@@RonGerstein Well, at least the Mets performed better in the Yankees. If the Mets somehow managed to advance to the World Series, the Yankees would have been swept.
There used to be a north side of Queensboro Plaza, given to the BRT/BMT, which operated trains to Corona/Flushing and Astoria using ancient wooden BRT elevated cars. The BRT/BMT subway/el cars terminated at the north side of Queensboro Plaza. All station platforms on the Astoria El were too wide to accommodate anything but the narrow IRT subway/el cars, Manhattan Elevated cars, and BRT/BMT el cars, until 1949. Both elevateds were served by trains from the Second Avenue El (remains of connection still visible) and the Queensboro Subway (Steinway Tunnels). A storage track for BMT/BRT subway/el cars ran along the Corona line almost to Rawson Street. Second Avenue El trains to Corona terminated at Willets Point Blvd., or 111th street; but BMT el cars ran into the subway at Main Street-because the BMT permitted wooden cars to use the subway while the IRT did not.
I’ve been waiting for this video eagerly. This is my favorite train line. I was born in beautiful Flushing and still live in Queens today and am always so happy to take the 7. Fastest train, best connections. We have it all!
4:48 those ‘90s-era black fence panels around the turnstiles are the style usually found in IND stations. You can see the usual IRT/BMT type at 15:28 at Hunters Point Avenue (which also has a piece of the IND type over the closed staircase at 15:36). The BMT/IRT ones were meant to complement the more complex tile accents in those stations, while the IND ones went for a simpler, curvy look to go with the streamlined tile bands and art deco street staircase railings.
Ah! My favorite NYC Subway line growing up as a kid and 82nd Street-Jackson Heights was the hangout spot where my mom used to love to eat at the Colombian Cafe.
