idk why everyone is commenting dub
very dub indeed george
Because its really dub
quite dub tbh
Dub for the win.
I could very well be wrong, but could it be that his voice comes from another track/video? It sounds too clean.
His hands and vocal cords are handmade by god himself or what? This is literally the first time i've seen him and im already in love with this guy.
who is this man?
@@MrBealvie Dr John
@@MrBealvie Dr. John, a New Orleans blues musician.
If you like this, start with the album 'Dr John's Gumbo', which is full of New Orleans classics and party songs, or 'Dr John plays Mac Rebennack', which is a solo piano double album.
Also, if you haven’t checked out “the band” before please do. These men greatly influenced my musical development.
I was watching a man I had never seen before. Then he opened his mouth and out came a voice I had heard all my life. What a moment.
Why does his voice invite nastalgia and comfort to the table?
@@danharoldpetiluna8902 for some of us because he sang the "Blossom" theme song - ruclips.net/video/oLYXWLvJBRc/видео.html
I'll be honest I haven't heard of this guy, but he does give off strong Nina Simone vibes
@@danharoldpetiluna8902 Because he's Dr John and he's awesome, and also sings the "Right place, Wrong time," song!
I don't know why I feel like Ik the voice soo much
This is from the "Learn Blues Piano at home with Dr. John" series. I watched these religiously on VHS when I was just starting to learn piano. My favorite part was that at the beginning of each video he seemed super nervous. Then about halfway through the lesson you'd see a half consumed glass of bourbon on the piano and he'd suddenly seem so much more comfortable :)
Dr. John was one of the most influential musicians to ever fly under the radar. This guy worked with the best of the best. His only big radio hit was "Right Place, Wrong Time" but his list of work spans decades. Look him up playing blues with the late, great Johnny Winter and you'll see how it's done.
His name is spoken when musicians talk about musical greats.
If you like Dr John, you'll love James Booker
@@ard45387 He's also great
He was amazing in The Last Waltz. HE NEEDS MORE CREDIT!
I heard of Dr. John because of his cover of "Cruella De Vil". That version had so much sass. Definitely going to listen to more of him now.
I wonder if he, himself, was in the right place, just at the wrong time
The way he plays piano has "New Orleans" written all over it! The sound of that city is unmistakable.
That voice crack @ 1:16 followed by another was incredible.
true
I love this series of Dr John educational videos. They're all just "OK, you just play this" followed by a blur of hands and immaculate left hand syncopation. 😄
Imagine being so effortlessly cool that Jim Henson makes the leader of the Muppet band a fairly brazen miniature version of you. Dr. Teeth, I mean Dr. John was absolutely remarkable. By some miracle I was able to see him perform live twice, and both shows are treasured memories.
Oh, wow! I did not know that. Well done!
I don't know what is more impressive; his piano playing or the fact that you can transcribe this
I was introduced Dr John by my piano instructor this fall, I’m glad to see more people sharing his work!
his sense of rhythm after the intro is impeccable
Indeed!
Saw this utter legend at the Sage, Gateshead in about 2009. To my shame I’d never heard of him but my then-girlfriend said I’d regret it if I missed it. He was getting on a bit and took a couple of tunes to warm up, but once he shook the rust off his hands the man set that piano on fire, and his voice was even more characterful and expressive than in this video. By the end of the show the room was yelling and whistling like they were watching a 25-year-old rock band, rather than a man in his twilight years. Thanks Lindsay, you were right about a lot of things.
my grandma used to tell me how she had science class with Dr John and he would always be late or missing from nights of late gigs and partying
0:45 to 0:49 sounds so goddamn good to me. I need a whole song that has the same feel
Check out Dr John, Etta James, and Allen Toussaint live in Chicago 1982 and skip to about 6:45. The intro into Such a Night gives me that kind of vibe
@@noahpatrick667 Such a night is one of my favourite songs. It's just great
Also sounds a bit like New York State of Mind by Billy Joel imo.
@@tim298 I was about to say the same thing

there ya go
If you gonna do Dr. John you're gonna have to give us some Professor Longhair and some James Booker too. Get all the New Orleans piano greats some transcription time
That nod at the end. Like "yeah I said everything that I wanted to say".
It's the Night Tripper himself, Dr. John, American Hero
Never overlook Dr Johns psychedelic phase, just absoloute crazy
Indeed!👍
Could you recommend me a song?
@@MasterMeijer true, albums perhaps?
@@sir.bendover3299 im not sure on albums or songs but just go look up his name and take a dive imo, never know what youll find
@@sir.bendover3299 for albums, you can't beat Babylon. It's hard to find but well worth your efforts!
I've never heard the song sung that way. That was a nice change and enjoyable playing. Thank you.
Thank you! I've been hoping for this for a long time.
Nice as always.
He breathes groove💨🎹
Love the way he plays! I’ve learnt so much from these Dr John dvds. 🙌🏼🎶
"My legs are permanently shattered, but I'm feeling groovy!"
I got the pleasure to see him perform in 2016 in Albany NY. It was my daughter's first concert, at 6-months-old. One of the best shows I had ever seen. I'm so glad I got to see him perform before he passed away.
Transcribed by Tony Williams.
Where’s the double time swing?!
Dr John is nothing short of a god when it comes to blues. His Accentuate the Positive is incredible
Met this guy at house of blues Dec 27 2002 , my hero
He has literally the perfect voice for this
This reminds me of my brother's graduation (Tulane), where Dr. John was the featured artist. He was playing a rendition of "Saints go Marching", and the Dali Lhama (there as the speaker) walked over, sat at the throne, and took over for an improvisational solo.
Lol
Now you need a "the grooviest guitar groove ever"
Which one would you pick, brother?
I found this a couple years ago and was waiting for it to get the attention it deserves
Request: could you transcribe some Mongolian throat singing? Bukhu Ganburged or the Hu would be awesome! Thanks for your dope videos!
Please transcribe Mongolian throat singing!!!! Ahh George you’re so awesome!
YES
Gosh darn it I need to practice more. I love this style.
“In thankfulness to The Band and all the fellas. Uh two, three, four, one…”
Saw him live at an outdoor concert in Baton Rouge a couple of years before he died. At one point, he shook a staff of rattling bones for a couple of minutes as a solo. Legend. RIP.
That bass is so rich. I had to listen again. Is that a Baldwin? That is a damn well played piano played to its fullest, deep into the keys, and producing some of the best quality that piano can produce. Such relaxed technique. Who is this GOD?! Dr. John indeed! That must be a real doctorate, cus I am learning just from hearing him.
Dr John is one of maybe 3 artists that I never got to see in my lifetime and I regret never going to see them. All of his releases have been incredible, and his cover of Wade In The Water is probably one of the best ones out there. RIP to the Night Tripper
Finally, the legendary Dr John on the channel!
My man feels it in his soul
The GOATED saint
I had never seen trilling (or I like to call it affectionately variating) annotated that way. Now I understand. Plus, for blues to transition into boogie woogie like that...Holy HECK
RIP Mack Rebenack AKA Dr. John. The last master of New Orleans style piano.
I love Dr. John and his piano playing, idol.
Dr John...nothing short of a legend.
I saw Dr John in around 1989, the only front row seat I've ever scored. He had 2/3 of the Blues Brothers horn section with him too.
damn that blues piano was really something else, what an absolute boss this guy is
This channel is so good
More Dr John is what the world needs !!!!
Love Dr. John. Love his singing. Love the New Orleans blues. This rolls. Such groove! Funkiest vibe on planet earth. Just makes you wanna dance!

Dr. John, the original blues and tinkle man….saw him live a few years ago, and that concert was on fire 🔥
Thanks for trying to transcribe the almost un-transcribable 😉👍
When the voice croaks like sausage on the griddle, you know the song fucks

I'm amazed that someone can play that with only two hands.

Dr. John is severely underrated!
George!! You have to transcribe “Qualified” from the same DVD

This youtuber collects videos of musical geniuses
I’ve always known Dr. John as a guitar player but I guess he’s also crazy good on keys 😂
I would love to see a bts of you putting this to sheet music
Saw Dr John in TAURANGA (where I live, look it up - a.k.a paradise) in 2010, he was only 69, and looked a lot older, but sounded just as good as this, playing two pianos at once.
Great horse racing in Tauranga :)
@@ImpmanPDX Interesting, not really my thing. As a whole the sport seems to be dying a slow death, kept alive by gambling addicts mostly I think.
@@TheJamesRedwood I don't disagree. I work in the industry internationally from the US. It's a bit of a dated sport but despite being younger I'm an old codger at heart. NZ has some of the prettiest tracks though helped by the overall amazing scenry.
@@ImpmanPDX Nice of you to say so. But it now seems like you are a marketing mole using social media to encourage gambling.
@@TheJamesRedwood That took a bit of an aggressive turn. I came here for the Zydeco and Dr. John. Not a petty squabble with a cynic. I was trying to be nice about a country not my own. What a shame.
