Decoding Away Luggage Suitcase (TSA007 combination lock)

This was a fun journey to learn how to exploit this lock. I wasn't expecting the gates to be so viewable, but it is not impossible to decode this with zero tools and the naked eye. For my suitcase the tolerances were very high making that process very time consuming. Instead I used the sparrows decoder to feel for the gate, but any thin piece of metal will do.

Thank you. It works!
I didn't have a feeler gauge so I positioned my light to see the reflection off of the metal barrel. I rotated to combo until the reflection changed. After that, the five clicks steps worked perfectly.

this is the way. use a flashlight and magnifying glass, and when you turn each number, pay careful attention to the reflection. really works.

This worked for me too. Just look for that one number that has a reflection or mark that is different from the other numbers, then add 5 mumbers each. Thanks a bunch!

IT WORKS!!!! I felt hopeless trying to feel for it using the edge of a paper, pin, nail file etc and tried to just guess it from 000 to 999 then I gave up at 340 then flashed it with light and just used my eyes. Got it in less than 7 minutes! :D

I was about to order this tool or something like it to pick the lock on a suitcase I couldn't access. I did some math. There are 1000 possibilities with a 3 digit lock that goes from 0-9. I got in it in 5 mins. Takes 17 mins to try every combination. This might be helpful to some folks out there.

Absolutely, this video was meant to be an exploration of the weaknesses in this lock. Turns out the public at large have found use in it. Brute forcing is always an option, but that wouldn't make for a very interesting exploit here. Additionally any thin piece of metal or plastic would suffice here, for example cutting a thicker water bottle.

Thank you!! Used a business card to feel for the tolerances. I felt confident about the first 2 numbers so when it didn’t open on the first try I was able to guess about the 3rd number and it worked!

Fantastic! And yes using visual cues is also a great way to achieve this. It does depend on the tolerances of your bag, so two identical bags might allow for the visual method while the other might not

This works great and takes literally 3 minutes, just look for these little divits by the numbers for all 3 and then just rotate it five and you unlock it

A PAPER alternative. Excellent advice but I didn't have a feeler gauge so I used a piece of paper instead which did the job. I used the corner of paper used in a printer.

There is an easier way . I held the lock tsa slider and while holding it just spin each dial . You will know it’s the right number if the dial can’t spin anymore . Didn’t use any tools . Made me wonder if these are even necessary 😅

I suggest you use your wide palm of your hand to hardly scrub the rolling code while your other hand spamming the button to open it.. somehow in a couple of minute it ll magically open itself
