I've been watching dovetail cutter videos all day, learning how to make one for myself, matty you explained it better than anyone, if you weren't half way around the world I've got a extra surface grinder I'd donate to you, great learning channel.
Great Job Matty. I like the way you found the centre for the tool bit fixing hole, saves a lot of measuring. Looking forward to its first job video. Tony
That v-block came out very well, and nothing wrong with the dovetail cutter, either! I splurged on a set of Randy's cutters a while back, burnt up my hobby budget at that point for a while, but he was helping Mr. Pete out at the time so it was worth it. Hope you're doing well, trying to catch up on friends' work.
Hi Matty, I finally got around to making one of these today. I pretty much followed your video step by step except for the V-block, I used a square collet block in a vice set at 30 deg. Gave it a quick run in a bit of 1045 with around a 1000 RPM, light cuts and slow feed - Happy with the result. Thanks for showing us how you made yours.
Gday, great job, it’s nice to hear good feedback like this and know that the videos are helping others, thank you very much for letting me know, much appreciated, Cheers
Hello Matty, That looks like a bloody fine v block to me, I'd be proud of that! clamp as well! Thought that was blasted, lovely finish. Likewise with the dovetail cutter, look forward to seeing it use. All the best, Cliff
Hi Matty - beautiful V block and dovetail cutter! You'll have to go into production on the dovetail cutters! :) For V block hold-down ideas, check out ADE's workshop over in Wales. He's made some great vise hold downs which would suit your v block perfectly. Cheers, Craig
That V-block looks really great. Perfect finish. Actually i have to make a little V-block myself for an upcoming project. Don't forget to post a video to show the dovetail cutter in action.
Thanks for the kind words, I’m still waiting on the inserts to arrive, I think with the world a bit upside down atm the freight services are slowed down, there will be a update sometime soon I hope
Thanks Mate, there's me wondering how you were going to figure out how to locate the locking screw and your u come up with a simple solution which is always the best way. I'd be proud of that Vee block too, when I get my shaper going I'll be making some to your design.
Gday Tony, I bet you can’t wait to get your shaper, it’s the most used machine in my workshop and love it, I’m sure you want regret buying one, I’m really happy with the vee block and I wish I had made another vee block video, then again it’s another brilliant excuse to make another one, win win all round, thanks for watching, Cheers Matty
Well done. Looks good & the carbide cutter sits well. Would have liked to see how that carbide would have worked, even though you said it wasn't the right one.
Gday Ted, The insert is buggered, each corner is chipped quite badly, I’ve got a pack on order from China but haven’t arrived so I’ve ordered another pack which are in Australia so when they arrive I’ll do an update video, I’m still waiting on a pack of part off inserts as well which haven’t arrived, I think the corona virus has a bit to to what, thanks for watching, Cheers Matty
Matty I am a beginner turner I enjoy watching your videos very much I was turned on to you while watching Emma I wanted to thank you for what you do and your videos, also I would like to see if I could get some of your stickers if possible and thanks again
Gday David, thanks for the kind words, please send me an email (address in the description) and I’ll post some stickers out to you no worries at all, thanks for watching, Cheers Matty
I identify with the budget constraints, but sometimes that's half the fun. Look at what you've learnt, and what you've made - from scrap. Good work!
Great tool build Matty. Looking forward to seeing it in use.
Thanks for sharing.

Yeah I have a lot of work ahead. It's an Elliot 10 M but missing a lot. Have been in dialogue with Everett about it.
Beautiful little shaper, fun times ahead, soon you will have your own RUclips channel
The v block (6:20) looks very nice, would have enjoyed a video...
