This work was only (re)discovered long after his death. It comes between symphonies 4 and 5 and is really his third symphony. What always gets me is the huge progression he made at this young age: in a few months his symphonic output went from a beginner's attempts to works that no adult composer would be ashamed of.

I've met and read about various geniuses. People often say, "They're the Mozart of (fill in the blank)". Geniuses seem to know they have a special talent but it's only at the end of their career that they can look back yet it's still hard for them to understand with any accuracy how gifted and far above others they were. Mozart was not allowed the opportunity to look back on his career but the pinnacle of music history as it is now recorded belongs to him. I just hope he somehow knows the world still listens to his arrangements.

@@0U8123MTA3 can you imagine what he would have composed if he lived even just simply to 45? 10 more years? and that would still have been pretty young. now imagine if he lived as long as bach to 70-80 ish . i think that probably 75 percent of all classical music played would be his

@@Johnadams20760I truly believe that Mozart and Beethoven would have been able to work together to break music faster than the canon timeline.

Mozart wrote this symphony when he was nine years old. If that doesn't make you feel inadequate, then I don't know what will.

@@paulrobinson5456 I agree. I think his Apollo Y Hyachinthus is the best. So effervacious and carefree - that is how Mozart really was.

This symphony was discovered in 1981, a relatively modern find.
