    Ed, Kaiser really deserves it's own episode. Between the full size cars, the Henry J and the Sears (the department store) cars along with his sports cars and owning Continental engines and even buying Willys his car company was wild.
    His company pretty much encompasses the American automobile world in the late forties and early fifties and how the big 3 just dominated.

    I remember reading that the Studebaker-Packard merger was like "two drunks trying to help each other across the street". Sadly, a pretty apt description.

    • @jeff7.629
      @jeff7.629 2 часа назад +4

      I've read the same thing. If I remember correctly, one or both of them fudged the numbers on their true value. Possibly one of the reasons why the merger with Nash and Hudson didn't happen.

  • @classicforreal
    @classicforreal Час назад +9

    Also Kaiser, Fraiser and Willys Overland would all join in on the mergers that would eventually make up AMC as well, they didn't totally disappear.

    I had a neighbor back in 1977 ( I was 10 years old) who owned a Studebaker Avanti. It was painted metallic gold, it look so futuristic to me, and to many others. The other fact is my story took place in Ste Foy, Quebec, far far away from the Big Three, let alone an obscure manufacturer. I taught It was an Imported Italian Luxury Sport Car. Great video as always, Sir, Thank You and Peace Out\!!

    People may not know Studebaker was a premier wagon maker in the 1800's. Among their products was the famous Conestoga Wagon.

    Look at that yellow and white nash compared to the special ambassador. They really thought the ambassador was bland? It could have given new life to Nash. I wonder how a merger of those 4 could have worked, each with their own price points and loyal customers.

    Good video reviews, Mr. Ed. I was thinking, since episode 69 (he, he) is near, you may use that number to give us your insights about some unexpected relations between car companies, like the brief encounter between Citroën and Masseratti (and tell us who do you think was each digit).

    Eliminate the center vertical grill on that Packard thumbnail and you basically have the 1963 Corvette front end . That was very advanced.

    Well, Easy Ed, isn't taste a dictator? Your affection for the Predictor is puzzling. It's the ugliest automobile I've ever seen; I would not allow my photo to be taken next to it, much less drive the monster down the road. Some cars are "cat" wagons; this baby would send them screaming for the ditches. Yikes, yuck, and what the hell is that?

    Ed, I love your videos, but the concept cars are getting old. They really don't matter, no normal person could buy them. I love when you talk about the evolution of certain interesting sectors of the car industry, like your three part series on communist cars. I would love it if you made a video about the evolution of the sports car, maybe do one of the parts on economy cars that were really sports cars underneath like the Corvair and the Mini.
