+FishNerd2000 Thanks I am currently in a large rebuild process for all new videos utilizing insane level of filming and photography! Will blow these videos out the water in quality overall!
0:32 Mr. Crab -I can use this plant to disguise myself! Megatron (suddenly can't see Mr. Crab, and decides to return into his watchtower) Next frame Megatron (spots the disguised Mr. Crab by using his highly advanced optical telescope) Mr. Crab -I've been compromised! (drops his disguise and runs for his life...)
+Gideon Okun This is the weight for weight most powerful of all stomatopods, if they got larger like the bigger smashers they would be very dangerous and pose great risk to tanks not designed to with stand them.
Kinda makes you think how crummy the human body is when it comes to combat. No offense, no defense, can't really get a deep bite on anything. Then nature comes along like ; Ok, so i'ma give this thing two massive claws. Seems to be missing something. Oh i know! Full body plate armor. Perfect! Now for the shrimp. Giant hammer.. NO.. TWO giant hammers!
I mean posable thumbs and the cognitive ability / brainpower to create all that we have is kind of better than anything any animal has. Hence humans being apex predictors and stuff.
+One Swood Grommet But if we didn't have the intellect, we would have gone extinct a long time ago. The only thing special about us is that we can run the longest out of all the mammals
I just upgraded my lights to ReefBreeder Photons, LED Fixtures. (Shell Rot is more about Water Quality then actual lighting, light is simply the catalyst that allows it to spread fast if the it is present in the water, if the water is very clean then the disease simply will not be present, thus the lights will not react with anything that isn't present). The most prone to shell rot that I know of is actually H.californiensis, this species simply shouldn't be kept in an aquarium at all, they succumb fast...next up would be the O.scyllarus however they can thrive in lit reefs with adequate water quality (think water to grow SPS, if the water is at that quality then an O.scyllarus won't have a problem with shell rot but will still need very well thought out premade burrows. G.ternatensis is another that can get shell rot but this species should be avoided in general. There aren't that many "large" smashers and it's only the "Large smashers" that are known to really be afflicted by the disease, nearly all species 90mm or less are immune to it because they live in bright, parameter fluctuating zones, like the coastline/rock pools etc.
***** Their a species that likes to hang out in a specific type of coral and the coral is often destroyed in the process of seeking out the animal...the trade off is not worth it when such devastation is reaped during an attempted collection.
I was wondering what you think about the Xenidea family coral?I had a pulsing xenia that was very nice.I never really knew anyone who had them that actually"pulsed".I think mine did because i used to have ocd water quality lol,and lots of circulation. Also I noticed the corals in your tank, and wanted to know if you propagate them? Thanks for the reply!
RSX type S mobbin their a nice coral fairly basic and simple care levels I have never kept them but I have seen mates who have and theirs pulsed at same time I have seen others who did not pulse so Im not sure about the mechanics behind the pulsing... The mushies I propagated very simple solit in half make sure a bit of mouth is on each half.
+Mantisman™ Very nice!Thank you for the fast reply I appreciate that!I have another question if you dont mind lol.Have you ever had any tridacnid clams before?Thankyou
+Mantisman™ ok... i'm sure you've been asked this a million times before but i'm gonna ask anyways. Have you ever heard of a webcomic called the oatmeal
+Gideon Okun It is much louder, I am getting a Hydrophone to capture the in tank sound of what you will hear with the 'Phase 2" videos soon to come and MUCH higher quality to! I'm talking TV/Cinema level quality!
Now I understand how in the Alien movie franchise rich people are obsessed with finding the perfect organism lol. Watching this shrimp with other marine life is like surreal outclassing
+Dijaknow What, Megatron =D ? I called him that because he shared the same color scheme as Megatron in the cartoon series transformers (White/Grey/Pink) and yeah as far as the smaller smasher species go this 1 species is king of them all and a real badass (of allll mantis shrimp, this species is the pound for pound hardest hitter).
20th Nov 2017 Hello Fans I am still alive I need to set something straight as I know some of you are worried/frustrated with my channel. Firstly, I will state that I am obviously still alive (no mantis got me yet!) and yes my channel is still very much active irregardless of what it appears. So what's been happening? I've had to make new plans and abandon my overseas mantis shrimp ventures not because of funding or anything like that but because it turned into a nightmare that I certainly did not foresee prior to setting up overseas (I knew there was going to be difficulties but nothing on the level of 'discrimination' that I endured)... The overseas part of what I do was meant to go for a few more years but I grew tired of spending half of my 6months overseas on each trip, repairing, rebuilding the mantis shrimp system and I kept finding that by the time it was all up and running I'd only have 1-2months left of each 6month trip to actually photo/film mantis shrimp in the tanks... I wasn't meant to come 'home' until I achieved a certain 'level' overseas but due to the difficulties I have been forced to cut my losses short and return 'home' now this does NOT mean it's all over and I've given up...far from it. The overseas part of what I'm doing was exactly that, an inevitable 'part' that was to be overcome and then 'finished' so that I can return 'home' and continue, the return 'home' signified my largest, most expensive, state of the art, insane mantis shrimp system that was to be built in a few years time except due to the Overseas failure my hand has been forced to move forward faster and thus... I have begun building here at 'home' my biggest and greatest mantis shrimp aquarium system to date, sparing no expense and utilizing only the best equipment that you generally don't find in aquarium stores due to their price (due to their quality) but far more than the aquarium system alone is the Digital Studio built into the room designed professionally and specifcally for the professional filming and photography of mantis shrimp! I hope to have it all finished/built with water running and mantis hunting by the Feb-Mar next year, it is a monstrous build that encompasses so much more than a mere fish tank... What this new aquarium studio will allow for me is to finally create videos daily/hourly for uploading with minimal downtime which is it what we all really want and on top of the sheer quantity, the quality will be only the best, I've invested far more into the studio than into the aquarium itself, because I utterly REFUSE to use cheap nasty cameras like mobile phones etc. the amount I've spent and continue to spend on the studio alone just to make the best footage for YOU!... :D It's ALLLLL for you guys LOL there is no catch 22! Your patience... Your dedication... Your understanding... Means the world to me and once I'm up and photographing/filming again I will reward you with sights and sounds of stomatopods that you have yet to ever SEE BEFORE!
Wow, the mantis has some serious moves...the crab got one or two pinches in but the mantis tail is a seriously underrated weapon. It has spines and quite thick and can easily draw blood. But it helps them against other mantis shrimp clubs and that's saying something. They are quick too with almost cat like agility in the water.
This is the Matisman, he's dedicated, creative and above all a mantis. U seen antman, batman, Spider-Man,.... Now meet the new superhero Mantisman, he was not bitten but punched by a mantis shrimp 😂
It' like watching a horror movie. I ain't exactly a vegetarian, but I feel bad for the crab. Locked in a small glass tank with that thing that comes out of the hole in the wall.... to eat you?
Isn't there a risk if you feed them something with claws? Maybe I'm just paranoid but if I had one I'd feel the need to take pincers off its food before feeding. Or is this hardly a concern?
+450asg idk why my shrimp shattered my nano cube but i was just playing Battlefield when it happened so I was able to save my peacock shrimp... Learned that its worth spending money on a custom half inch thick glass aquarium if i was gonna get these little guys
How bout something with bigger claws? All I see is these mantisshrimp whoopin crustaceans smaller than it... that's not a badass ... a badass whoops opponents larger than it.. ex: Mike Tyson, Bruce Lee, sugar ray Leonard,
Don't dismiss the crab :) Stomatopods are not immortal they aren't invincible and I/they have certainly had their share of scares and close calls....it's a risk to the Stomatopod as much as it is to the crab. Also I personally believe that to keep and care for such an intelligent organism (Stomatopods) would be cruel to NOT allow them to utilize their intelligence by offering them challenges. Finally, they do NOT survive on live food, in fact Live Food is a very very small part of their diet, 90-95% of feedings are prepared foods.
Tefani Lin I love your support I love anyones support that stands beside me and I promise in time it will be rewarded.... :D I will NEVER EVER forget those that stand shoulder to shoulder with me on the Mantis front! Everything I make and do and post is for people like YOU Tefani Lin! Never forget that!! :D
That crab put up a fight
+JJDUDE Boom They aren't push overs! Keeps the mantis stimulated and energetic and receptive!
JJDUDE Boom Crab got in a pinch or two.
I like the way you made it so he can climb on the wall.
This looks just like when me and my father is arguing... doesn't matter how thick my armour is...
Awesome video! I really like that setup!

Crabs first thought “I’ve got a new home”, then... “hey what is this.”?
I love how aggressive they are, I want one

Wow I'd love one as a pet
How did you do that background? is it spray foam and PVC?
How does it sound like when the mantis shrimp punches? Is it louder (different in any way) than what we can hear through the microphone?
+Gideon Okun It is much louder, I am getting a Hydrophone to capture the in tank sound of what you will hear with the 'Phase 2" videos soon to come and MUCH higher quality to! I'm talking TV/Cinema level quality!

where on earth do you get these shrimp? might be interested
+Auzome1 From the sea!!!! =]
But seriously ask any of your local marine aquarium stores.
+Mantisman™ thank you! are they pretty hard to care for? and what is their lifespan?
How did you make that wall on the side of the tank with the holes in it?
with great patience :)
I hate that shrimp, thinks he is so cool because he has 2 strong nuts hanging out.
I would do the same if society didn't frown on that 😔
AproLogic XD two strong nuts :) turn down for what:3
where did u get the crabs?
How big of a tank do you have? And I like how it has a burrow in the wall, creative
You can run but you can't hide!

Id love to see something kick a mantis, shrimps aggressive ass. Just to see its reaction. They are relentless.
Go to a Seafood market in Asia.
I like how all these lames make out it's a battle putting in a crab 5 times smallers.
Wow I didn't know their tails have spikes.
0:38 *oh shrimp my cover is blown!*
Il se défend bien le crabe, l'a pris quelques coups la mante.
dark souls 4 first boss battle
Why my mantis shrimp not so aggressive?
Holy crap
Hey could u check out one of my vids? It's about the type of mantis I'm getting should I remove a LR or two? And should I add a PVC pipe thx dude
Me = mr. crap
My gf = mantis shrimp
Does the shrimp eat the crab or is it more of a territorial issue with the shrimp.
Shrimp eats crab.
It' like watching a horror movie. I ain't exactly a vegetarian, but I feel bad for the crab. Locked in a small glass tank with that thing that comes out of the hole in the wall.... to eat you?
Crab lost has claw at one point lol

Badass shrimp

Tomnc krl kk
Is megatron pregnant
What makes you think that ?
No Megatron is not pregnant, it's the only Chiragra I have and i have had it for a good few years now...
it may be hard to feed...
next time ,please put octopus same size with shrimp.
I did this once but the people didn't like seeing an octopus get beaten up...
I am looking octopus vs mantis shrimp
Isn't there a risk if you feed them something with claws? Maybe I'm just paranoid but if I had one I'd feel the need to take pincers off its food before feeding.
Or is this hardly a concern?
+TheTriforcebearer nope, mantis shrimp don't fuck around
Giant crab
0:36 camo tactic : FAILED.
What if he misses and smacks the glass? :D
+450asg as far as I'm aware with mantis shrimp the tanks can actually crack or shatter, those things are fucking crazy
Max Kordon Yeah completely insane haha
+450asg idk why my shrimp shattered my nano cube but i was just playing Battlefield when it happened so I was able to save my peacock shrimp... Learned that its worth spending money on a custom half inch thick glass aquarium if i was gonna get these little guys

How bout something with bigger claws? All I see is these mantisshrimp whoopin crustaceans smaller than it... that's not a badass ... a badass whoops opponents larger than it.. ex: Mike Tyson, Bruce Lee, sugar ray Leonard,
This is actaully pretty screwed up. You are throwing a live crab into a death trap, no escape.
Don't dismiss the crab :) Stomatopods are not immortal they aren't invincible and I/they have certainly had their share of scares and close calls....it's a risk to the Stomatopod as much as it is to the crab.

Mantisman May I ask how a crab stands any chance towards Megatron?
greenhousestan Thicker armour, and those claws can do quite a lot of damage (why stomatopods always aim for the claws)
Tefani Lin I love your support I love anyones support that stands beside me and I promise in time it will be rewarded.... :D I will NEVER EVER forget those that stand shoulder to shoulder with me on the Mantis front!

Mantisman The grab has thicker armor? my ass. The mantis just fuckin hulk smashes the shit outta the crab
poor crab!!
Aquarum water is gross, needs cleaning.
