And you gotta love the spooky music 'its like a ghost movie u could say as everyone heir is passed, sorry thats just wat came to mind, great upload eh. cheers
I agree the opening shot is of Kings Cross fire station in Sydney; however every landscape after that is of Melbourne, Collins St , Elizabeth St and Swanston St. Note in particular the trams (not the Sydney design), 1:23 the Flinders St Station clock , 1:15 is 82 Collins St cnr of Swanston st, and 1:50 the Melbourne Manchester Unity building, 2:44 is the Bank of Australasia cnr Collins and Queen Sts - the tree is still there but a lot bigger, 3:03 is definitely The Australian Club 110 Williams St Melbourne, all of which are still standing.
Sorry Robin Wookey More like 1956 to 1963 those Trams replaced the "toast rack" trams years after even the early 50's and those Cars --oh boy I Bought a NEW Chrysler Royal like one I saw in your film in 1960
From 01:07 it becomes scenes from Melbourne. Sydney didn't have W-class trams.
interesting video. There are scenes of trams both in Sydney and Melbourne included here.

Thanks for that correction! These were old films taken by my father before I was born . . .
Looks like The Australian Club in William Street at 3:06 and yes the fire station at top of (the other) William Street at 0:25
1959 FC HOLDEN at 1:35 ish.
Wow. My Mum and Dad could be in these shots. But some of the cars look a bit newer than 45.
Yes some are from the mid-50s
opening shot looks like the fire station at Kings Cross
Once a great city and great country.
Some of these are from at least the mid-1950s.
Ford Zephyr and FC Holden puts date much later
Some scenes are definitely 50s.
Much of this is much later than the 1940s
Film looks like 1960 when you see some of the british cars

Some parts of film clip early to mid fifties
1:44 is sixties Zephyr.
Exsctky
Iff thats from the war time the vehicles all had gas producers and headlight dimmers more like post war onwards
Whata time to be alive
Imagine putting those people to sleep and waking them up now. How would they see present day Sydney
They would think we were absolutely insane to rip out the Trams and let the City descend into awful car dependency and sprawl for sure.
They'd reach for their bayonets and rifles coz they would "KNOW" we're being invaded
NO NO NO these a scenes from the late 1950's to round about 1963 NOT 40's ---OK
Mostly Melbourne.
1959 FC HOLDEN at 1:35 ish.
