I was born in Honolulu in 1950. Our address in those days was Rural Koolaupoko. Kind of the back side of Kailua. We lived on Kuaaina Way. That was before the canal that drained that area. It flooded one time. Mahalo for sharing.
Wow, that was cool. I moved to HI late Summer '59, when I was about 6 months old, with my parents - my Dad was working for the airforce. We lived there about 2 years. My Mom has photos, but not movie footage (we didn't get a Super 8mm camera till I was 4). Thanks for the share.
Our family is from Haleiwa, I keep looking for videos from this period in Haleiwa, but can't find any. Not too many people took pictures back then because we didn't think things would ever change. Back then, the world just left us alone.
You just descend from Johnny Almeida? correct me if I'm wrong... I wish I had known earlier, I would have used Johnny's music to back up the video. Or some "Hawaii Calls" solo work. Auntie Ella and Uncle John were my favorite people. Their daughter, Pua, lives in San Jose now.

That was just off of Oneawa Street. I bet you spent a lot of time as a kid fishing for tilapia once they built the canal, eh?
Wow, brings back memories. I was born 1955 and lived in Kailua until 1976. Lived on Wanaao Rd on the canal. Miss my home, thanks for posting!
We were in Kailua, Oahu. In 61' watched the 'Hawaii Calls' radio program and show at the Moana hotel under the banyan tree. Oh what a sweet memory!
Pre Reef Runway 8R...@1:23 one can see its absence. Visible is 4L and 4R.

Nice this is awesome footage.
Having a new car in your garage must've been a fairly expensive proposition in Hawaii in 1959.

Todd White I remember going to movies at the Haleiwa Theater... but, sorry, I have no movies of the town at that time. I wish I did.
The people at the end of the video are my relatives. Their final home was next to their beloved Star Of The Sea Church and School.
