nice! do you think a military shotgun its usefull on CQB on the combat team? can you give some more details like how was tactical used, how much ammo load do you carry, what pouches you used for them, what the ammo types, did you used with heat shield or not, the bayonet, what sights ghost rings or bead

Good to know. I bought a 590 totally on impulse. It was my first firearm I ever owned. Mine came with adjustable rear sight and raised fluorescent orange foresight.

Ya just gotta love that Ghost Ring sight. You’ve got a 590 SP there neighbor and in my opinion the most durable, dependable pump action for the money. The only shotgun to pass the military’s 3000 round torture test. I guess Mossberg knows how to make a pump gun.

@La-Z-Bear Exactly, any fool can pull a trigger, but that same fool can pull the trigger when the gun shouldn't be shot. I'd rather shoot with someone who isn't very accurate but has good trigger discipline, versus John Wick himself with terrible trigger discipline.

Mossberg 590A1, in my opinion the best pump action shotgun ever produced. Definitely a better choice than it's competition.
i think the 870 wingmaster i shoot is smoother and better put together than any Mossberg I've seen. i must say though the wingmaster has better craftsmanship then other 870 shotguns. if ur Mossberg dosnt drop shells it will do anything u need at a good price but the 870 feels tighter and smoother.
***** the price on the wingmaster is expensive but used it is the same as the Mossberg new and mine had less than 100 shells put threw it so it was new. I like the push button safety but i see y people like the thumb safety. now i had this gun for a bit i feel that it was worth every $ because it is so smooth. U can't go wrong with either gun they bouth will go threw hell and keep going.
I agree after owning it and the competitors.
I swirled around what choices to make for a 3-gun SHTF arsenal for myself. I settled n the CZ 75 SP-01 for a pistol and 590A1 for a shotgun. no real internal debate for either of them once I researched them enough. They just seem that good. The rifle is another story. I'm kind of in between a PTR-91, vz58, or perhaps in the semi-distant future (3-5 years), an 805 BREN S1 (assuming they're CA legal) once they drop in price.
I have Mossberg and Remington. And I would agree... But my Mossberg started having light primer strikes 5 days after I got it, with multiple brands of shells. I shot about 200 rounds through it... Then it would shoot about half the time. So it's back at the factory.
I own a 590 and am now in the market for an aluminum trash can.

A Hickok45 shotgun video is always a treat.
It was great getting to meet and greet in Louisville this weekend. It is refreshing to chat with a 'celebrity' who is simply a down to earth nice guy. To those who have not had the distinct pleasure - YES the man IS that tall and yes, he is exactly the same off camera as on. He treated everyone, young and old, with generosity and patience and made all feel welcome - I was impressed and am proud to be one of the two million.
The heavy barrel was a US Navy/ USMC requirement... They tend to have had problems with barrel dents with thin shotgun barrels in ship hatchway accidents... Whacking into a metal ship with sharp edges will do that.

klscott23 I happen to have the USN configuration 18” 6 shot HB M590A1 as my main scattergun.... an ol trusted friend.
Mag tubes were thickened too. Banging on bulkheads is why. I have the Gemtech G5 suppressor for 556 Is only one rated for milspec test and has USN part ID number on it.

This is why I saved some money and went with the plain ol’ 590. I don’t have many steel bulkheads at my house

590 was the first weapon I bought at a store with my own money, actually my sister had to buy it because i was only about 13. Still love as it stands ready by the door 20 years later.
Bought this gun with the ghost ring sights pretty much right after seeing this video. 5 years, and thousands of rounds later, it's still ine of my favorite guns to shoot and my go to home defense gun.
just got mine and i love it! Easily one of the best shotguns out there.

@@squidy4082 the 590 is the same finish as the 88. You only get the parkerizing on the 590a1. My 590 is blued and has some scratches and such but who cares. Light coat of oil here and there and she’ll be fine

Love Mossbergs. I have a Maverick 88 with two barrels and my father in law has the 590 model with the heat shield. Brother in law has the A1. These are the AK-47 of shotguns.

Thank you. The 590 was my first gun about 7 years ago. I should have bought a 500 with the interchanging barrels to begin with, but they are both the best guns I have ever shot or bought.
Love my 590! Bought mine a few years ago, came parkerized and with the heat shield!

I don’t like Mossbergs. I love em. I got like 12 of em. From 10” barrel to Shockwaves to 590’s and an 835. Every one’s a gem. Magpul furniture really enhances the ergonomics and improves the look. I bought a 590M and had the barrel externally threaded to accept the KSG adapter for the Silencerco Salvo 12 and it is so much fun. With Magpul stock and forearm and an Eotech 512 using subsonic shells it’s hearing safe and reduced recoil it’s well balanced and fun on a bun. We named it Mr.Sluggo! 😮
I’m currently building one. Tax stamp submitted. It’s a Shockwave. It’s currently at Brileys getting ghost ring sights installed. Have a Knoxx stock and a Surefire forearm light waiting for it.

I bought one for fun. I have run multiple firearm platforms, but I don't have much experience with pump shotguns. Got an 18.5 inch retrograde.

I went with the 590 Mariner Persuader for home defense. I love it.
What's weird is the info-sheet that came with it says it has the heavy wall barrel and I thought that was only for the 590A1 but that is what it said.

I bought a 590, after your first 590 A1 video. Couldn't find an A1 locally, but found the regular 590. Mine has a heat shield on top of the barrel, with a front bead sight. I believe it has what they consider a matte blued finish.
Picked up a Mossberg 500 with my grandfather a few weeks ago. I got to shooting it this weekend and must've put around 100 shots through it in a mix of 2 and 3/4 and 3 inch buckshot 00 and 000 and some 1 and a quarter ounce slugs. Never had any problems and the barrel never got hot. Mossberg makes some great shotguns.
I have the 590 version with pistol grip, collapsible stock and heat shield... more maneuverable down halls and around doors. Very happy with it. Yes, the safety is very stiff.
You just can't beat the dual action bars or the ergonomic safety on these guns!! Extremely user friendly!!

I really like my 590, the reason I picked it over the 870 was not the weight difference in fact I didn't notice the weight difference . I bought the 590 because i didn't have to release my grip to charge the first round. I felt in case of quick reaction it was one less move I had to remember. Nice video .

A few things that I like about the Mossberg.
1. The shell lifter is out of the way when loading. You can drop a round in the loading port and it doesn't get kicked out. Then it's just a gentle push into the magazine.
2. When reloading, nothing is trying to get a grip on my gloves.
3. When wearing gloves, the safety is much easier to operate than trying to move a button.
I fought my Remington for years until I discovered a Mossberg.
5 years later. Hickok45 thank you for this review of the Mossberg 590. My 1999 production 590SP is parkerized with ghost ring sights. I’ve owned this one for several years and have a couple thousand rounds of various ammo through it. Never a hiccup. I’ve made upgrades to it along the way. Replacing the polymer safety switch and trigger assembly with metal units and the follower with a polished red stainless steel GG&G unit along with a Wolff extra power magazine tube spring. A Magpul buttstock replaced the factory unit as I’ve rather short arms. A railed fore end a a 300 lumen Streamlight pretty much complete all that. I’d trust this 590 anywhere.
Where did you find an aftermarket metal trigger housing? I'd like to pick a few of those up for my shockwaves . Thanks.

The old 870's and more especialy the old 870P's are still my favorites. Having said that, I've put a lot of ammo through the 590A1 and it's a good shotgun! If the 590A1 would get as slick as a Wingmaster from the 50's, or 60's it would be a tough choice. Kind of like a old Smith that is still in time and slick as glass through the double action stroke.

I just picked one up today, used, at my local shop. It has a heat sheild, which looks cool I guess, but what really got me to buy it is the Insight L3 fore end light. Makes for a nice home/yard defense gun.

I just got a 590 brand new for $250. The guy bought it and never shot it. Can't wait to break it in. Always loved the mossberg 500/590 as a beater gun. Use an 870 TB for trap though...... I like the 870 and 590 pretty much equally.

We have this same gun at home but never shot it before, so this was interesting to watch.
i bought a used mossberg 500 with a short barrel. quite a lot of these shotguns were brought to russia in the 1990s. satisfied with the purchase. everything is in its place and nothing superfluous. i'm already so used to it that i feel it as a part of my body. disassembling and assembling is simple, cleaning is easy. many spare parts can be ordered from a turner. except for the barrel, bolt and receiver (by law). an excellent product for close combat

2 other advantages to the A-1 barrel I feel would be less recoil and it would stay cooler to the touch when firing lots of rounds through it.

I recently bought the 500 with heat shield and ghost ring sights. Great shotgun but it tends to strike the primers very lightly, almost at random times. I've called Mossberg and they said they'll fix it for free!
