Same here, mine was a 1971 though, handed down to me by my grandmother. It was a love/hate with that car. I loved my grandma but she was cheap. She special ordered that car in white with a black painted top and black vinyl bench interior, with no power brakes, no air conditioning, no power windows, an AM radio, and the 350 2bbl. And when she retired, she moved to the Phoenix area of Arizona. 115 degrees in the summer with no A/C and black top and black vinyl interior was punishing! I do have some fond memories though of giving girls rides home in high school. They'd sit on that hot seat and bounce right into my lap after getting a scaling from that black vinyl. LOL!
My next door neighbor had a 63 Skylark he kept in pristine condition!!! In later years people would often stop by & ask if he wanted to sell it. Great video of the Buick Skylark guys!!! 👍👍🙂
My second car was a 1970 skylark custom 2dr hardtop. 350 4 barrel, auto, AC. It was a nice powerful car to drive. It did well towing a boat, with plenty of room and good storage.
Loved this video . I had a 1981 Skylark Limited 2 door coupe and a 1993 Skylark . I also remember my neighbor had a '53 Skylark that he would occasionally drive in parades . I would like to see Buick once again revive this nameplate and make cars again instead of just SUVs
@ttop64 I purchased a 81 skylark coupe for cheap a couple months ago! It’s leaking transmission fluid from one end of the lines connected to the radiator. On the other side it started smoking. I’m in search on new lines for the Iron Duke. Or even a new radiator, No luck yet
Back in 2018 I was helping my Aunt move and I noticed a car that resembled a Chevelle sitting in her backyard. I asked her what was up with it and she said it didn't run, but if I could tow it out of there, she would give it to me for free. I agreed and towed it back to my place. Turned out it was a 72 Skylark with a 350, and it had been sitting there since the early 2000s when it was last registered. Chucked a battery in it, rebuilt the carb, drained the old gas, replaced the tires and fluids, and it's still running great to this day. For how old it is, it's the most dependable car I've had.
My first car was a 73 Buick Skylark with a 350. I bought it while in high school in 79, paid $600 cash. I put a Holley 780 double pumper on it, plus a Melling cam shaft, hooker headers, and NOS. Boy was that a fast car. I had so much fun in that car. I sold it and bought a fuel efficient Toyota when I went to college in 1981.
I remember the old Buick that used to sit out in front of the second hand shop. The people who drove the car ran this little shop on the corner at main Street and something for decades and decades and decades. So if I wanted to cross the street I had to walk in front of this monstrous grill that was going to eat me. I was really young and that car was pretty old. It was lime green with all that shine package Chrome and stainless. I believe to this day that it was a 1950s model. I'm thinking 1950 itself but it was definitely of that vintage. So what scared them blank out of me as a kid 😲 now interests me because I find them absolutely stunning and away they were styled.
both of my late maternal grandparents had Buick Skylarks at different times grandpa had a 1965 Skylark GS Convertible in blue and grandma had a used 1984 Skylark sedan in dark royal blue pearl/grey cloth interior for about 2 years when I was very young after having a used 1981 Cadillac Coupe Deville then she had a dark red pearl 1990 Toyota Camry for 14 years

@@ThisOldCarChannel Don't be afraid to re-do older videos! I find I don't spend much time scrolling through old videos on channels and RUclips doesn't generally recommend them, so to get the popular car's content out you might need to just do it again.
The 1964 through 1969 model years included cheaper Special and Special Deluxe models priced below the Skylark. Those nameplates were discontinued for the 1970 model year...when all mid-size Buick models used the name Skylark.
The 1970 GSX is my dream car, I'll take mine in Apollo White with the 4spd please! My first car was a hand-me-down 1971 Buick Skylark coupe, it got so much attention because none of my peers knew what it was, it was shaped like a Chevelle but it was a Buick! I loved the way that car looked, especially from the front with the way the grille recessed back instead of being flush, it just looked aggressive and that tall rear bumper that wrapped around the bottom side of the car. I've thought about looking for a clean 70 Skylark or GS and making it into a GSX clone. Last I looked a real GSX was $125k, that even if I could afford to buy I'd be terrified to drive on the roads with all those people playing on their phones. But hey, did I miss where you touched on the GSX? I don't remember seeing one or hearing it mentioned in this video. Nobody would remember the Skylark a second look if it weren't for the GS and GSX Stage cars.
Very nice, guys. I really liked the mid '60 thru mid '70s versions. A guy i knew bought a '64 in the mid '70s which he drove for a few years until it was wrecked. He replaced it with a '72 and after a few years, it got wrecked, too unfortunately. He always had a Buick but later these were full sized models,,,,maybe he felt safer.
Buicks have always been very comfortable cars. I've also owned two 79 LeSabres, one coupe and one sedan. Both had the Pontiac 301V8 in them. Very comfortable velour seats and smooth ride compared to today's cars. They floated over bumps like the Cadillacs of the day.
rode to grade school in new 67 skylark custom ht. have a spot for them and the 67 sportwagon cool to have both In the garage in say 1967 brand new custom home
I had a '70 Skylark, which really resembled the Chevy Nova at the time. It absolutely could not keep a transmission in it. I went through 3 before I junked it.
The General Motors N-body was introduced in late 1984 for the 1985 model year. Initially, it was offered as the Pontiac Grand Am, Oldsmobile Calais and Buick Somerset (Skylark) coupes. The 4-door sedans came later. Those cars were absolute junk...my neighbor many years ago had one with peeling paint that was coming off in shards.
Those quad cam 4 cylinders were notorious for overheating and generally breaking down at low mileage. A far cry from the original Skylarks. A shame, really.
Extremely few in line 6. All I have seen got 350 w/ automatic in second gen. 2nd gen G.S. was not titled as a Skylark. Guy is just reading from specs and is not a Buick expert.

The early 70's Buicks with the Ram Air hood were the best looking ones. The Gran Sport line were the torque monsters with the big V-8's!

This is when Buicks we're truly cool before they became a Chinese brand.
The 80's was the last good decade. But at the same time, the beginning of the end of good cars. Modern vehicles are disposable appliances.

It wasn't a "quad cam" 4-cylinder. It was a DOHC (dual overhead cam) with four valves per cylinder named "Quad-4".
