So I saw Banshees last week. I was soooo looking forward to it. Didn't know anything about it except the cast and director and I was... just not blown away. I will probably watch it again in 5 years thinking "oh yeah, it won some awards 5 years ago". When I saw Everything Everywhere I also didn't know anything about it except some multiverse buzz and I was.... completely blown away and I've seen it multiple times after that. The humor, the (melo)drama, the performances, the different styles of directing, the original story, it was just everything all at once. I am so disappointed that it's not sweeping all the awards.... It will still have a special place in my heart though. I just wish everyone would see the film like I saw how special this film was.
I agree. Watched Banshees recently, and I thought it was just okay..None of the characters intrigued me and the storyline felt pointless with the entire central conflict remaining unresolved and avoidable. I felt no investment or attachment to it. EEAAO on the other hand, was the greatest cinematic experience I've ever had. Truly blown away after leaving the theater.

I'm feeling more and more like "EEAAO" and "Banshees" split Screenplay and Director. But, even if the Oscars roll out a big night for "EEAAO" and give it the three big awards of the night (among others), I still think Kerry Condon could be this year's Tilda Swinton - her film's single win who bests the competition purely off the love so many have for her film.
Not really. Comedy actors aren't usually as recognized as the drama category. Just look at 2019, 2020 and 2021, none of the Comedy actresses were nominated for the Oscar, not even the winners Awkwafina, Pike and Zegler.
Besides, no way Yeoh beats Blanchett, Coleman, Davis and Ana De Armas. I'd even say she's way behind Manville or Robbie. But anyways, these awards are partially popularity contests, as seen by her win yesterday.
Argentina 1985 is for me one of the best movies overall, and I can't see as Oscar bait at all, maybe you guys are culturally very far from the narrative core which is understandable, and for me the main reason it won't translate to a Oscar win per example. My theory is considering the HFPA is an organization with members from all around the globe and in theory now more diverse, all members from Latin America or with a big history background (they are from the press so we can assume there's many) supported Argentina 1985, and there was no consensus between the other members over other option. At the end I'm very glad Argentina 1985 won, is a very historically accurate and emotional, well acted and directed movie, it's the whole package, but unfortunately there's no way it will get more than a nomination for International at the Oscars, which makes the race very very interesting
I don’t think John Williams would’ve won score here even if by some miracle he wins oscar. The main thing is he didn’t get nominated for bafta plus this = not gonna happen unless critics upset. In 1994 John William’s score for Schindlers List lost to some random score from Heaven & Earth in Golden Globes but still won Oscar.
I did not see the Golden Globes but when I saw The Fabelmans won Drama, it made me realize that I was right this whole time that it's going to win Best Picture and now that Everything Everywhere All At Once did not win Musical or Comedy it made me realize I'm not going to be disappointed whatsoever. (I can't believe Angela Bassett won she might win the Oscar for Supporting Actress. Wow!)

It does have a bit of that Oscar-baitiness to it, but it's got a great lead performance, good direction, very nice aesthetically, solid script with some nice subtleties to it, really good movie imo. I do need to catch up on the other foreign language entries though, can't compare it to the other nominees yet

The first year where Golden Globes actually are normal and predictable and almost every frontrunner won. I hope BAFTA gives us some craziness!
BAFTA already gave some craziness by excluding Spielberg, Cameron and their movies in a lot of top line categories.
“and it’s gonna win best foreign film” famous last words
guillermo del toro has that oscar in his hands already.
Was waiting for this video
my first ever perfect golden globes. got every category. this was also the one year i didnt bet.
Felice per Cate, delusa per Todd Field, meritava più considerazione, speriamo per lui qualche "piccolo premio" tra qualche settimana!😜😜
oddio un’italiana che li segue che bello ahahaha
Lol guys I’m so excited for your SAG Nom reactions……
Both of those movie will not win oscars best picture. It will be the fabelmans because fits more the oscars standards
It's not that I hate Fablemans, it's just that Fablemans seems like the generic Oscar comfort food made specifically for collecting oscars
Just love you guys 😂❤
I was on Tess’s side for Kerry Condon but we were wrong 😢
don’t ignore argentina 1985. there is a scene that is very resonate today.
She’s the most underrated of the Supporting Actress category but Stephanie Hsu gave the best most nuanced performance in that category. She’s young and isn’t as well known so doesn’t have the story of decades in the industry like some of the others but she definitely deserves a win.
These reactions are going to be wild.
So you're complaining a movie won that you didn't see? (Argentina 1985) maybe watch it so you can see why it won.
be grateful to messi, cuz just for him we know that argentine exist.
I don’t like the film but it’s on Amazon so very easy to access. They should have watched it since it was nominated.
this two guys are super fans of cinema and they follow this shows since a while. the fact that they have zero interest in argentia 1985 represents all of us.
@@DA-wg5cz why should we be grateful for ignorants like you know us? Just because you cant point in a map any country except yours doesn't mean everyone does...
Maybe you should watch RRR and all Quiet, also I have seen Argentina 1985 but when you compare them to RRR and all Quiet, it lacks behind.
We need a RRR review
hahaha the reaction to Angela Bassett winning is hilarious - love it!!
RRR, All Quiet On The Western Front or Decision To Leave didn't win best foreign language film but this Argentina 1985
first of all how could you say that Argentina 1985 was a surprise when you didnt even watch de movie. And its not like The Chicago 7 cause although the movie is about a court case. Its also about the darkest time in Argentina history, and something that is quite engrave in our hearths and skin to this day almost 40 years later. To me the race was against "All quiet in the wester front" and we beat them, i dont know if the recent events that put Argentina in the front of every paper in the world help but i wont say that didnt help
My big surprise was your reaction to Argentina 1985. I love movies, but History too. And no, this movie is not the Chicago 7. Try reading subtitles. We outside the US have been doing this all our lives. Hugs from Brazil and I agree with you many times. That is the reason I am so surprised about your reaction to Argentina 1985.
Totally agree. Young American social media critics know nothing and praise only snobbish films. "Argentina 1985" has all the ingredients for Oscar bait but that comparison is stupid. It's "like "The imitation game", pleaseee! those guys should try to education themselves on the history of their continent
Why is it that every time an ok movie from South America isn't completely embraced by Americans, the fans come out of the woodwork to resort to petty insults? Argentina, 1985 is perfectly fine and nothing more, and to tell a channel where they've reviewed international films many times over to "try reading subtitles" is pointlessly passive aggressive and, more importantly, flat-out wrong.
@@thefilmseeker Are you sure I am the one being aggressive? To enjoy a movie you have at least to watch it and they didn't. I watched it for the second time this morning: it is.brilliant: funny, tragic and relevant. And specially Brazilians and US-Citizens with "our" Bolsonaros and Trumps should reflect about this movie.
@@monicamarraccini9591 Yes, the "try reading subtitles" jab is absolutely unnecessary and pointlessly passive aggressive. I watched it as well... It's good. 4th-best in the running.
@@thefilmseeker you smell a little like xenophobia my dude.. They're ignorant because THEY DIDN'T EVEN WATCH THE FILM SO HOW THE HELL ARE THEY SAYING ALL THAT STUFF ABOUT IT, MAKE IT MAKE SENSE LMAOOO
I already know I'll be watching this 10 times in a row
you both look like thr actor from The Bear 😂
I love you guys but you really need to watch Argentina 1985 hahaha
Disrespecting Argentina, 1985 and yet you guys “didn’t watch it”. It’s not “rando” and a “crowd pleaser”. It’s really well done
Watch Argentina 1985 and THEN make a good opinion.
0:47
Very fitting since he sweeps in the movie too.
GG on getting this turned around so quickly
Definitely Argentina deserved it !!! That was my pick :D
This video was uploaded between 3:00 AM and 4:00 AM on the East Coast of the U.S. Damn, we're all up late!
We need a RRR review , so people can know , how much better it is than 1985
We all learned a valuable lesson here: "IF THE HORIZON IS IN THE MIDDLE, THEN ITS NOT INTERESTING!"
Argentina World Cup Champions and Golden Globe winner 🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷
Argentina 1985 is Oscar-worthy.
and Brendan Fraser over Austin Butler.. both phenomenal performances but Fraser is higher performance then Butler next
How so? Butler had to learn how to sing, dance and speak like elvis plus wear a fat suit, I think both performance are equal
I told u guys Spielberg ain't going down
I think you guys aren't giving Argentina 1985 the credit it is due, you haven't even finished it haha. You think Argentinians decided to make that painful movie about grief and cruelty just to win awards when you say this is Argentina's "bait" for oscars
They're uneducated, what would you expect? It's a trace of their generation
Can Non English language Award be considered a snub to AQOWF or RRR?
Massive snub for 3 top films.
Snubbed for
All Quiet
RRR
Decision to Leave
Like what fuckk they are doing choosing Argentina 1985
@@fanwos This is so awful FUUUUCK
@@fanwos i am whit you, who da fck saw argentine 1985. i think some critics want to please and take some fame from the country that just is know for messi.
RRR still has chance at nominations in Best Film, Best director and best song category.
Oscar allows foreign films in Best film and best director Category.
Golden globes does not allow. other wise RRR has a good chance for nominations in these categories.
Thanks, OE! Thanks, BB! Thanks, kitty cat! 🏆 The passion in this reaction is most delectable. #TheOscarExpert #GoldenGlobeWinners #2023GoldenGlobes
I'm Argentinian, but I got a little sad that RRR didn't win for foreign language movie, I want that Oscar buzz that it deserves
So basically Best Actress Oscar is either Cate Blanchett or Michelle Yeoh huh? That's interesting
Not really. Comedy actors aren't usually as recognized as the drama category. Just look at 2019, 2020 and 2021, none of the Comedy actresses were nominated for the Oscar, not even the winners Awkwafina, Pike and Zegler.
@@RCC_1 didn’t Olivia Colman won in comedy category for the favorite ? 💀
Besides, no way Yeoh beats Blanchett, Coleman, Davis and Ana De Armas. I'd even say she's way behind Manville or Robbie.
But anyways, these awards are partially popularity contests, as seen by her win yesterday.
And both roles were originally written for male protagonists. That’s veeery interesting.
@@RCC_1 God, what a bad take. 💀
Banshees made me so sad, it’s rather funny to see it win as a Comedy
It is NOT COMEDY
Dramedy
Same.
I still dont see Angela winning Oscar for marvel role..i know if this ever happen it can only with her, but i wont predict her really
Everything Everywhere didn’t sweep?! * me acting surprised *
I listened to the cat predict Kerry Condon and was met with disappointment
I got 10/14
Same
I don’t think John Williams would’ve won score here even if by some miracle he wins oscar. The main thing is he didn’t get nominated for bafta plus this = not gonna happen unless critics upset. In 1994 John William’s score for Schindlers List lost to some random score from Heaven & Earth in Golden Globes but still won Oscar.
I am bummed that a lot of the nominees that I want to see get nominated this year actually didn’t happen
I like Angela Bassett over Kerry Condon but my choice would honestly be Stephanie Hsu
Jesus that was a fast edit
I did not see the Golden Globes but when I saw The Fabelmans won Drama, it made me realize that I was right this whole time that it's going to win Best Picture and now that Everything Everywhere All At Once did not win Musical or Comedy it made me realize I'm not going to be disappointed whatsoever. (I can't believe Angela Bassett won she might win the Oscar for Supporting Actress. Wow!)
The GG doesnt have the same weight as they used to. The SAG is a better predictor but even that isnt a guarantee
I just want to defend Argentina 1985. It does have a bit of that Oscar-baitiness to it, but it's got a great lead performance, good direction, very nice aesthetically, solid script with some nice subtleties to it, really good movie imo. I do need to catch up on the other foreign language entries though, can't compare it to the other nominees yet
Yes I have seen Argentina 1985 it is great, but when you see RRR and all Quiet, you will it lacks behind
And trust do watch RRR
@None It's on my list, hopefully Friday
I saw three films out of the five.
My top list is:
1. Argentina 1985
2. Decision to Leave
3. RRR
Probably RRR would have been 5 if I had watched all contenders.
- Angela Basset is getting an Oscar nomination
- Naatu Naatu is winning Oscar
RRR still has chance at nominations in Best Film, Best director and best song category.
Oscar allows foreign films in Best film and best director Category.
Golden globes does not allow. other wise RRR has a good chance for nominations in these categories at Golden Globes.
RRR 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
