 1 or 2 songs on the radio. Misogynistic/sexist bs. They're mostly irritated a young woman is so successful.

    The Reputation album is the only album where the title isn't a song (after the debut, which was her name). A lot of the album concerns what people say about her (and she takes that persona to write some of the songs). If you do much Taylor, you might think about reputation and persona, and how what is said or repeated (or put out by a PR person for the label) is all fabricated.
    I saw the two Taylors not as "old" or "new," or "good" and "bad" ----- but as her way of showing that both images are artificial constructs. Or, maybe stages she's going through. It just crossed my mind, too, it's maybe a metaphor for her escaping Big Machine Records (the old label) which sort of boxed her in; she was a lot lighter hearted for the next album. (and, she drops Easter Eggs sometimes a couple years ahead of time.) This album completed her 6 album contract with BMR; and she bailed as soon as the Rep tour was over.

    • @April-zb8fk
      @April-zb8fk Месяц назад +1

      I don't know how to interpret this video, but your thoughts are interesting. Taylor so often has multiple meanings to her songs. The only thing I strongly disagree with is if you're saying Taylor's image is an artificial construct. Taylor is so genuine and authentic. We all show different sides of ourselves in different settings, but I think Taylor has been very consistently the same person since she was a teen - which was her goal, to stay the same person. Obviously, she's grown up, but her soul, her personality, the good Midwestern girl - all the same now as when she started her career.

    • @robertthompson7242
      @robertthompson7242 Месяц назад +1

      @@April-zb8fk go back and watch the long pond sessions, or her documentary. She talks about the need to be a different person for the different people in her life; that people always are playing a role in life. Sometimes several roles the same day.
      A lot of her public persona is real; but it is also constrained -- early on, by the label, what the publicist warns her to avoid, by the necessity to censor herself (she isn't always polite in lyrics or life). The image created by what she allows to be on the records, hence seen / portrayed on stage. That is a role; and Taylor is a good actress.
      The other construct (artificial persona) is the one the media made her out to be; Blank Space, I Did Something Bad, Don't Blame Me etc.
      When I say "what she allows to be on the records" ---- in an interview in 2008, included in The Journey to Fearless, she says she'd written 150 songs, and all the songs on the Fearless album. . . .. if you count the ones on her first two albums, we got 24 of 150 songs. She's just a lot more complex a person than her critics make her out to be; and less of a saint than some obsessed fans want her to be. In short, normal.
